Kobe Bryant’s Family Look To Trademark “Mamba” & “Mambacita” For Apparel: Report

There may be new official apparel coming from Kobe Bryant’s camp. The late sports icon tragically lost his life in a helicopter accident alongside his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven of their friends just over a year ago, and the Bryants’ loved ones have been working diligently to preserve their legacies. Widow Vanessa Bryant recently scored a victory in court against the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department after a judge ruled that the authorities could not shield the names of officers who reportedly passed around photos of the helicopter site. A report now states that the Bryant family has taken legal action once again, this time as it pertains to trademarking Kobe’s signature labels.

According to TMZ, on March 10, the attorney for Kobe Bryant LLC filed paperwork to trademark “Mamba and Mambacita,” and the outlet states it was done “with the intention of using it for clothing and shoes” as well as workout attire. It isn’t specified that the Bryants are looking to use the labels for an apparel brand and it’s suggested that they just may want to lock things down legally to keep others from profiting from the family’s devastating losses.

The Mamba brand is a staple for Kobe Bryant and Co., so it’s not surprising that the family would want to keep those related brands close to the chest. There have been plenty of companies who have turned a profit following Kobe and Gianna’s deaths by selling “Mamba” items sporting purple and gold Los Angeles Lakers colors. Meanwhile, sneakerheads are ready for new Mamba kicks.

Kanye West’s Yeezy And Gap’s Deal Is Reportedly Worth Nearly $1 Billion

Back in June 2020, Kanye West announced that his brand Yeezy landed a deal with Gap. While he didn’t share too many details about the joint venture, some specifics about the partnership were revealed by The New York Times. According to “a person familiar with the negotiations, who was not authorized to speak publicly,” the deal holds a term of ten years, with the option to renew after five. Almost nine months later, Yeezy and Gap’s partnership seems to be a successful endeavor.

Bloomberg reports that the collaboration between the two brands, which is set to be available in stores later this year, could be valued as high as $970 million. The publication also reported that Yeezy itself is valued between $3.2 billion to $4.7 billion, thanks to estimates from UBS Group. West also has $122 million in cash and stock, $110 million from his music catalog, and $1.7 billion in other assets, including Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS brand. If the reported numbers are correct, it would bump West’s net worth to somewhere between the range of $5.1 billion and $6.6 billion — a sharp increase from the $1.3 billion that Forbes reported last year.

In other news, last week collaborator Cyhi The Prynce said that West got back to work on his upcoming album Donda, which was originally set to arrive last summer.

Lil B Drops 90-Track Mixtape “Santa” Like It’s Christmas

There’s no shortage of Lil B music in the world. The enigmatic West Coast rapper has undoubtedly been one of the most influential rappers in the game, even if he doesn’t get his dues. His guerrilla marketing approach influenced others to tackle promoting their music in a similar matter, for better or for worse.

It’s only been a few months since the rapper released his last project, the 100-song effort, Hoop Life 2 that included an audio version of his lecture at the University Of Florida. This week, the rapper returned with his holiday-themed project, Santa. The project includes 90 songs in total with acapellas, instrumentals, and collaborations alongside Young L, Gata GED, Soulja Boy, OJ Da Juiceman, and more.

Check out the latest project from Lil B below.

Berner Links With Tunde & G.T. On “New Era”

Surprisingly, we’re three months into 2021 and we’ve yet to receive a single project from Berner. It’s only shocking because of how quickly he’s known to turn around projects. In the past two years, he’s released ten projects in total including collaborative projects with Curren$y, B-Real, and more.

It seems like Berner will be taking on a more international theme on his next project. The cannabis mogul teamed up with Tunde for their forthcoming collaborative project, They Land Better In Manchester. Today, the two rappers connected alongside G.T., who just dropped a new project, for their new collaboration, “New Era.” Tackling a psychedelic soul sample, the three rappers get on their big boss talk with laid back flows on this one.

Check out their new single below.

Bobby Brown Jr.’s Autopsy Receives “Security Hold” By LAPD: Report

Just days ahead of Thanksgiving, Bobby Brown suffered a tragic loss after it was shared that his son, Bobby Brown Jr., had passed away. There weren’t any immediate statements that suggested a cause of death, but a new report states that an investigation is being launched into the 28-year-old’s sudden passing.

According to The Sun, they received a statement from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner/Coroner that authorities are looking into Brown Jr.’s death. “A security hold was requested by the Los Angeles Police Department, the investigating law enforcement agency,” it reads. The outlet claims that last year, police reported that “there was no criminal investigation and no foul play was suspected,” and the autopsy had once been “deferred.”

Bobby Brown Jr. was found unresponsive at his Encino, California home when police responded to a call about a “medical emergency.” Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Karey Graves, a good friend of Brown Jr., reportedly told the Daily Mail that his late friend had a heart condition. Bobby Brown, who has endured several losses in recent years including the deaths of his ex-wife Whitney Houston and their daughter Bobbi Kristina, asked for the public to continue praying for his family.

Kim Kardashian Treating Kanye West’s Silent Treatment Like “Another Episode”

The power couple that was Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have called it quits. The socialite-turned-prison reform activist officially filed for divorce earlier this year after failed attempts to mend their relationship. It hasn’t necessarily been a smooth break up but it has been an inevitable one since his presidential rally last summer. Unfortunately, the split hasn’t necessarily been easy, either.

The couple share four children who remain their priority. With a prenup in place, Kim is seeking legal and joint custody of their children. Unfortunately, the pair haven’t been talking because Kanye cut her off. It was reported last month that Kanye changed all of his phone numbers and told her to contact him through his security detail. According to ET, they still aren’t speaking with each other which is alarming to Kim for the sake of their children.

“Kim sees this as Kanye having another episode and it is definitely concerning to her, especially in regard to their kids,” a source said. “Kim is just taking the time to focus on herself and her family and continuing to work and grow her business.”

In related news, it was reported that Kanye West’s net worth grew to $6.6B. The surge in his net worth now reportedly makes him the wealthiest Black man in American history.

N.O.R.E. Catches DJ Drama Off Guard: “Drake Smashed Your Girl”

The long-standing feud between Drake and Meek Mill has been squashed for a few years now, and both parties have collaborated since. However, the feud between the two rappers brought tension to the rap game, especially as people began picking sides. It was the leak of Quentin Miller’s reference tracks that set the Internet ablaze as the biggest rapper in the world was being questioned on his pen. Though it’s not necessarily brought up in larger discourse surrounding the beef, DJ Drama had a pretty significant role in the feud that Drake’s acknowledged on wax. He was the one who tipped Meek about Quentin Miller’s involvement on “R.I.C.O” which was apparently fuelled by personal motives.

Leave it to N.O.R.E. to tread awkward grounds during Drink Champs and his forthcoming episode with Drama is no different. In a teaser released to Instagram, N.O.R.E. seemingly dives into the matter of Drama’s apparent motives for attempting to sabotage Drake’s career. “Drake smashed your girl,” said N.O.R.E. while Drama began chuckling in disbelief. “Which other way was I supposed to say it?” N.O.R.E. added as everyone in the room began cackling. “Drake had ‘sexual relations’ with a girl that was affiliated with you,” he added while Drama nodded his head.

N.O.R.E traced the steps leading up to the feud beginning with Meek’s visit to Means Street Studio where he heard the reference tracks from Quentin Miller. “All roads led to DJ Drama at that time,” N.O.R.E. concluded. “So, for a lack of a better terms, you was kinda quiet,” the podcast host said. “You really didn’t want to address it.” “I lightly touched on it at times,” Drama replied.

The teaser cuts off there but the full episode of Drink Champs launches this Thursday. Check the teaser below.
