The animated, decades-long, tried-and-true animated comedy, South Park, has entered Season 26 on Comedy Central. While the show didn’t specifically name Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the second episode is a very clear and obvious nod to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The episode, titled The Worldwide Privacy Tour, was jam-packed with references to the couple and their history with the royal family. The episode tells the story of the Prince of Canada and his wife visiting the town of South Park. They loudly claim that they are seeking privacy.
The jokes focus on the fact that Harry and Meghan discuss a desire for privacy while simultaneously sharing intimate details of their life in interviews, Prince Harry’s book, and the Netflix series, Harry & Meghan. On South Park, the prince of Canada promotes his book, Waaaagh, which is a clear satire of Prince Harry’s actual autobiography, Spare. On the episode of South Park, Harry, and Meghan’s dupes walk onto Good Morning Canada holding signs saying “We want our privacy!” and “Stop looking at us!” The host claims that Markle embraces celebrity life, saying, “Some people might say that your Instagram-loving bitch wife actually doesn’t want her privacy.”
“South Park” On Harry & Meghan: Watch
In another scene of the episode, Kyle Broflovski says: “I’m sick of hearing about them! I can’t get away from them! They’re everywhere, in my f***ing face!” To which Eric Cartman replies, “We don’t care about some dumb prince and his stupid wife.” Through a “branding manager,” Harry’s South Park counterpart is described as a “Royal prince, millionaire, world traveler, victim.” His wife is labeled: “Sorority girl, actress, influencer, and victim.”
The pair even light off fireworks in South Park and chant into megaphones, “Done with the Monarchy, we deserve our privacy!” Later in the episode, the Prince of Canada goes on a rant. He says, “If it is truly what we want then we really can get away from it all. No more magazines or Netflix shows. We really can live a normal life.” He pauses. His wife says nothing. “Yes, I’m sure you agree, darling,” he continues. “We can be the people we talked about being with no more worries about how we look or the image we project to people. What matters is what we have on the inside.” The prince’s wife does not respond. He actually opens her mouth to yell “Hello?” into it. It echoes.
