The anticipation for a new album from 6lack is high. The Atlanta singer has remained lowkey in the past five years since dropping, East Atlanta Love Letter. His sophomore album showcased his depth as an artist and his growth while paying homage to his hometown. Future, Offset, J. Cole, and Khalid served as the sole guest appearances on the project and it evidently set the standard for his follow-up.
However, 6lack’s reclusive persona extends to his musical output. He isn’t releasing music regularly like many of his contemporaries but he held fans over in recent years with 6pc Hot EP and singles like “Rent Free.” In the past few weeks, the rapper’s geared up for the release of his next studio album. On Valentine’s Day, he began the campaign by getting the infamous Water Boys of Atlanta to sell flowers instead. Then, he teased the title of the project when he unveiled the acronyms S.I.H.A.L.
6lack – Since I Have A Lover
This morning, 6lack confirmed that the acronym for his new album stands for Since I Have A Lover. With a March 24th release date set, he unveiled the titular track of his upcoming effort. His latest song is led by gentle guitar strings and 6lack’s woozy melodies as he details comfort and love. “Since I have a lover, no more lonely nights / The type of love that you supply, can’t televise,” he sings.
“‘Since I Have a Lover,’ the title track, is the highs of having a healthy love, compressed into song format,” 6LACK said of the song in a statement. “It’s a note to self, that I’m no longer who I was or where I was, and that there’s a bigger purpose starting to reveal itself in the things I create. We are simply pushing love, because it’s needed. The verses are short and serve as a moment of acknowledgment for how I feel, and the chorus is less of a lyric and more of a feeling. It’s an exhale, it’s relief, it’s trust, it’s happiness, it’s surreal.” Check out the song above.
Quotable Lyrics
Soon as I felt your touch
Feet just left the ground
I been tweakin’ since the first time around
Second time around, gettin’ on the gown gotta say a vow
