J. Cole Surprised Fans At 6lack’s ‘Since I Have A Lover’ Tour Stop In Los Angeles To Perform ‘Pretty Little Fears’

J. Cole has long had a reputation for being a bit of a recluse, but in recent months, the North Carolina rapper has seemingly embraced his star status. He’s begun a new run of high-profile collabs with the likes of Gucci Mane, Lil Durk, Lil Yachty, and Summer Walker, while joining contemporaries like 50 Cent and Drake onstage during their respective tours.

Last night, he again joined a former collaborator onstage in Los Angeles, surprising fans at 6lack’s Since I Have A Lover Tour stop at the YouTube Theater to perform their beloved East Atlanta Love Letter duet, “Pretty Little Fears.” Fortunately, Uproxx was in attendance and got the full performance on video:

Other guest cameos at 6lack’s show included singer Jordan Ward, who’s set to join the tour in his native St. Louis next month; Jessie Reyez, who skipped out from backstage to join 6lack for a well-received rendition of their song “Imported”; and Khalid, who of course, sang “OTW” alongside the Atlanta rapper.

Although J. Cole has been busy working on his next album, The Fall Off, he’s still found time to make a few other star moves, such as buying a portion of his beloved Charlotte Hornets and throwing his weight around to help a young NBA prospect land a job with the Miami Heat. If his recent activity is any indicator, it looks like he’ll have plenty of folks to call on to help him finish the album, because clearly, he’s owed a lot of favors now.

Here Is 6lack’s ‘Since I Have A Lover Tour’ Setlist

6lack Wants To Put You To Sleep With An AI-Generated ‘Since I Have A Lover’ Soundscape

“It’s always beautiful to see musicians continuously find new ways to bring their artistry to life with each project they release,” Uproxx’s Wongo Okon wrote about 6lack’s March album, Since I Have A Lover. 6lack took that personally, as he teamed with the Berlin-based AI sound wellness company Endel to create a new function for Since I Have A Lover that nobody saw coming.

Last week, 6lack took to Instagram to tease his and Endel’s collaborative “Sounds For Slowing Down” series, including “an ethereal listening experience of my new sleep soundscape” on Thursday, July 6, and Friday, July 7. The sessions will be hosted in-person in Berlin and Los Angeles, as well as within the app.

Per press release, two soundscapes were created from Since I Have A Lover using “scientifically validated AI technology rooted in extensive neuroscience research” with the intent “to help people sleep and focus better.”

“This is about letting people experience my music in a new way,” 6lack said in a statement. “These sounds can be for rest and relaxation, or for helping you feel inspired and creative. It’s for finding a sense of balance in life. Since I Have A Lover has plenty of magical sounds, and combined with Endel’s AI and science, it was easy to create something that felt healing.”

“SIHAL (Endel Sleep Soundscape)” and “SIHAL (Endel Lo-fi Soundscape)” will release on all streaming platforms on July 8 and July 24, respectively. The partnership is described as an extension of 6lack’s mental health advocacy, purposefully occurring during BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month.

These soundscapes could come in handy for 6lack during his upcoming Since I Have A Lover Tour, beginning this October.

6lack’s Tough-Talking ‘Preach’ Video Perseveres Through The Elements

If 6lack’s goal with the release of his latest video was to have viewers question their existence, then the mission was accomplished. On Friday, March 24, the singer dropped his long-awaited album Since I Have A Lover. The musician has had a few singles, including the album’s title track, “Talk Back,” and “Fatal Attraction,” already receiving rave reviews, and it appears his latest is heading in the same direction.

Co-produced by Cobalii and Nik, “Preach” is a reflective song in which 6lack said in a statement is about “his ultimate decision to break from old damaging patterns.” In the accompanying video, directed by Above Ground, 6lack weathers the emotional elements. As he fights against forced isolation, he finds himself up to his leg in water as he puts out small fires around him — a metaphor for each small battle he’s had to face in this spiritual journey.

As be sings, “I gotta get my dreams back vivid; I put the weed down / But only for a week now, next week it’s back to chief style / Dreamt the whole world went up in flames / It’s been only me and ’bout five other n***** promotin’ change,” he admits that healing is a lonely journey but well worth it.

6lack’s raw honesty is one of the most endearing parts of his artistry, and fans in the comment section of the video agree. One user wrote, “The reason 6LACK has had so much success is because his music is authentic. He built a loyal fanbase through focusing on his craft, and not being pressured into sounding like other artists.”

Since I Have A Lover is out now via LVRN and Interscope. Find more information here.

6LACK Drops Gorgeous New Project “Since I Have A Lover”

6LACK is certainly one of the best voices in R&B. Unfortunately, in the eyes of fans, he hasn’t been dropping enough music. Although he did come through with an EP a while back, his last full-length project was East Atlanta Love Letter in 2018. Overall, it has been close to five years since fans have gotten an LP from the artist. Now, however, 6LACK is back with perhaps his most personal project yet. Yes, that is correct. Since I Have A Lover is finally here, and it is most definitely a glorious undertaking at 19 tracks in length.

Over the course of the last few months, 6LACK has been teasing the release of this new album with various singles. The title track “Since I Have A Lover” and “Talkback” have proven to be absolute musts for any R&B playlist. In fact, the former of these two tracks has a unique indie rock feel to it as we get delicate yet shimmery guitars. It’s a nice departure from the brooding and dark R&B tracks that 6LACK came onto the scene with.

6LACK Demonstrates Growth With His New Body Of Work

These unique production choices can be found all throughout the 59-minute runtime. Consequently, this makes for a diverse album that has a little something for everyone. Additionally, it is clear that 6LACK has been doing a lot of growing as an artist. He is currently on a healing journey and is actively trying to be a better partner. These themes are all throughout the project and it makes for a refreshing listen.

Overall, 6LACK has knocked it out of the park with this new project. While day-one fans might need to get used to this new direction, they will most definitely come around. As always, give us your thoughts on this project, in the comments below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for more news and updates from the hip-hop world.

6lack Recalls A ‘Fatal Attraction’ That Was Doomed From The Beginning On His New Song

We are just over a week away from 6lack‘s long-anticipated third studio album, Since I Have A Lover. Today (March 16), the elusive R&B star gave us another taste from the album. On his new song, “Fatal Attraction,” 6lack croons over a rattling drum and hypnotic piano track, as he laments a star-crossed love.

“Fatal attraction, ah / I will ride for you, ride for you, ride for you / Die for you, die for you, die for you / Live her and cry for you, slide with you / Make me never wanna leave ya / Fatal attraction,” he sings on the song’s chorus.

6lack kicked off the Since I Have A Lover era earlier this month, with the album’s title track as its lead single. On “Since I Have A Lover,” 6lack is on cloud nine, as he sings of the joys of falling in love. Last week, 6lack shared “Talkback,” on which, he expresses that he is at peace and unapologetic about his wins — regardless of what haters and naysayers say.

While “Fatal Attraction” is more sad in tone, it feels reflective in a very healthy manner.

You can check out the lyric video for “Fatal Attraction” above.

Since I Have A Lover is out 3/24 via Interscope and LVRN. Find more information here.

6lack Shares New Single “Fatal Attraction” Ahead Of New Album

6lack is finally inching toward his next studio album, titled, Since I Have a Lover. We’ve been at the edge of our seats waiting for his next project, especially since it’s been nearly four years since East Atlanta Love Letter. Though his last album emerged shortly after the success of his platinum-certified, Free 6lack, he’s taken his time with this one. With the exception of 6pc Hot EP, he hasn’t released much music. However, he’s coming just in time for the spring.

Over the course of the past few weeks, he’s unloaded a handful of singles in anticipation of Since I Have A Lover. After plastering Billboards across the A with the album’s acronyms, he dropped the titular track. Then, he shared “A Letter To My Fans” and “Talkback.” Though he hasn’t dropped the tracklist yet, the past two singles indicate that he has something incredibly special for us when Since I Have A Lover arrives on March 24th.

6lack Shares A Tragic Love Story On “Fatal Attraction”

This week, 6lack shared his latest record, “Fatal Attraction.” The ATL singer gets into his rap-sing bag on this one as he flows effortlessly over production handled by Dos Dias, Dylan Wiggins, Fwdslxsh, and Khris Reddick. As the soft keys strike, he dives into a tale of love and heartbreak – the end of a honeymoon phase and the highs and lows of any relationship.

With 6lack’s new album officially due out next Friday, it feels like “Fatal Attraction” could be his final offering before the project’s release. However, we suspect that a tracklist will come shortly. Perhaps, we’ll see him collaborate with a few of his LVRN labelmates. For now, we’ll have “Fatal Attraction” on repeat. Check his new song above and sound off in the comments with your thoughts. Do you think 6lack will have the R&B album of the year with Since I Have A Lover?

Quotable Lyrics
You been through too much, and you don’t need no more
The help I get is gold, C-3PO
It might be fatal, but I’m hooked on it
Gotta write a book on it, lovin’ when you shook on it

6LACK’s “Since I Have A Lover” Tracklist Includes Don Toliver & Quin

When 6LACK hit the scene with “Prblms” in 2016, the Atlanta singer instantly fell under the spotlight as a favored recording artist. The track was featured on his studio debut, Free 6LACK, followed by his 2018 release of East Atlanta Love Letter. But much to fans’ disappointment, the detached nature exuded in his music carried into the lyricist’s real life, with five years passing since his last project. Although the 30-year-old has had minimal output lately, he’s been secretly brewing up some heat over the years for his forthcoming album, Since I Have A Lover.

In anticipation of this long-awaited project, 6LACK has released several teasers in the past few months. The journey to Since I Have A Lover, which will drop on March 24th, commenced with an intimate disclosure that explained the singer’s whereabouts. In “A Letter To My Fans,” the Baltimore native explains, “this took longer than I promised, but some promises are meant to be broken. When it comes to time and growth, there’s no skipping any part of the process so you just end up repeating lessons that you should have definitely learned from by now.”

6LACK Explains Delay In Album With “A Letter To My Fans”

This honest message was joined by two singles from the album, including the titular song, “Since I Have A Lover,” and 6LACK’s most recent drop, “Talkback.” The latter just published on Friday (March 10), accompanied by a low-key lyric video posted on his YouTube page. Both songs bring to light the artist’s uniquely deep and soothing vocals, which have surely been missed by fans.

Since I Have A Lover has been announced as a 20-track album, with minimal features. He did, however, bring on Don Toliver for the track “Temporary” and his real-life lover Quin for “Wunna Dem.” With 6LACK’s album dropping later this month, be sure to keep in touch with HNHH for more information about this highly-anticipated project.
