Billboard Names OutKast The Greatest Rap Group Of All Time, Social Media Reacts

Billboard recently unveiled their list of the “50 Greatest Rap Groups of All Time.” The outlet put OutKast in the No. 1 slot, followed by Wu-Tang Clan, NWA, A Tribe Called Quest, and more. Though there’s no debate on the major contributions OutKast has made to the world of hip hop since their ’90s debut, some social media users have other ideas as to which group deserves to be number one. Users hit the comments section to weigh in.

“You can’t be serious right now,” one Instagram commenter writes, “They legends but # 1 of all time??????!!!! LMFAOO ain’t no way bruh.” “Wu Tang is the greatest rap group of all time,” another argues. One user claims, “Wu tang the greatest GROUP. Outkast the greatest duo.” Though several commenters believe they didn’t deserve their ranking, fans came to OutKast’s defense.

Users Debate The Best Rap Group Of All Time

Billboard finally got it right,” one social media user says, with another claiming, “If you disagree with this you have no music taste.” “Only people disagreeing with this are 2000’s babies,” one writes alongside a laughing emoji. “Every album these guys travelled to a whole different dimension,” another claims. Other commenters respect the outlet’s decision, though they themselves disagree. “I’m not mad at this but it wouldn’t be my personal choice. Solid overall,” one user writes. Several users believe that OutKast’s creativity alone puts them above the rest, while some believe they haven’t influenced the rap genre enough to take the number one position.

In general, social media users are split when it comes to the outlet’s ranking. Many feel as though the duo should have been considered to be in another category than other groups, because they only have two members while others have more. Several users fall somewhere in the middle, respecting OutKast’s position as one of the greatest rap groups while still thinking another group should have taken the top spot.

Omeretta The Great Challenges Lil Baby, Boosie Bad Azz, And More To ‘Put It On Da Floor’ In Her New Freestyle

Latto‘s latest single, “Put It On Da Floor” has proven to be one of the buzziest hip-hop tracks of the year. Though she doesn’t specifically diss any rapper by name (despite a line many took as shade toward Coi Leray), she keeps all of her opps on notice. Additionally, several rappers have dropped freestyles over the track.

The latest comes from Latto’s fellow Atlanta rapper Omeretta The Great, who leaves no name unchecked.

On her freestyle, she addresses rapper Lil Baby dissing Gunna over rumors he took a plea deal, as Lil Durk, and New Orleans rapper Boosie Bad Azz, both of whom also dissed Gunna.

“They talking bout Baby making disses, I guess he picking a side / But this Atlanta business, someone tell Boosie be quiet / I heard that Durk all on the ‘gram tryna boost up his pride / He sending disses at lil Gunna when Lil Y be outside,” she raps.

This isn’t the first time Omeretta’s bar have been the subject of controversy. Last February, her song “Sorry Not Sorry” caused quite a stir, as she questioned the legitimacy of people from certain neighborhoods who claim to be from Atlanta.

You can hear a snippet of Omeretta The Great’s “Put It On Da Floor” freestyle above.

Gunna and Young Thug are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Big Daddy Kane Says He Wants To “Build” With Lil Uzi Vert, Kodak Black

During a recent interview on The Big Tigger Morning Show, Big Daddy Kane discussed the future of hip hop. He revealed that he believes the key to securing the future of the genre lies in the younger generation. In light of hip hop celebrating it’s 50-year-anniversary, he claims he’d like to sit down with some younger artists to “give them [the] game.”

“To get another 50, I believe that we need to bridge that gap between the older generation and the younger generation,” Big Daddy Kane explained. He continued, describing how the older generation could provide younger artists with some valuable insight. “We had our shot, we did our thing,” he says, “we’re still around, and we have a fan base that supports us for our catalog. So we’re not trying to threaten the younger generation, not trying to replace them.”

Big Daddy Kane Wants To Sit Down With The Younger Generation

“I would love to sit down with the likes of like Lil Uzi Vert or Kodak Black or Migos,” he continued, “any of these cats, just to build. I think that’s what’s important when there can be a connection where the past generation can talk with the future generation and give them [the] game.”

In a recent interview with HNHH, Big Daddy Kane discussed the “expiration dates” put on hip hop artists. “They call [older artists] ‘old school’ instead of Hip-Hop legends,” he explained. “In my opinion,” he continued, “it is something that needs to be done, you know? It’s something that needs to be done to show respect. And then also, for a younger generation to see the difference. I would love for the younger generation to say, ‘Damn. They don’t have all that stuff exploding and all of this and they still tore it down. Yeah, I gotta step my stage game up,‘ you know? So that they can have a longer career doing what they do.”

Nardwuar’s Wildest Hip Hop Interviews

The style in which Nardwuar interviews his guests is unparalleled. No matter who he interviews, he always entertains and educates the interviewee and viewer. The 54-year-old journalist and musician always reps his hometown of Vancouver, Canada, and is known for his quirkiness and his vast depth of knowledge that never fails to impress. Nardwuar’s most entertaining interviews are often when he pulls hard-to-find information about the interviewee’s personal life, usually leaving them speechless.

The self-proclaimed “human serviette” has spoken with almost everyone but tends to interview musicians. Some notable viral moments of Nardwuar’s rap interviews include Future being asked about cheesecake, Migos shouting out Matty B, Cardi B fanning out over Junie B. Jones books, and his many conversations with Snoop Dogg.

This is a list of Nardwuar’s wildest rap interviews, consisting of the craziest and most surprised reactions from the hip hop artists. Look at the list below, ranked from least wild to the wildest.

5. Nardwuar vs. DJ Khaled (2016)

Nardwuar might be the only interviewer to make DJ Khaled almost break away from his booming personality. DJ Khaled practically has his own language full of catchphrases and inflections, but Nardwuar manages to get a compelling interview out of him. When he is not exclaiming “We the best” or “Another one,” DJ Khaled shows his passion for hip hop and deep involvement in the Miami scene, discussing the artists that inspired him. Nardwuar’s extremely personal questions leave Khaled dumbfounded, to the point where he asks if Nardwuar is involved with the police during the wildest moments of the interview.

4. Nardwuar vs. ScHoolboy Q (2014)

While Nardwuar’s interview with ScHoolboy Q may not be wild in how Q reacts, but for how natural the conversation is. Nardwuar engages ScHoolboy Q with his knowledge of music and Q’s history, leading to uncontrollably stoned reactions from ScHoolboy Q. The legendary moment that makes this one of Nardwuar’s wildest rap interviews comes after all of the questions. At the end, ScHoolboy Q rolls and smokes a joint from a Cheech & Chong vinyl from 1972 that included a rolling paper in the record’s sleeve. As ScHoolboy Q rolls, Nardwuar watches in amazement because out of the many rappers he showed the record to, Q was the first rapper to actually smoke the record’s rolling paper. One of the most amusing moments is when ScHoolboy Q attempts to pass the joint to Nardwuar.

3. Nardwuar vs. Blac Youngsta (2019)

Nardwuar’s interview with Blac Youngsta is thoroughly entertaining. The way Blac Youngsta interacts with Nardwuar is nothing at all like the tough rapping in his music. Blac Youngsta seemed just as excited to get interviewed as Nardwuar was to ask him questions. Throughout the interview, Blac Youngsta continued getting caught off guard, stunned by questions about his favorite Memphis artists and personal life. The interview was one of the purest interactions between Nardwuar and another rapper.

2. Nardwuar vs. Denzel Curry (2018)

One can always expect the guest to be shocked by Nardwuar’s questions, but no one was more shocked than Denzel Curry. Throughout the 12-minute interview, Denzel’s amazement grows with each question, especially about his childhood and hometown. At one point, Nardwuar begins listing the names of Denzel’s childhood friends, leaving Denzel so stunned that he takes a lap around the room. Toward the end of the interview, Curry tries to hijack the interview, putting on Nardwuar’s hat and asking himself questions.

1. Nardwuar vs. Odd Future (2011)

Nardwuar’s interview with Odd Future is easily his wildest and most legendary rap interview. The hip hop group’s interview with Nardwuar went exactly how one would expect. Throughout the interview, Tyler, The Creator and Hodgy goof around with Nardwuar’s strange questions and geek out over his most bizarre inquiries. Tyler and Hodgy find humor in almost everything Nardwuar says or does, especially when shown strange items. The interview is chaotic, funny, and insightful. Since this interview, Nardwuar has spoken with several Odd Future members. He has done multiple Tyler, The Creator interviews, as well as MellowHype, Earl Sweatshirt, and Syd. Today, people still compare Nardwuar’s most outlandish rap interviews to his Odd Future interview.

Young Thug’s Attorney Denies Claims The Rapper Provided Information About A Homicide

Earlier this week, Young Thug’s attorney filed a motion for the testimony of a police witness to be blocked. In the motion, he claims that the witness will make false statements to the jury. According to information obtained by XXL, attorney Brian Steel thinks that the witness, Det. Quinn, will claim that he previously received information from Young Thug regarding an unsolved murder. It’s unconfirmed when the witness claims the incident allegedly took place. However, the motion alleges that he provided the information to police when he was a “very young man.”

The motion says, “Based upon information and belief, the prosecution and some of its witnesses, including but not limited to Det. Quinn, may wrongly state that Mr. Jeffery Williams was in the back of their police car at some point and gave information on a murder case.” It continues, “Same is untrue. However, same also places Mr. Williams’ character in issue by being in a locked police car and having information on a murder. This evidence must be excluded because same is not accurate; places Mr. Williams’ character at issue; and is irrelevant to the trial of the above-referenced case.”
