Zion Williamson Shaded By “1 Ton” Mardi Gras Parade Float

The start to 2022 has been tumultuous for New Orleans Pelicans young star forward Zion Williamson. Since the end of last season, Zion has been dealing with and rehabbing a foot injury, as he has been sidelined the entire 2021-22 season thus far.

As he has seldom made public appearances during the rehab process, fans notice he is looking pretty heavy when he does pop out. Photos taken from bad angles and rumors have added to the noise surrounding the notion that he has let himself go.

Along with this, media outlets like ESPN have been hounding Williamson for being a bad teammate for not reaching out to newly traded for Pelicans acquisitions like star CJ McCollum.

Now, it seems that the insults are only increasing as New Orleans kicks off its late February, early March yearly Mardi Gras celebration. In a recent parade for the festive season, a float depicted an overweight Zion. The float was named “1 Ton,” poking fun at Zion’s weight, and shows him eating and saying “I’m hungry.”

Not only has national media taken aim at Zion, but now his own city and fanbase has turned on him. It is unclear when Zion will return for action for the Pels, or if he even wants to stay with New Orleans in the future, but as one of the most notable young stars in the league, it’s rough to see him being treated this way.

Check out the brutal video of the parade float below.

Tyga & Doja Cat Get “Freaky Deaky” On This Week’s “R&B Season” Update

Leading the way on our latest R&B Season update is an upbeat soon-to-be certified hit called “Freaky Deaky” by “Rack City” hitmaker Tyga, featuring Grammy-nominated Planet Her recording artist Doja Cat.

When chatting with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the Compton-born rapper opened up about his experience making the collaboration, and couldn’t help but sing his partner’s praises. “She’s a true artist,” he said of the 26-year-old. “And I think we see that from her outfits, her lives, her TikToks, but that’s what makes her, her, and she’s a real true artist and that’s what I appreciate about her.”

Next up is another bedroom anthem in the form of an IV4 and Jeremih joint called “Stroke,” which, as you can imagine, focuses mainly on laying pipe. “S-T-R-O-K-E / I need that stroke / Oh, give me that S-T-R-O-K-E / Fiendin’ that stroke,” the new arrival begins, only getting hotter as it goes on.

Kehlani came through with some new heat this week as well, sharing “little story” from their upcoming blue water road studio album. Along with the song, the “Toxic” singer shared a beautiful black and white music video that they directed alongside Alex Thurmond – check it out here.

Finally, we have Maeta’s “Frank For You,” which finds the Habits vocalist reflecting on her strong feelings for a man that she knows deep down she’s not quite ready to commit to yet.

Yo Gotti Affiliate Snootie Wild Pronounced Dead: Report

The city of Memphis has dealt with a lot of tragedy in their rap scene lately. After Young Dolph’s late 2021 death, now Snootie Wild is the latest hip-hop artist to lose his life from Memphis.

Snootie Wild and his mentor Yo Gotti have always been shining stars for the city, as Snootie signed to Gotti’s Collective Music Group label in 2013. A year later in 2014, the two collaborated for their hit song “Yayo,” helping to bolster Snootie’s career.

On Friday morning (Feb. 25), Snootie was found with a bullet wound in his neck in south Houston, TX. Authorities say there were reports of gunfire around 2 a.m. in that area, and Snootie was taken to the hospital after being found in a ditch next to an SUV with the wound. However, Snootie was not dead on arrival, and was in critical condition when he got to the hospital, as his official Facebook account noted: “Snootie is not DEAD! But he is fighting for his life. Out of respect for the family, please refrain from sharing anything that is not communicated through his official accounts. Thank you.”

Houston PD Lieutenant Willkens explained what the police believe transpired that night: “It looks like he backed in there (the ditch) accidentally. Then the other vehicle pulled up, and folks got out of the car. They were talking for a little bit, and then all of a sudden, gunfire went off. Only one shot, actually.”

After doctors were not able to save him, Snootie passed away on Friday (Feb. 25) in the hospital. No suspects have been identified yet.

Rappers and producers like Sonny Digitial, Boosie Badazz and K Camp offered their condolences for Snootie Wild.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Snootie Wild. RIP.

Hodgy Shapeshifts On “People Change”

Recently, Hodgy has been noticably tinkering with his sound and vocal approach. Weeks ago, he released a single titled “Everyday,” a crooning and creative offering in which his voice took on multiple tones and intentions. Now, he’s added the track “People Change” to the prior release, serving as a two-pack of new Hodgy sonics.

On “People Change”, Hodgy covers more ground and traverses even more new territory than he explored on “Everyday.” Longtime friend and collaborator Left Brain (as members of the group MellowHype) handles the production. The beat goes through multiple stages and evolutions, Hodgy keying in on each piece of the structure with an intentionally different inflection and pattern.

It may take a few listens to grasp the sonic direction fully, but the pieces have enjoyable qualities and components. It’s clear that experimentation is the direction that Hodgy is continuing to head in.

Listen to the two part series Everyday People Change below:

Quotable Lyrics

All my rivals, on arrival, bullets spiral, out a rifle, homicidal,
Watch what I do, MellowHype, you ride a wave, I’m a tidal,
Not entitled to a title
