NBA Youngboy’s Clubhouse Appearance Leads To Huge Surge On App Store

The hype around Clubhouse died down but it might be NBA Youngboy’s fanbase that revives the platform’s popularity, at least on the App Store. Last week, Youngboy made an appearance on Clubhouse where he joined Akademiks for an in-depth interview. He discussed everything from his crush on Doja Cat to his listening habits, which apparently excludes many of his peers such as Lil Baby, 21 Savage and Polo G.

The conversation had plenty of viral bits but it seems that it also led to a surge in Clubhouse downloads on Apple’s App Store. As Akademiks reports, the app previously stood at 60th on the App Store before propelling to #5 in the days following Youngboy’s appearance. It’s an impressive feat, one which shows the gravity of Youngboy’s influence on the youth, even if he claims to be blackballed from the industry.

Youngboy’s conversation with Akademiks wasn’t his only appearance on Clubhouse, though. Days later, he hopped into a room where 21 Savage was speaking and began to troll him. Then, he hosted his own room when the mother of his child, Yaya Mayweather, inserted herself into the conversation. Perhaps, we’ll be hearing more from NBA Youngboy with his newfound presence on Clubhouse.

In related news, the rapper was expected to release his long-awaited collaboration with Birdman, From The Bayou on Friday, which never happened. At this point, it would be surprising if it ever saw the light of day.

DJ Paul Offers His Perspective On Bizzy Bone & Juicy J’s “Verzuz” Scrap

One of the most anticipated battles in hip-hop finally went down last week when Three 6 Mafia and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony went hit-for-hit on Verzuz. If you recall, this was initially planned out during the pandemic, before Swizz Beatz and Timbaland attempted to get involved. The show was briefly shelved before taking place on Dec. 3rd.

Things went south quickly during the event. While Bizzy Bone demanded some respect, Juicy J immediately cussed out Bizzy Bone who hurled a water bottle towards Three 6 Mafia’s side of the stage and all hell broke loose. Juicy J leaped towards Bone Thugs ready to brawl while Gangsta Boo offered some hilarious color commentary. Bizzy Bone was removed then returned to the stage shortly after.

DJ Paul recently sat down with HipHopDX where he shared his side of the story. He explained that Three 6 Mafia didn’t do anything to contribute to fuel the tension in the room. However, things had already begun to heat up with Bizzy’s Instagram posts and already stiff “mood.”

“The funny part about it is he hasn’t toured with the guys for like two years,” DJ Paul told DX. “Bone don’t even fuck with him. I’m not in their business; I don’t have anything to do with their business and I don’t even care. I just stood up for my boy Juicy J. That’s my brother and when [Bizzy] threw the shit at him, I stood in front of him and was ready to handle business… I’m not going to let anyone mess with anyone on my team. And that’s what it’s about — it’s about team.”

Paul also addressed Bizzy’s claim that Three 6 was mocking the group’s double-time flow. He said they “never mocked him the entire time because we knew what [Bizzy Bone] was on,” based on the series of Instagram posts leading up to the event. “He did posts calling us devil worshippers. We’re not devil worshippers. Juicy [and Project Pat’s] daddy is a preacher. We’re not devil worshippers,” he added.

Nonetheless, Paul appears to be down to work with Bizzy Bone on new music in the future. He said he would love to produce a whole body of work for Bizzy Bone but he just has to “gotta get it together.”

“I fuck with dude, tough. I love dude — put that in there! I’m a fan,” he said. “I would love to produce a project with me and Bizzy Bone. That’s like ‘Oh, my God. It would be so hard, n-gga?’ But he gotta get it together!”

Lizzo Targets Drake (Again) In Erykah Badu Cover

Art Basel, a platform that brings together artists, collectors, and galleries, held one of its annual fairs this past weekend in Miami. Showcasing many different exhibitions, thousands of attendees gathered to experience the show that was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. The event lasted three days and included appearances from artists like Pharrel Williams, Lenny Kravitz, Ray J and many more.

“Truth Hurts” singer, Lizzo, was among those celebrity attendees, and she also hit the stage. Lizzo helped close out the entire event as she performed an exclusive show for American Express cardholders. The theme for her show was “Breathe B***h” — angled after several of her shows were initially canceled due to the pandemic. “I was so caught up in fear that I forgot to breathe. When I breathe, I bring life back to my joy,” Lizzo said of the theme.

During her 70-minute performance, the artist decided to remix Erykah Badu’s hit song “Tyrone.” Changing up a few of the lyrics, Lizzo asks if she should “Call back Drake so that he can cry or dive in the p***y?”

This isn’t the first we’ve heard of the singer’s crush on the certified lover boy. When she released her song “Rumors” with Cardi B, she stated in the lyrics, “No, I ain’t f*** Drake yet.” It seems like she has been plotting for a while.

Lizzo also had to mention Chris Evans in her “Tyrone” remix amid her drunk-DMing him back in April. In her performance, she said, “Maybe I should call Chris Evans so Captain America can put another bun up in my oven.” This comes from Evans jokingly agreeing that he and the artist should have a baby together.

After seeing her performance via Twitter, the artist quoted it saying, “Why am I this way?”

Utah Proud Boys Host Kyle Rittenhouse Appreciation Rally

While people all over the country gathered to protest the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse in November, this past weekend saw The Proud Boys of Utah come together to celebrate their so-called hero.

As reported by Complex, the event was held in Salt Lake City’s Washington Square Park from 12 to 2 PM. A Facebook flyer seemingly encourages patrons to arrive to the rally armed, but it remains unclear how many weapons, if any, were on the premises.

The “Kyle Rittenhouse Appreciation Rally” was sponsored by Stand Up For Your Constitutional Rights and a handful of other right-wing, Utah-based militia groups. “Bring banners, 2A flags, and freedom flags” to celebrate “your right to defend your cities,” a flyer encouraged those looking to attend. Those who stopped by were reportedly served hot chocolate and desserts.

Rittenhouse, who brought an AR-15 rifle to a Black Lives Matter event in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last August, was charged and later acquitted after being tried for fatally shooting two people and injuring a third. Lawyers argued that the 18-year-old opened fire in self defense, and a jury ultimately agreed with them on November 19th.

“While the verdict in Kenosha will leave many Americans feeling angry and concerned, myself included, we must acknowledge that the jury has spoken. I ran on a promise to bring Americans together, because I believe that what unites us is far greater than what divides us,” President Joe Biden said after the upsetting news broke.

“I know that we’re not going to heal our country’s wounds overnight, but I remain steadfast in my commitment to do everything in my power to ensure that every American is treated equally, with fairness and dignity, under the law.”

Watch Chris Stapleton And HER Perform ‘This Christmas’ At The National Christmas Tree Lighting

A time-honored tradition, The National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony took place in Washington D.C. last night with both Joe and Jill Biden present for the affair. There was a full-on slate of musical guests that included Chris Stapleton, HER, Juanes, Billy Porter, Keb’ Mo’, Patti LaBelle, Maren Morris, Kristin Chenoweth, the Howard University Gospel Choir, and LL Cool J as the evening’s presenter. Think of the ceremony as the Super Bowl of Christmas Tree lightings and it’s a totally decked out tree that spares no expense. Get a load of the description of this year’s design:

“This year’s design includes a background of warm white lights with a delicate sprinkling of sparkling red and warm white sphere ornaments placed in a cascading pattern from the top all the way down the newly planted White Fir tree, with a cluster of sparkling red and white spheres on the lower branches. A simple, yet elegant star topper finishes off the design.

So with the gigantic tree flanking the stage, the stars came out and Stapleton and HER laid down a rendition of “This Christmas” that highlights what the 2022 Grammy nominees do best. Stapleton’s down home country vocals and slick guitar kicked off the number before being joined by HER’s gorgeous piano and elegant, forceful singing, becoming emboldened as the song rolled on. Backed by the U.S. Army Band Downrange, the confluence of the pair’s talents on the duet chorus made for a classy performance that feels natural and fits the moment perfectly.

Watch the video of the pair performance of “This Christmas” above.
