Cardi B & Offset Document The Glory Days To Remind Their Kids They Were “The Sh*t”

There comes a time in every parent’s life when they have to accept the fact that the glory days are over. For Cardi B and Offset, they’ve made sure to have video and photo evidence, just in case their two children ever doubt that they weren’t turnt out here.

Cardi B and Offset looked hella fancy during their appearance at Playboy Party over the weekend to celebrate Cardi’s role as the new creative director. While footage emerged on the Internet of the two turning up with everyone else in attendance, Cardi made a concerted effort to capture footage of her and Offset iced out. She explained that she wants to make sure there’s proof — as if the paparazzi footage wasn’t enough — that she and her husband were “the shit” in case their two children ever doubted their cool factor.

“We some lit parents,” Cardi said as Offset adjusted his icy chain. “Like, we need to do videos like this because, you know, when our kids get older and they trying to act like we wasn’t that,” she continued before Offset interjected, saying, “We was turnt.”

“Yeah, we was turnt. Fuck outta here,” she continued before speaking directly to their kids. “Yeah, mom and dad was the shit.”

In all fairness, it’ll be a little difficult for their kids to ever doubt their parents’ coolness, given that they’re already iced out in jewels and decked out in the flyest gear.

DJ Khaled Says He Worked For Free 97% Of His Life & Reveals New Drake Collab Is On The Way

DJ Khaled is one of the most successful figures in the modern hip hop landscape

Despite the seemingly-endless stream of memes and hilarious soundbites from the 46-year-old producer, Khaled has been involved with some of the most iconic records in recent hip hop history, and has collaborated with all of the genre’s biggest names.

This past weekend, in an interview with podcasters Rashad Bilal and Troy Millings at Miami’s Art Basel, Khaled gave some advice to up-and-comers and dropped a couple of his signature keys to success.

“I’m a producer, I’m a DJ, I’m a father, I’m a friend. I’m in real estate, I’m in retail, I’m into restaurants, I’m into it all,” Khaled said during the “Own Your Masters” event. “We’re supposed to use our social media because it’s really a free commercial for your business. One thing I learned about building a great business…If you do good business, you get good business back. If you do great business, you get great business back.”

During his conversation with Bilal and Millings, the “I’m On One” mastermind touched on the value of patience, and revealed that yet another Drake collab is in the works.

“It didn’t happen overnight for me. Quincy Jones didn’t make Thriller until he was 50 years old. Me, when I turned 40, that was when my biggest success happened. I’ve worked free 90 percent of my life, 97 percent of my life, I worked for free. And anyone can vouch for that. But I knew what it would take, and so your social media, you put out that good stuff, you get that good stuff back. That’s the key,” he said.

“I got some new music coming out with Drake real soon,” Khaled finished. “This shit sounds crazy too, the vocals are in.”

What do you think of DJ Khaled’s keys to success? Will you be looking for that new Drake record when it drops? Let us know down in the comments.

Stephen A. Smith Thinks The Lakers Could Be Irrelevant Soon

This year has not been too kind to the Los Angeles Lakers, who came into the season as favorites to go all the way. With LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook, you think this team would be one of the best in the league. Instead, they are 12-12 and are only seventh in the Western Conference. It is a pretty sad state of affairs for the team, and fans are looking for answers.

When it comes to the analysts out there, the Lakers are looking like a bit of a joke, especially with the Warriors playing top-notch basketball. Stephen A. Smith is one such person who is disappointed in the Lakers, as he took to First Take today with a bit of a wild hot take. As you can see in the clip below, Smith believes the Lakers are on their way to becoming irrelevant.

“Ain’t no way in hell [the Lakers] are winning the championship! … The Los Angeles Lakers might not make it out the first round!” Smith said. This is certainly some hyperbole, especially when you consider how the Lakers are one of the most historic franchises in the NBA. Even when they are playing terribly, they will always be a part of the overall NBA discourse.

Regardless, Smith does make a good point in terms of what this team can accomplish, moving forward. They have not been particularly consistent and if they don’t get better soon, they could wind up with yet another poor matchup in the playoffs.

Leon Bridges Serenades A Dusty Landscape With A Dreamy Cover Of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Purple Snowflakes’

It’s that time of the year again. Snowflakes are falling (in a select few parts of the country) and musicians everywhere are celebrating the season by sharing newly recorded holiday music. Ed Sheeran just released an original Christmas song with Elton John and Dave Grohl is celebrating each day of Hanukkah by sharing a new cover of a classic rock jam. Now singing his version of a holiday jingle, Leon Bridges puts a Texas spin on one of Marvin Gaye‘s Christmas tracks, “Purple Snowflakes.”

“Purple Snowflakes” originally appeared on the compilation album Motown Christmas Vol. 2, which featured music by Diana Ross, The Jackson 5, The Temptations, and, of course, Marvin Gaye. The original version of the song features jingling bells that are commonplace in classic Christmas tunes. But for his version, Leon Bridges takes things in a bit of a different direction.

Dressed up in an outfit that’s one-part cowboy and one-part Elvis impersonator, Bridges trades in snow-touched scenery for the dusty landscape of the California hills to deliver his cover of the Gaye classic. Bridges’ version of the track has chimes instead of bells and a full band offers subdued instrumentals to allow the singer’s voice to absolutely shine. While he’s just now sharing the cover as an official video, Bridges actually recorded the song exclusively for Amazon Music as part of their new Amazon Original holiday project.

Alicia Keys Is Dangerously Close To Reuniting Lil Wayne And Pusha T On Her New Album

Alicia Keys is a lot of things: A singer, a songwriter, a Grammy Award-winner, an on-the-nose Netflix romcom producer, a wife, a mother, and now, apparently, a true agent of chaos. Considering the absolute deluge of drama that comes out of any attempt to force Lil Wayne and Pusha T into reconciliation, her decision to put them both on her upcoming album KEYS is like the rap game equivalent of throwing rocks at a wasp’s nest. She shared a tracklist for the 26-track double album featuring both names and set rap fans buzzing about the possibility of renewed hostilities.

Granted, unlike prior attempts to force collaboration, she didn’t put them on the same track — in fact, she didn’t even put them on the same “disc,” as KEYS has a unique twist meant to show off the duality of the singer’s classical training as juxtaposed with her deep roots in hip-hop. But the move does read a lot like playing with fire, especially if Pusha T’s younger brother instincts take over and have him tossing darts at Lil Wayne across the gulf. The two don’t even have to be on the same track to spark resentment, with Pusha’s verse on Pop Smoke’s album taking shots at Wayne’s longtime labelmate Drake and prompting Young Thug to speak out against him.

Pusha will appear on Side One, dropping bars on the intro track “Plentiful,” and Wayne will pop up on “Nat King Cole,” produced by Mike Will Made-It. Hopefully, the two can resist their urge to butt heads without being on the same track, as Rick Ross attempted to do in 2019 before Pusha torpedoed that plan with his “Maybach Music VI” verse, which ultimately had to be cut to keep the peace. If they can keep things civil, it’ll be one more step toward reconciliation after Wayne admitted he has no idea why Pusha has been sniping at him for the last 15 years.

Meanwhile, Alicia’s other guests are way more likely to keep things cool; as Khalid, Lucky Daye, and Swae Lee all seem unlikely to start throwing reckless haymakers at each other — although stranger things have happened in the world of hip-hop.

KEYS is due 12/10 on RCA. Pre-save it here.

Post Malone, Jack Harlow, Doja Cat Headline 2022 Hangout Fest

Festivals finally made their return this year. While few major festivals like Coachella opted to postpone their event, once again, due to the pandemic, plenty of other festivals returned in full form, boosting the local economy and providing fans with the live music experiences they’ve been missing.

In 2020, Hangout Festival stacked its line-up with major headliners from Post Malone, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, Jhene Aiko, Megan Thee Stallion, and more. Unfortunately, like every other festival, it was forced to cancel. Then, they announced that the festival would return in 2021, only to announce a postponement to the fall, which depended on the vaccination status. It never ended up happening but things are looking hopeful in 2022.

Hangout Festival just announced the line-up for the 2022 edition of the festival, set to take place from May 20th to 22nd. Post Malone will be headlining the festival on May 20th, with artists like T-Pain and Tyla Yaweh also hitting the stage. On Saturday, May 21st, Halsey and Doja Cat will be holding down the headlining spots. Plus, Lil Yachy and Flo Milli are bound to bring energetic performances as well. Closing out the festival on May 22nd is Megan Thee Stallion and Jack Harlow, along with Tame Impala and Louis The Child, among others.

Check out the full festival line-up below. Are you copping tickets?

Smokepurpp Mugshot Surfaces As Arrest Rumors Intensify

Florida rapper Smokepurpp may have had a run-in with the police because a mugshot photo has been circulating for the last few hours on social media, seemingly suggesting that he has been arrested. Right now, there is very limited information available regarding his alleged arrest.

The rumors started to break on Monday night as hip-hop fans commented about Purpp’s alleged arrest on Reddit, Twitter, and other platforms. Nobody is quite sure of what happened to Purpp but the mugshot photo shows the 24-year-old rapper with a straight face, looking right into the camera.

This comes at the end of a relatively quiet year for Smokepurpp. The rapper experimented with his style in releases from earlier this year before dropping his return single “Not Your Speed” last month with Lil Gnar. After the release of his new single, Purpp stopped updating his social media pages until last week, when he shared a tribute to the late Virgil Abloh. He has not commented on rumors about his arrest and we will keep you updated as more information is released.

The former XXL Freshman is presently gearing up for the release of his upcoming collaborative project with Murda Beatz, titled Bless Yo Trap 2, which is set to drop next year.

CKay Channels Soulja Boy’s “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” On New Single “Emiliana”

While viral success doesn’t always dictate future success, Nigerian singer-songwriter CKay is capitalizing on every bit of virality he’s experienced.

After “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” dominated the internet for the last year (especially on TikTok), CKay returned with a pair of new singles. “By Your Side” and “Emiliana,” released simultaneously on December 2, are prime examples of CKay’s versatility as a musician, and display both his strengths as a songwriter, and his ability to skate on all different types of instrumentals.

“Emiliana” which finds CKay on his Soulja Boy vibes, asking his lover to “kiss me through the cellular,” and “kiss me through the phone,” is a sultry cut that is sure to strike a mood for whoever’s listening to it. While it’s yet to be seen if either of these records will experience the same level of success as “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah),” it’s clear that CKay stays bringing the heat, and just might be here to stay.

If I hit you with my combo
Girl, you will never ever let me go
