Roddy Ricch Previews New Music

Roddy Ricch is on the verge of delivering his upcoming album LIVE LIFE FA$T, a title he confirmed a few weeks ago. Alas, he neglected to share a release date, though he did recently confirm that the project was in the mastering stages.

Perhaps it’s fair to assume that Ricch will be delivering more concrete news on the album — possibly even the album itself — in October. Case in point, the Compton rapper recently shared a promising new song preview, presumably from the upcoming LIVE LIFE FA$T.

Produced by DA Doman, the track finds Roddy taking to a smooth instrumental. “Take my bitch somewhere tropical,” he says. “No obstacles/ 2022 I ain’t trying to see no obstacles.” Later, he drives his cadence to a higher pitch. “Seven point five, whenever you pull up its gated / long as you never betray me, how can you never betray me,” he wonders. “I pass all the money.”

It’s certainly interesting to see how Roddy opts to attack this one, approaching the instrumental with a slow and extremely laid-back, minimalist flow. Perhaps it’s a sign that LIVE LIFE FA$T will be more methodical, a contrast to the expectations suggested by the album’s title. Of course, this is only one snippet, and it will likely gain new significance in the context of the full tracklist.

Check out the snippet below, and sound off if you think this DA Doman-produced new snippet sounds like a promising addition to Roddy’s LIVE LIFE FA$T.

Young Thug & ASAP Rocky Spotted In Studio Ahead Of “PUNK” Release

Young Thug is dominating 2021.

With multiple number-one singles including Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy,” and a number-one, certified-gold record with YSL’s Slime Language 2, the Atlanta native has been doing numbers on the charts and during his NPR Tiny Desk Concert at the end of July, Young Thug revealed his new album PUNK would arrive on October 15. Confirming the announcement with an Instagram post, fans have been left waiting patiently for the Slime Season rapper to deliver his much-anticipated follow up to 2019’s So Much Fun

Last night, we were blessed with what seems to be a promising update on the project’s status.

In a photo posted by DJ Akademiks, Thugger was seen in the studio working alongside Testing rapper ASAP Rocky.

Rocky, who has veered further and further towards acting, the world of fashion and has seen his most recent headlines come from Met Gala looks and late night date nights with Rihanna, has been quiet about any upcoming music of his own, leading fans to believe the pair of rappers was working on Young Thug’s newest project.

Although the two have never officially gotten on the same track, both Rocky and Thug have appeared on remixes and in leaks together and have brought each other out for guest appearances during live performances.

What type of music we’re going to get from this most recent link up is yet to be seen but based on their proclivities for weed, high-fashion and being two of the coolest, smoothest rappers of their generation, it’s safe to say there are high expectations for a potential collaboration.

What do you think of Young Thug and ASAP Rocky linking in the studio? What can we expect from the pair? Let us know in the comments.

The New ‘Harder They Fall’ Trailer Teases A Jay-Z And Kid Cudi Collaboration

Jay-Z and Kid Cudi, despite both being very popular rappers in the upper echelon of the genre’s best-known names, would seem to be diametrically opposed at first glance. Jay came up in the gritty ’90s and helped define the glitzy sound of the 2000s before settling into his elder statesman role in the last decade. Kid Cudi, however, was a part of the blog era movement to redefine rap, focusing on mental health rather than “Money, Cash, Hoes.”

But the two make for one awesome dynamic duo in the new trailer for the Netflix Western The Harder They Fall, where a new collaboration between them can be heard as Idris Elba, Jonathan Majors, and Regina King shoot at each other with old-timey revolvers. Fittingly, the song features a shootout theme, with Cudi’s chorus echoing the refrain “My guns go bang” and Jay’s verse describes a duel: “Bullets with your names, drew / Cock back, aim, shoot.”

Netflix has appeared to make an effort to reach out to both hip-hop generations in recent years; from the rap contest Rhythm + Flow to a new Kanye West documentary to a comedy special hosted by Saweetie, the streaming company has made sweeping overtures to capture a demographic with plenty of potential for all kinds of enjoyable content.

Watch the Harder They Fall trailer above and stream the film itself on Netflix on 11/3.

Boosie Badazz Banned From Instagram Again After Asking Drake For Help

It’s a big week for Boosie Badazz. The Louisiana rap icon just released his new biopic, promoting it all over social media. Because of his situation on Instagram though, where he keeps getting banned for violating the app’s guidelines, it’s been difficult for the film to gain traction on the platform. And now, after asking Drake to help get the word out about his movie, Boosie has to create yet another Instagram profile because his old one, which was an alternate account, has been suspended.

“MY IG WAS TAKEN FOR NOTHNG AGAIN,” complained the rapper on Twitter. “THEY MUST HAVE FOUND OUT I HAVE A FILM THAT IM PROMOTING. PLEASE CONTINUE TO BUY MY FILM DESPITE THIS MOVE TO STOP THE SUCESS OF MY STRUGGLE. YALL ALL I GOT AGAINST THESE POWERFUL PEOPLE. BUY IT TWICE TO BOOST MY FIRST WEEK NUMBERS THANKS.”

“PROBALY CAUSE I REACHED OUT TO @Drake FOR HELP LOL SMH,” he continued.

In the midst of his tweet spree about the film, where he shared fans’ posts and more, Boosie insulted somebody’s wife — possibly Mark Zuckerburg’s spouse Priscilla Chan — saying, “DAM HIS WIFE UGLY AS FUCK WTF IS THAT does she have autism lol.”

Considering Boosie’s feud with Mark Zuckerburg over his privacy policies on Instagram, many believe that he’s insulting Zuck’s wife with his ableist and disturbing comments.

Boosie finished his rant by teasing some new music, saying, “IM GOING N THE STUDIO N GO OFF!! IM NOT SHUTTING UP STAY TUNED IM ABOUT GO OFF DROPPING IT SOON AS ITS MIXED N MASTERED.”

Jadakiss Asks Naomi Osaka To Arrange A Cordae Collab

Depending on who you ask, there’s a chance that Jadakiss would be among the rappers listed in a given top ten dead or alive. It’s no surprise really; for decades now, Kiss has continuously delivered elite lyricism across his studio discography, his LOX work, and his storied mixtape catalog.

These days, Kiss has set his sights on the new generation, using his position as a hip-hop legend to provide wisdom and mentorship. Evidently, one rapper that appears to have caught his attention is Cordae, who has been making a strong impression on rappers like Eminem, J. Cole, and many bar-focused emcees.

So much so that Kiss recently seized an opportunity upon meeting Naomi Osaka, sharing a few words for the Tennis star and her rapper boyfriend at a recent event.

“You’re incredible, I love you,” says Kiss, as he passes by Osaka. “Tell Cordae he gotta get one with Kiss for my bucket list.” Osaka laughs, thanking the rapper as he leaves — though many have speculated that, judging entirely her demeanor and body language – that she really had no idea who Kiss even was.

Given his noted status as a hip-hop head, expect Cordae to seize the opportunity and do his part to make the collaboration happen. After all, he’s still putting in work on his upcoming album From A Bird’s Eye View, and some Jadakiss vocals are always welcome. Keep an eye out for future developments on his front — would you like to see Cordae and Jada link up on wax?

Dez Bryant Blasted On Twitter After Comments On Colin Kaepernick

The I Am Athlete podcast has given us some of the most wild statements over the past year and has spurred some of the most wild discussions.

From Chad Johnson/Ochocinco’s all-McDonald’s diet to Cam Newton’s explanation of Bill Belichick’s “Patriot Way,” I Am Athlete, which features Marshall, Johnson, Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder, is a great forum and opportunity for four former-NFL players to speak their minds and interact with guests.

Sometimes that speaking of the mind results in extreme backlash, however, and after guest and free agent wide receiver Dez Bryant went on a mini-rant about former NFL quarterback and current activist, Colin Kaepernick.

Bryant, who asserted that he respects Kaepernick, had this to say.

“I said it when I get the opportunity, and to get on the stage and say it I would and I love him to death. So it ain’t no hate or nothing like that,” Bryant started. “But brother you had the biggest opportunity in the world to create jobs, build jobs give jobs to people … the people that you was talking about, the people you so-called standing up for, the people who stood beside you, the people who lost their jobs because of you. Where you at? I ain’t heard from you.”

According to Bryant, Kaepernick, who launched the Know Your Rights Camp and has donated over a million dollars to funds aimed at educating and bettering the lives of Black Americansdidn’t do enough for the “people who stood beside (him)” and the people who he was “so-called standing up for.”

Twitter did not take kindly to Bryant’s statements.

From Jemele Hill to thousands of other users, the message was clear: Bryant did not know what he was talking about.

Bryant responded to Hill, saying he had reached out to Kaepernick and received no response.

But the backlash was fierce and tweets keep piling up, mostly responding to Bryant in a way that is sure to let him know to do his research.

What did you think of Bryant’s appearance on I Am Athlete and his remarks on Colin Kaepernick? Let us know in the comments.

Sonos Is Adding An Erykah Badu-Curated Station Called ‘Badubotron Radio’ To Their Radio Offerings

Erykah Badu has been a legendary force in the music industry for a few decades now, so it’s no surprise that the ultra-hip speakers brand Sonos wanted to partner with the artist. In a new initiative that includes 20 additional stations and shows, Sonos has announced Badu will have her own artist-curated station called Badubotron Radio. According to a press release, Badubotron will “celebrate her 2021 live tour with tracks to help you unwind and expand your mind — from reggae lulla-vibes to induce relaxation to experimental R&B promoting exploration of the mind, body and soul.”

Further description of the station from the brand references all the psychedelic vibes that a Badu-curated mix is going to include: “Erykah Badu’s Badubotron Radio blasts off as Badu takes you outta this world and into her sonic orbit. A space where music genres are stars and the galaxy is filled with psychedelic funk, retro soul, classic rock, spiritual jazz and experimental hip hop. A trip to Badu’s curated station will take your mind exactly where it needs to go.”

For her part, Badu gave a very typical-of-her answer. “WELL Listeners can expect whatever they please,” she began. “I just want them to feel something. Something new, something good, something unfamiliar, something triggering, something that inspires them to peace… Or war, or whatever they may need. Music makes me feel soooo great. There are billions and trillions of atomic memories in these notes. I curated this station especially for me… WITH you In mind, of course. I’m grateful. Push up the faderrrrrrrrrrrrr.”

Yeah, this is going to be good. The station will be debuting sometime in October. As usual, the Sonos Radio offerings are only available on Sonos speakers. If you’re a massive Badu fan and want to find your way in, check out the options here.

Kanye West Removed Chris Brown From ‘Donda’ On An Updated Version Of The Album

Kanye West is (in)famous for making changes to his albums after they have been released, and Donda seemed especially prone to that given that West claimed his label released the project without his approval. Now, West has indeed made alterations to Donda, some of which are significant, including the removal of Chris Brown from the album.

Users in the r/hiphopheads subreddit noted that two versions of Donda appeared on streaming platforms, one being the original version and the other being the altered edition. Now, though, it appears only one version of Donda remains. As for the changes, fans noted that Brown’s vocals on “New Again” were replaced by new ones from West and the Sunday Service Choir. Meanwhile, on “Keep My Spirit Alive,” a new hook from West also replaces the original from KayCyy. Beyond that, there are some more subtle mixing changes throughout the album.

Brown is of course a controversial figure given his various legal and personal issues over the years, but it’s not clear if that was part of why West removed him from the album or if other factors were in play. West has yet to offer a public statement about what compelled him to make these new Donda alterations.
