Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy Receives Short-Lived Twitter Ban

Dave Portnoy is one of the largest voices in sports media as he is the founder and owner of Barstool Sports. The Barstool empire has grown quite a bit over the last decade and while many hate Portnoy for his antics, there is no denying that he is a big name in the sports world. Portnoy is most active on Twitter, where he can be seen interacting with fans and also clapping back on his haters.

On Friday, after telling a hater “Let me drop my nuts on your head,” Portnoy was suspended from Twitter and it sparked outrage amongst Barstool fans. “#FreePortnoy” began to trend on Twitter and for a few hours, there seemed to be nothing but radio silence. Eventually, however, Twitter rescinded the suspension and Portnoy made his presence felt as he tweeted “I’m Back.”

While speaking to Fox News, Portnoy said “The will of the people will be heard” and in the end, he was correct. Portnoy has gotten in hot water for his comments in the past, although a Twitter suspension seemed to be quite harsh considering he was just engaging in some trolling.

Regardless, Portnoy is back on Twitter now, much to the delight of Barstool fans everywhere. Whether or not he will be able to keep his nose clean, is another story.

Boslen & Charmaine Unite On “Quartz”

Boslen is one of the freshest new emcees in the Vancouver rap game. Known for his distinct alt-hip hop sound, he’s quickly made a name for himself ahead of the release of his forthcoming debut project DUSK to DAWN due later this year.

The Vancouver rapper links up with Zimbabwe-born emcee Charmaine. “”QUARTZ” is built on an aggressive rhythm. It’s one of my best flows. Charmaine and I let loose and this song bridges the gap between Toronto and Vancouver’s music scene,” said Boslen of the new track.

Produced by justsayin, Stoopid Lou, and Dalton, the latest offering from the rising star shows off his genre-bending skills. The fierce song features a menacing beat with a heavy bassline, which Boslen uses to his advantage. Charmaine slides in during the latter half of the song to deliver the track’s final verse.

“QUARTZ” follows the release of “DENY” and “TRIP,” which are all expected to appear on hit debut project DUSK to DAWN. The project will be his first new project since his 2019 EP Black Lotus.

Check out “QUARTZ” below and let us know your thoughts down in the comments.

Wiz Khalifa Will Star As George Clinton In “Spinning Gold”

Spinning Gold film, a biopic centered around the life of famed record producer Neil Bogart, has been in development for quite some time now. For those who don’t know much about Bogart, he is often credited with discovering musical acts such as Kiss, Donna Summer, Gladys Knight and the Pips, and many more.

It has certainly been a lengthy development process. News of Spinning Gold was announced as early as 2011, but as of June 2021, the movie remains in development. That’s not to say there haven’t been updates, however. The latest casting news was released on Friday, June 18, per Deadline. It was previously reported that Samuel L. Jackson was slated to play the late funk icon, George Clinton. However, for unknown reasons, Clinton will now be played by Wiz Khalifa, in what’s looking like his biggest role to date.

Khalifa is just one of many actors and musicians on the cast of Spinning Gold. Jeremy Jordan is set to play Bogart, while Jay Pharoah, Michelle Monaghan, Jason Isaacs, Jason Derulo, Sebastian Maniscalco, Dan Fogler, Chris Redd, Peyton List, Pink Sweat$, Casey Likes, Sam Harris, Alex Gaskarth, Jimmy Wolk, Michael Ian Black, and Vinnie Pastore will also star in the film.

Appropriate given the film’s emphasis on the music industry, the soundtrack is lined with artists — including Wiz Khalifa, Jason Derulo, Pink Sweat$, and more. They will be performing covers of songs made famous by The Isley Brothers, Parliament, Bill Withers, as well as other artists associated with Neil Bogart’s legacy. Production on Spinning Gold is set to begin this month in New Jersey. A release date has not been announced yet.

Eminem’s “8 Mile” Battle Rap Opponent Banned From Iowa

Rapper Gerald “Strike” Sanders is probably best known for his appearance in 8 Mile where he battled Eminem’s character B-Rabbit  but he’s, unfortunately, making headlines this week after a legal battle with the state of Iowa. According to Des Moines Register, Strike has officially been banned from doing business in the state of Iowa on accusations of fraud.

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller speaks at a news conference. (Alex Wong/Getty Images )

Sanders is said to have run an organization in Iowa where kids from the inner-city community were hired to go door-to-door to sell merchandise, from magazines to clothes. Miller claims that Sanders would make his employees falsely tell customers that the money generated from these sales would go towards a local charity. Sanders denied the allegations against him.

“What’s important to know is that I did not send people into the neighborhood to defraud people,” he said.

Regardless, Sanders agreed to Millers’ terms in order to avoid penalization. In the settlement, Sanders’ company Inner City Solutions would shut down shop in the state of Iowa. AG Miller claimed that Inner City Solutions did not register as a fundraiser, failed to obtain a sales license for door-to-door operations, and did not present customers information on their rights to cancel their purchase within three days.

“This agreement puts a stop to Inner City Solutions’ business in Iowa and ends the company’s claims it raises funds for local charities close to the hearts of many Iowans,” Miller said.

In response, Sanders said he was boxed into a corner and suggested that their agreement was blackmail. “We could go after you for these crazy amounts, but if you sign this paper saying you’ll never come back to Iowa we’ll leave it alone,” Sanders said of what officials told him.

Though Sanders does have to shut down his operation in Iowa, he will avoid any fines or penalties related to the allegations made against him and his business.

Kamasi Washington’s Hopeful Epic, ‘Sun Kissed Child,’ Is Part Of The ‘Music For The Movement’ Series

Kamasi Washington has been racking up accolades for his psychedelic jazz-fusion for quite some time now, and his 2018 epic Heaven And Earth was the last formal release fans have gotten from the epic jazz powerhouse. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been releasing one-off tracks and special projects in the meantime, like scoring Michelle Obama’s Becoming documentary, teaming with the likes of Terrace Martin and Denzel Curry to release the protest song, “Pig Feet,” and even forming the new band, Dinner Party, with 9th Wonder, Robert Glasper, and Martini.

Today he’s back with some more music of his own, though, sharing a hopeful new track off the Liberated EP that’s part of The Undefeated’s Music For the Movement series. This is volume 3 of that project, and includes contributions from other artists like Chloe Bailey, Common and Cordae, while artists like Tinashe have contributed to the project before. For Kamasi’s newest track, “Sun Kissed Child,” he had contributions from plenty of fellow artists, including vocalists Dwight Trible and Patrice Quinn, as well as drummer Ronald Bruner Jr., who is the older brother of Thundercat.

Hear the new song above and look out for more new music and hopefully more live performances coming from Kamasi very soon.

DJ Khaled Expresses Jubilation Over Hollywood Walk Of Fame Honor

DJ Khaled is one of the biggest stars in the hip-hop world as his production and curating efforts have turned him into one of the best-selling artists out there. He has delivered a ton of chart-topping albums throughout his career and there is no doubt that he is a recognizable face that transcends just rap. With this in mind, it only makes sense that Khaled would receive a massive honor like a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

In fact, just this past week, it was revealed that Khaled would join Nipsey Hussle, Michael B Jordan, Michael Strahan, Ashanti, and many others in the 2022 Walk of Fame class. Now, Khaled will be immortalized with a star on the infamous Walk of Fame and as you can see in the video clip below, he couldn’t be any more excited.

With Khaled’s star going up next year, we’re sure he will be there when it is officially revealed to the world. Khaled has always been one to celebrate the fruits of his labor, and there is no doubt that this honor is a well-deserved one.

Saweetie Scores Another Platinum Single With “Best Friend” Ft. Doja Cat

Saweetie’s collaboration with Doja Cat, “Best Friend”, took radio and TikTok by storm, and now, the hard work is coming back to her tenfold. The track, which currently has over 200 million streams on Spotify, was certified platinum this past week, five months after its release. This victory adds momentum to the rollout of her debut album Pretty Bitch Music, which is said to be on the horizon after a June 25th release date was postponed, per HipHopDX.

“Best Friend” marks Saweetie’s fourth career platinum certification. The first of which came with 2019’s “ICY GRL”, quickly followed by “My Type” and then, “Tap In.” Both “Best Friend” and “Tap In” benefitted from a handful of successful remixes with other prominent rappers. UK’s Stefflon Don was later added to “Best Friend” while the remix for “Tap In” boasted some heavyweight names including DaBaby, Post Malone, and Jack Harlow. The tracks are set to be included in Pretty Bitch Music, which will be released under Warner Records.

Pretty Bitch Music will follow Saweetie’s Pretty Summer Playlist: Season 1 which released in mid-April. The EP was meant to hold fans over until the release of her official debut album.

Saweetie’s latest W comes after a tumultuous year that included her and Quavo’s highly-publicized breakup. Once considered the rap game’s most beloved couple, the couple announced their split in March. Shortly after, Saweetie explained in a series of tweets that she had endured “too much betrayal” and accused Quavo of being intimate with other women.

Saweetie just recently hosted a masterclass on content creation through Complexland this past week.
