Madonna Reacts To Lil Nas X’s Onstage Kiss At The BET Awards: ‘Did It First’

There were a number of big performances at this year’s BET Awards, some of which proved to be among the biggest moments from the show. One of them included Lil Nas X’s steamy performance of “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” in which the singer concluded his set by kissing one of his male backup dancers in a moment that became far more controversial than it should have.

The kiss received a number of reactions, the latest coming from Madonna, who took to her Instagram Story to briefly share her thoughts. She posted an image of Lil Nas’ onstage kiss above another picture of her own famous kiss with Christina Aguilera at the 2003 MTV VMAs. She captioned it: “#diditfirst.” It’s fairly obvious that Lil Nas was influenced by that 2003 moment, so hopefully Madonna’s intent behind the post was not slight on the singer.

Madonna’s post comes after Lil Nas shared his own reaction to those who were not too happy with Sunday night’s kiss. “Since y’all still doing all this over a kiss imma just f*ck the n**** on stage next time,” he tweeted on Tuesday.

Future & Eliza Reign Head To Court This Summer Over Child Support: Report

The ongoing legal dispute involving Future and the mother of his daughter, Eliza Reign, is reportedly set to go to trial. The pair have been engaged in a bitter child support case where the pair have exchanged a slew of accusations, and after Future was legally declared the father of two-year-old Reign, Eliza demanded that he shares financial responsibility.

According to Radar Online, they’ve viewed court documents that show the two parents will reconvene in Florida on August 26. In 2018, a pregnant Eliza surfaced with accusations that the rapper was the father of her child, but after giving birth in April 2019, Future still hadn’t publicly accepted that the little girl was his.

Eliza sued Future and reportedly stated in documents that she wanted $53K per month in child support, however, he didn’t agree. After Future allegedly stated that Eliza was using him and her child for a money-grab and later, he returned the favor and sued her, albeit for defamation. Future alleged that due to her public remarks about him, she was “ruining his reputation.” His case was reportedly tossed out after paternity results returned.

The rapper has agreed to pay $1K per month, but a judge increased that to $3,200. However, Eliza wasn’t satisfied with either number and her attorneys have been petitioning the court to receive an in-depth analysis of Future’s finances—including documentation showing his agreements with all of the mothers of his reported other seven children.

Around the time that Eliza was first making her claims about Future, a woman named Cindy Parker also stated that Future was the father of her young son, Legend Wilburn. She reportedly attempted to take Future to court, as well, but she mysteriously vanished and never said a word about him again. It is alleged that she, like many of the other mothers of the rapper’s children, made an agreement out of court that included not speaking publicly about Future.

N.O.R.E. Claims People Still Haven’t Forgiven Beanie Sigel For Dissing Jay-Z

More Verzuz debates are being had and this time, it’s over on The Breakfast Club. He wasn’t able to make it into the studio, but N.O.R.E. called in and discussed the possibility of him doing a Verzuz with Philly icon Beanie Sigel. We’re fresh off of the Bow Wow and Soulja Boy matchup last weekend and preparing for the Keith Sweat and Bobby Brown pairing on Thursday (July 1), so it’s clear that Verzuz is causing a shift in discussions regarding talent and hitmakers in the industry.

Noreaga praised Sigel but said, “I have never had a show with Beanie Sigel where I opened up, Beanie Sigel has always been my opener.” The Breakfast Club hosts raised their eyebrows and Charlamagne Tha God even chimed in saying, “This is so disrespectful.”

“Dame Dash and Memphis Bleek had the biggest argument in the world on a private plane coming from London because I washed Memphis Bleek on stage,” he added. N.O.R.E. added that he’s “playing around” and said he has “respect for Beanie.”

“I don’t want my competition to be a sucker!’ said the rapper. The Drink Champs host also said as much as people love the OGs of the Hip Hop culture and talk fondly about Rap in the 1990s, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland haven’t called about setting something up. “I’m good without the battle. If me and Beans don’t battle, where does Beans go from there? That’s what he needs to start thinking about… [People] haven’t talked about Beans in years.”

He reiterated that much of what he’s saying is just jokes, but he mentioned that this should be a lesson in loyalty for the Philly rapper. “A lot of people still don’t forgive Beans for dissing a god of Hip Hop, let’s just be clear,” said Noreaga. “He made five, six records dissing the god, he should have made five, six records apologizing.”

Serena Williams Tearfully Exits Wimbledon After Suffering Leg Injury: Report

It was a sorrowful moment for Serena Williams earlier today (June 29) when she hurt herself just 34-minutes into her Wimbledon match. Days ago, the tennis icon shared that she wouldn’t be making a bid for the Tokyo Olympics, a move that disappointed fans. “I’m actually not on the Olympic list, not that I’m aware of. If so, then I shouldn’t be on it,” she said, adding that she has her reasonings for sitting this one out and would possibly share them at a later time.

However, there were big plans for Williams at Wimbledon as she was in active pursuit of her 24th Grand Slam title. Sadly, a slip on the Centre Court grass would prove to be painful for her right leg, resulting in an injury that took the 39-year-old out of the competition altogether.

The moment was captured by cameras as Williams fell to the ground in tears after realizing she was barely able to complete basic movements. Later, she shared a gracious post regarding her Wimbledon exit along with a photo of herself on the court.

“I was heartbroken to have to withdraw today after injuring my right leg,” she wrote. “My love and gratitude are with the fans and the team who make being on centre court so meaningful. Feeling the extraordinary warmth and support of the crowd today when I walked on – and off – the court meant the world to me.”

Mase Says BET Awards Are Not “For The Betterment Of Black People”

For years, BET has faced criticism over its content. Whether it be their reality television shows or music videos, BET has faced accusations of pulling the culture backward instead of pushing it forward in a positive direction. Changes were made and moves have been taken to reclaim and revamp that narrative, and in recent years, there has been a shift in the network.

The BET Awards is still coveted within the Black community and we recently celebrated the latest ceremony applauding Hip Hop and Black culture, but not everyone believed that the show was edifying.

Former Bad Boy artist Mase has often taken to social media to share his thoughts about Rap and Hip Hop culture, and earlier today (June 29), he had a bit to say about the BET Awards. He claims it’s “not For The Betterment of Black People Anymore” and stood on his assertion in the caption of his post.

“I said what I said #Day16 of #21Days of speaking my mind #GOD #MASE Headsup @rsvpmase is going to be a problem!” There were plenty of people who agreed with him, many pointing out controversial moments including Lil Nas X’s much-talked-about kiss at the end of his performance. Check out Mase’s post below and let us know if you agree or disagree with his latest take.

The Weeknd Will Star In The Upcoming HBO Series, ‘The Idol,’ Co-Created By The Mind Behind ‘Euphoria’

After an impressive year run that concluded with his sixth album, After Hours, The Weeknd will now bring his talents to the small screen. According to Variety, the singer will star in the upcoming HBO series The Idol, which is about a female pop singer who falls in love with an L.A. club owner who also leads a secret cult. The singer will also co-write and a co-executive produce the series alongside Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson, with all the three being labeled as co-creators.

Joseph Epstein will also write and executive produce on the show in addition to acting as showrunner. Levinson is also responsible for HBO’s hit series Euphoria, which landed a number of Emmy nominations, one of which was given to Zendaya for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

This is far from the first time that The Weeknd has found himself on television . In 2020, he appeared as himself in an American Dad episode, titled “A Starboy is Born,” that we also co-wrote. He also played himself on the big screen, in the 2019 film, Uncut Gems.

On the music side of things, The Weeknd recently joined Doja Cat in a video for their first-ever collaboration “You Right.”

Nipsey Hussle’s Accused Killer Eric Holder’s Lawyer Speaks Of His “Mental Health History”

The man accused of murdering Nipsey Hussle back in 2019 will finally face a judge and during trial. We previously reported on the multiple delays facing Eric Holder’s case, much of which was due to the COVID-19 quarantine, but the New York Daily News stated in a new report that Holder’s trial is tentatively set to begin this December.

On Tuesday (June 29), Holder’s public defender, Aaron Jansen, appeared in court on behalf of his client who didn’t show face in the courtroom. While he was at the courthouse, it’s reported that Holder didn’t appear because his lawyer didn’t want him filmed by television camera crews walking in handcuffs. “I did not want him portrayed in a way that would be prejudicial to him,” said Jansen.

Holder is charged with one count of murder for the death of Nipsey Hussle and two counts of attempted murder for the other surviving victims who were shot during the incident. Authorities claimed two different guns were used in the crime, both allegedly by Holder. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

“He does have a significant mental health history,” Jansen reportedly said of his client. “One of the things affecting him [in March 2019] was that his mother had just passed away. He was pretty despondent.” However, Jansen claimed Holder is “in good spirits.” Jansen added, “He wants me to send him some books. He’s so isolated [in custody]. He doesn’t get out of his cell much, only one day a week for a few hours to play basketball alone.”

Holder is being held on a $6.5 million bond but Jansen doesn’t believe that his client is a flight risk. During the grand jury testimony, witnesses claimed Holder engaged in a four-minute conversation with Nipsey where the rapper allegedly said something about him “snitching.” Prosecutors claim Holder left the location, went and ate food, then returned to the Marathon Store and opened fire.

Prior to being represented by Jansen, Holder’s attorney was Christopher Darden, the lawyer involved in the infamous O.J. Simpson trial back in the 1990s. Darden later recused himself following threats being made to his family and is reportedly now defending one of the suspects accused of killing Pop Smoke.

Jazmine Sullivan Hits Up Megan Thee Stallion For Collab: “Let’s Do A Songggg”

Shooting your shot online has worked wonders in the industry as artists often take to social media to publicly ask their fellow creatives to collaborate. It certainly isn’t unfamiliar in the Rap game, and just days ago, we saw DaBaby ask how he can go about getting Jay-Z on a track. While he does his best to link up with Hov, Jazmine Sullivan followed suit and took a chance at asking Megan Thee Stallion if she’d be open to making magic in the studio.

Over on Instagram, Megan shared a photo of herself all dolled up with the caption, “Money meg [flying cash emoji].” Sullivan wasted no time.

“MEG LETS DO A SONGGGG,” she said. However, she joking threw in some conditions. “I can’t dance, my knees are bad but I can sing sometimes! Lessgo where my old knee heauxs at?? [hands raised emoji].” Fans are debating the possibility of this collaboration, but the overwhelming majority have co-signed Sullivan’s request.

Both Megan and Jazmine took to the 2021 BET Awards sage last weekend, with Sullivan appearing alongside Ari Lennox. Thee Stallion made a splash with her track “Thot Sh*t” while also capturing attention during DJ Khaled’s stream of hitmakers sharing the stage with him. Check out Jazmine Sullivan’s plea to Megan Thee Stallion below along with her BET Awards performance.

Ariana Grande Will Give Away $1 Million Worth Of Therapy To Fans In Partnership With Better Help

A number of artists have advocated for mental health awareness. Ariana Grande is among them. Back in May in an Instagram post about Mental Health Awareness Month, the singer shared her goal of “ending the stigma around mental health and normalizing asking for help.” Now she’s taking the steps to help with a brand new partnership.

Grande is teaming up with the mental health organization, Better Help, to give away $1 million in therapy. The partnership will pair people seeking therapy with a licensed therapist. Those who sign up will receive one month of free therapy with the option to renew it with a discount of 15 percent for the second month.

“Thrilled to be working with @betterhelp to give away $1,000,000 of free therapy,” Grande wrote in an Instagram post. “While acknowledging that therapy should not be for a privileged few but something everyone has access to, and acknowledging that this doesn’t fix that issue in the long run, i really wanted to do this anyway in hopes of inspiring you to dip a toe in, to feel okay asking for help, and to hopefully rid your minds of any sort of self judgement in doing so!”

She added that her hope is that the offer becomes a “helpful starting point” that allows people to “build space for this in your lives and continue.”
