Yung Miami Thinks Trina Would Win In A “Verzuz” Against Lil Kim

Perhaps the most noteworthy sensations to break out during the global COVID-19 pandemic was Verzuz, the hit-for-hit battle series that has featured some of the industry’s most legendary artists, songwriters, and producers. Early iterations of Timbaland and Swizz Beatz’ brainchild saw acts like The-Dream, Sean Garret, Ne-Yo, Johntá Austin, Babyface, and Teddy Riley go head-to-head over Instagram live, and as Verzuz has progressed, it has become a beloved reccuring event and cultural celebration. Having just brought Verzuz to Triller and announced a mysterious new line-up of events, fans are thirsting for whatever Timbaland and Swizz Beatz have in store.

Apart from unearthing its forthcoming events such as “The Isley Brothers V. Earth, Wind, & Fire,” “Redman V. Method Man,” and “Xscape V. SWV,” much of Verzuz‘s upcoming line-up is still a mystery. Many fans have theorized that the highly-anticipated “Ladies Night” will feature a showdown between Trina and Lil Kim, but a recently surfaced interview with the former would definitely suggest otherwise. While talking to DJ Scream for Hoodrich Radio, Trina confirmed that she would love to opportunity to go against Lil Kim in a Verzuz, but she also revealed that nobody from the platform has reached out to her.

Nevertheless, that hasn’t stopped fans from imagining how great a matchup between the two legendary femcees would be. As it turns out, even Yung Miami would love to see it happen.

After a user tweeted, “I need this Lil Kim vs. Trina Verzuz,” Yung Miami quoted the initial tweet and agreed with the fan, saying, “Me tooooo I love Kim to death but I gotta go with Trina.” Seeing that Yung Miami is from the same city as Trina, it makes sense that the City Girls rapper would undoubtedly side with the Baddest B*tch if she was ever to hop on Verzuz for a showdown with Lil Kim.

Who do you think would win in that matchup?

Meyers Leonard Waived By Thunder Following Racist Incident

Meyers Leonard was the subject at the top of everyone’s mind just a couple of weeks ago after he used an anti-semitic slur while playing video games on Twitch. The incident was streamed to a wide audience and as things typically do, it went viral on social media. This had many NBA fans upset and it was becoming clear that Leonard’s career would be in jeopardy, moving forward.

Following the incident, the Heat traded Leonard to the Oklahoma City Thunder and today, the Thunder decided to waive him. This means Leonard no longer has a team, and it’s not looking good when it comes to whether or not a new team will decide to come out and pick him back up.

It’s a hard road back from these kinds of transgressions and it remains to be seen whether or not an NBA team will want to give him a second chance. Leonard isn’t a superstar by any stretch, which means teams are going to be even less forgiving. It’s a harsh reality although he should have thought about that before screaming a racial slur for millions of people to see and hear.

Be sure to stay tuned to HNHH as we will continue to bring you all of the latest basketball news from around the NBA.

JID Kicks Off A Random Acts Of Kindness Campaign By Giving A Fan A Car

Coming off the successful release of Spillage Village’s Spilligion and working on his follow-up to 2018’s DiCaprio 2, Atlanta rapper JID took time out to help a local fan who was going through some recent hardships and put out a call for more members of the community to assist.

Rosalee Thomas lost her job and health insurance during the pandemic but then, to make matters worse, her car was also totaled. JID partnered with Seattle-based pizza chain MOD Pizza to drop off a new car to Thomas as the opening act of their “Random Acts of MODness” campaign. After the video of the gift went live, JID himself went on Twitter to offer “three wishes” to more fans in need.

One responder was a first-generation student who needed help paying for school, while another was an ICU nurse at the VA hospital in Temple, Texas. Finally, JID selected a second-grade teacher to receive school supplies and library books for her students. In a press release promoting the campaign, JID explained, “It’s been a tough year and we know folks are struggling. So, I’m excited to partner with MOD to spread some love in our local communities.”

In addition to recording his long-awaited third album, JID also released a handful of new songs and freestyles this year, including “Cludder Freestyle,” “JIDtranada Freestyle,” and “Skegee.”

Big Sean Shares A ‘Lucky Me/Still I Rise’ Live Performance To Celebrate His Birthday

Today, Big Sean celebrates his 33rd birthday — one that he almost didn’t get to see. To commemorate the occasion, he’s shared a video of a special live performance of his Detroit 2 tracks “Lucky Me” and “Still I Rise,” highlighting just how fortunate he feels to hit his Scottie Pippen year.

Prior to his last album’s release, Sean was very open about sharing his struggles with mental health, admitting that he’d contemplated suicide as a result of depression and anxiety. Meanwhile, on “Lucky Me,” he raps about the heart condition he experienced as a teen that nearly killed him. Although doctors suggested putting in a pacemaker to keep things moving along, his mother’s insistence on trying alternative medicine led to an unconventional cure.

Sean recently repaid his mom for going above and beyond for him by introducing her to Seán Schemmel, the voice actor who portrays the Dragon Ball Z hero Goku. The two Seans spent some time hanging out, with Schemmel posting pics from Big Sean’s in-house studio and explaining that kids like the younger Sean were the inspiration behind his performance.

Incidentally, it was on his 32nd birthday last year that Sean announced the impending release of Detroit 2, the follow-up to his fan-favorite 2012 mixtape that featured breakout songs like “Mula” and “24 Karats Of Gold” with J. Cole. Two weeks ago, he announced that the tape would finally make its way to DSPs, mixed and mastered. Here’s hoping all the samples were cleared as well.

Justin LaBoy Talks Saweetie & Quavo Break-Up & Allegations His Interview Caused It

This morning, Justin LaBoy stopped by the Breakfast Club to discuss a number of topics with Charlamagne, DJ Envy, and Angela Yee. The social media star recently debuted a new show with fellow Justin, Justin Combs. The two have already interviewed a handful of guests, including Saweetie– an interview which many cited as the reason for her breakup from Quavo

On the show, LaBoy asked the “Tap In” rapper if she would be willing to have a threesome. To which the Icy Girl replied, to the surprise of many, “And because he doin’ everything right, I’m gonna give him the honor of pickin’ the n*gga we havin’ a threesome with.”

Not even a minute into the Breakfast Club interview, Charlamagne asked LaBoy the question that’s been on everyone’s mind ever since Saweetie’s answer went viral.

“You ended Saweetie and Quavo’s relationship. Do you feel bad about that Justin?” Charlamagne asked.

“I didn’t do that. I showed up to work. I did what they paid me to do. And you know, she said what she said. But I think it probably been over before then honestly,” LaBoy replied.

LaBoy’s comment coincides with a tweet from Saweetie in which she reveals that Quavo’s stepping out is the reason they are broken up, not her comment on the show.

Charlamagne continues to stir up the breakup drama by telling LaBoy, “It felt like you was really trying to ruin Saweetie and Quavo’s relationship in that interview though. You was really kind of simpin for Saweetie a little bit.. Respectfully.”

After laughing and calling Charlamagne crazy, LaBoy admits that he was a fan of the former hip-hop power couple.

“I didn’t even know they was going through that,” LaBoy answered. “When she gave certain answers I just thought she was just answering for women who felt how she felt. I didn’t even think that would go like that. Quavo and Saweetie was actually dope.”

Justin also discusses his time playing basketball overseas, “Demon Time,” opening nightclubs, and more with the Breakfast Club trio.

Boosie Doubles Down On Why Lori Harvey Isn’t “Goals”

Boosie Badazz’s mouth gets him in trouble all the time. The rap icon is known to speak his mind at all times, regardless of whether what he’s saying is hurtful or not. The Baton Rouge native has made headlines because of his misogynistic comments about Lori Harvey, his transphobic comments about Zaya Wade, and much more. Over the years, people have learned to expect controversy from Boosie.

During the latest episode of Respectfully Justin with Justin LaBoy and Justin Combs, Boosie spoke about sex, women, and more with the two social media stars. The topic went to his comments on VladTV about Lori Harvey, in which he said the model shouldn’t be considered “goals” to younger women. During that interview, Boosie said he would have sex with Lori but, because of her “body count”, he would never get married to her. Not like Lori was interested anyways… Despite her completely ignoring the topic, Boosie is back on it, speaking with both Justins about it.

At first, Boosie said he wasn’t comfortable approaching the situation because people were still mad at him about but he quickly changed his mind. “I was really trying to be respectful but you know my words come out f*cked up,” said Boosie. “I ain’t mean nothing by it but I say what I mean and I mean what I said.”

He continued, saying, “I don’t want a car after it had eight owners. I’m not gonna take it home and wash it the same. I’m not gonna love it the same. People was getting at me– in my world, we f*cking. […] Like I said, I wouldn’t wife her but I still would love to have fun with her. With a woman that beautiful… I don’t have no problem with what she’s doing. ‘Cause I still tend to women like that. I was just saying, the ‘goals’ part I was looking at that different.”

What do you think about Boosie’s latest comments? Check them out below on the full episode of Respectfully Justin.

Migos & Murda Beatz Have A “Culture 3” Cook-Up

This past week or so, Migos have really ramped up the momentum for their upcoming Culture 3, determined to make a statement with the final chapter of their long-running trilogy. Between snippets shared by Offseta post-breakup subliminal thrown by Quavo, and a request from Takeoff, all three members are also getting engaged in the promotional process in various ways. Suffice it to say, it’s feeling like we’re nearing the apex, and it wouldn’t be surprising to start seeing some official dates locked in soon enough.

Now, Murda Beatz has come through to toss a bit of gasoline on the fire, all but confirming that he’ll be involved with the project to some capacity. The Canadian producer took to Instagram to share a few pictures from a recent studio session, offering up the simple but telling caption of “CULTURE 3.” The pictures themselves showcase the gang focused in the studio, with one picture finding Murda, DJ Durel, and Quavo huddling around a computer.

It’s not the first time Murda has connected with The Migos, having previously laced the massive Culture 2 banger “Motor Sport,” the first and only collaboration between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. In addition, Murda also laced “Beast,” “Gang Gang,” and co-produced Culture’s “Get Right Witcha” with Zaytoven. Look for the group to strike gold once again on Culture 3 and beyond — lest we forget, Murda spent the final months of 2020 in the studio with Offset, Quavo, and Polo G, so keep an eye out for whatever ultimately comes of that collaboration.

Sesame Street Introduces New Black Muppets To Teach Kids About Race

Since the late 1960s, PBS’ Sesame Street has been on the air, educating generation after generation of children through the use of beloved muppets like Elmo, Big Bird, and Oscar The Grouch. Over the years, the show has developed and addressed several pressing cultural events and phenome such as inclusivity, diversity, and homelessness. Now, the beloved educational children’s program is focusing on racial literacy in its new special The ABC’s of Racial Literacy, which features the debut of two new Black muppets.

Named Elijah and Wes, the Black father-son duo is the latest addition to Sesame Street’s growing group of residents, and in the show’s latest special, they are tasked with teaching children about racial literacy. According to Complex, the episode features Elmo asking Wes and Elijah why their skin is brown, which prompts the two new Muppets to then explain what melanin is as well as the details of races.

In a statement, Sesame Workshop’s Senior Vice President Dr. Jeanette Betancourt reportedly says, “We look at every issue through the lens of a child. Children are not colorblind — not only do they first notice differences in race in infancy, but they also start forming their own sense of identity at a very young age.”

Dr. Betancourt continues, saying, “By encouraging these much-needed conversations through Coming Together, we can help children build a positive sense of identity and value the identities of others.”

With such a popular children’s program addressing racial sensitivity, it will be interesting to see how future generations comprehend racial literacy.

Kamiyada+ Gets Futuristic With His ‘Blade Runner’ Performance For ‘Uproxx Sessions’

For all its reputation as a cult classic vision of a dystopian potential future (one you could arguably say we’re already living in, minus the flying cars), the film Blade Runner is actually pretty slow, with a deliberate, drawn-out pace that belies the excitement with which its biggest fans talk about it.

However, “Blade Runner,” the song performed by boundary-pushing Washington DC rapper Kamiyada+ in his UPROXX Sessions debut, is nothing of the sort. Despite a glitchy sample loop meant to sound like the electronic, synth-riddled soundtrack of the film and a cyberpunk-styled fashion sense, Kamiyada’s track is anything but slow. Instead, it’s a propulsive, aggressive song, highlighted by his gritty, yell-rap delivery and antisocial subject matter.

Kamiyada is just four months removed from his last full-length release, December’s DEATHTRAP+++2, the sequel to his 2018 original. Between the two releases, he also dropped two EPs, Live From Space, Vol. 2 in 2018, and A Traumatic Experience in 2019. Although he hasn’t announced a new project for this year, he did release the video for his latest single, “U Made The Devil Cry,” yesterday.

Watch Kamiyada’s aggressive performance of “Blade Runner” above.

UPROXX Sessions is Uproxx’s performance show featuring the hottest up-and-coming acts you should keep an eye on. Featuring creative direction from LA promotion collective, Ham On Everything, and taking place on our “bathroom” set designed and painted by Julian Gross, UPROXX Sessions is a showcase of some of our favorite performers, who just might soon be yours, too.
