It Was A Good Day is an Ice Cube classic. Released as a single in February 1993 and later featured on The Predator, it charted at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also topped the Billboard Hot Rap Songs and finished at #78 on the year-end Billboard Hot 100. The song sees Ice Cube talking about an uncharacteristically good day in LA.
One of the most memorable parts of the song is Ice Cube talking about playing a game of basketball with some friends. “Called up the homies, and I’m askin’ y’all/ Which park, are y’all playin’ basketball?/ Get me on the court and I’m trouble/ Last week fucked around and got a triple-double/ Freakin’ n-ggas every way like MJ.” However, not everyone is apparently familiar with the song, as Ice Cube’s son was able to have a little fun with it on Twitter.
Ice Cube Trolled By His Son
O’Shea Jackson Jr. has followed in his father’s footsteps and is already putting together a strong acting resume. He starred as his father in 2015’s Straight Outta Compton. He has also appeared in 2017’s Ingrid Goes West, 2018’s Longshot, 2019’s Godzilla: King of Monsters, and 2023’s Cocaine Bear. Jackson also stars in Apple TV’s Kevin Durant-inspired Swagger and Disney+’s Kenobi. However, Jackson is also known for being an excellent Twitter troll. His pinned tweet currently reads “I’ve decided that I will randomly copy people’s tweets right under the original tweet. Just to cause chaos and confusion.” Truly iconic stuff.
On April 13, Jackson quote-tweeted user @feyiszn who had asked “tell us one thing about ur Dad.” (the tweet was not directed at Jackson, for clarification). Jackson’s perfect response read, “He once kept up with his statistics during a random pickup game with his friends. And he won’t stop telling people about it.” This, of course, is a call back to It Was A Good Day and Ice Cube’s bragging about his triple-double. It’s not the first time, It Was A Good Day has been in the news recently. In early March, Ice Cube called out Logic for a surprisingly intimate cover of the song.
