Kentrell Gaulden, better known as NBA YoungBoy, has become incredibly popular in the music industry. He has built his reputation with hit singles such as “Outside Today,” “No Smoke,” and “38 Baby,” despite facing many obstacles, legal and otherwise. YoungBoy often collaborates with other renowned artists in the field. His most recent collaborations were with Nicki Minaj and Mariah The Scientist. They appeared on his singles “WTF” and “Rear View,” respectively. The songs are part of his new album, Don’t Try This at Home, which was released today.
Although NBA Youngboy releases a ridiculous amount of material, he has been under house arrest since 2021. Despite this, the rapper is currently living a relatively peaceful life in Utah, where he has a recording studio at home. YoungBoy has been facing legal issues since he was arrested for federal gun charges several years ago, and he is working hard to regain his freedom. Sadly, he cannot make public appearances due to house arrest. However, he seems determined to promote his new album to the best of his abilities. He even dropped $200k on a release party he couldn’t attend.
YoungBoy, AKA Mr. Gaulden
NBA Youngboy’s new effort is an insane amount of content. A 33 song album would have been rare even 20 years ago, and it’s practically unheard of these days. However, when you are stuck at home as an artist, it makes sense that you would create as much as possible. YoungBoy is constantly releasing new material, so while it might not be the best time for him, he is making sure his fans are eating. The album has plenty of standouts, but one of the best of the extensive trackless is “What You Say,” which features Post Malone and The Kid LAROI. The dreamy sounding beat has an almost melancholy feeling to it. The talents of the three artist meld perfectly on top of the instrumental. Definitely one to save. Along with the audio, YoungBoy dropped a music video for the track.
NBA Youngboy is also about to achieve something pretty huge for an artist his age. The 23-year-old Baton Rouge native is on track to be the youngest rapper to have 100 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His first single, “Untouchable,” charted at number 95 in 2017. Since then, Youngboy has managed to chart 97 more times, either as a lead artist or a feature. The rapper would be in good company. Some of the other rappers to achieve this are Nicki Minaj, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Jay-Z. With YoungBoy’s new album now released, it would be almost impossible for him not to hit the new milestone. Quotable Lyrics:
I done made it out the storm
Check my bank, I made new commas
I can’t take no break, I’m way too young
I won’t count a baby down, oh
Pull up to this party, not for fun
Makin’ sure I stand, my money tall
Know that I look nice enough for someone
Freezer, I might leave it with lil’ shawty
