Missy Elliott left fans in awe on Instagram this morning after she debuted a slew of new photos. The Supa Dupa Fly rapper shared pics from a recent photo shoot that showed Missy getting her Vogue on. She served as the co-stylist for the shoot, which celebrated her Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame nomination. However, Missy’s fans had nothing but positive things to say about her drip. Many applauded the style she delivered in the shoot while others simply praised her beauty.
It’s been an overall big week for Missy. She became the first female rapper to be nominated for a Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction. The Rock Hall nominated two hip-hop acts this year, Missy and A Tribe Called Quest. She reacted to the news on Twitter with disbelief, thanking her fans and friends for their support throughout her journey.
“I’ve cried my eyes out,” she wrote on Twitter. “I’ve always dreamed big but to be nominated for this is bigger than I dreamed & I am so Humbly Grateful to @rockhall & to all my fans who helped me get here to please vote,” she added. In recent years, fans gave Missy her flowers for her contributions to the culture and pushing the boundaries. Even Lil Wayne said she’s his favorite rapper of all time.
In addition to the Rock Hall nomination, the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective honored Missy with the Global Impact Award. The collective awarded Missy, Lil Wayne and Dr. Dre with the accolade. She took the stage where she provided an incredibly moving speech. Missy thanked Epic Records CEO Sylvia Rhone for having faith in her talent rather than her looks.
“I was in a girl group and Sylvia Rhone dropped me, then signed me as a solo artist,” she said. “She saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself, she never told us no. She never told me, ‘You need to lose weight.’ She never told me, ‘You need to change your records.’” Afterward, Chlöe performed a rendition of Aaliyah’s “One In A Million.” Then, Tweet hit the stage where she delivered a rendition of their collaboration, “Oops (Oh My)” before Ciara performed “1 2 Step” and “Lose Control.”
