Killer Mike recently received some good news. The thought provoking rapper, whose real name is Michael Render, will not face charges following his arrest after the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Here’s how it played out. On June 26, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office announced they would not pursue criminal charges against the rapper.
“Mr. Render has successfully completed the Office’s Hearing process, including a community service requirement that was imposed,” a representative from the L.A. City Attorney’s Office told PEOPLE.
If you recall, in a bizarre moment, Killer Mike was arrested on February 4, hours after winning best rap song and best rap performance for “Scientists & Engineers” and best rap album for *Michael* during the pre-telecast ceremony.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Chris Gardner captured and shared video on X (formerly known as Twitter) of Killer Mike being detained by authorities. TMZ reported the incident stemmed from an “alleged physical confrontation.”
In a surreal moment, while being escorted from the Crypto.com Arena, someone in the footage was heard saying “Free Mike.” Initially, it was unclear if Killer Mike had been booked or charged. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that a man was detained for a physical altercation and transported to LAPD Central Division.
On February 6, Killer Mike issued a statement to PEOPLE, citing “confusion around which door my team and I should enter” and attributing the incident to an “over-zealous security guard.” He expressed confidence that he would be cleared of all wrongdoing and encouraged fans to continue supporting his music and pursuing their dreams.
