Doja Cat Named Songwriter Of The Year Despite “Mediocre Pop” Comment

Doja Cat has been causing controversy once again on social media. Recently, she shared unreleased song snippets on Instagram Live to promote her upcoming album. The new release finally has a confirmed title, which Doja revealed to be First of All. While online, the singer tweeted about her past albums, stating that Hot Pink and Planet HER were “cash grabs.” She also said that she could now disappear to an island while fans weep for “mediocre pop.”

Doja Cat has previously tweeted about her dislike for pop music, stating that it gets overplayed. She has also said that some of her rap verses are “mid and corny,” despite her enjoyment of making music. The singer believes her frustration with pop music may be due to its constant overexposure. Interestingly, she recently received an award for a billion spins on the radio.

Despite Doja Cat’s statement calling her last projects “mediocre pop,” she continues to receive recognition for her work. At the 2023 BMI Awards on May 9th, she was honored with the Songwriter of the Year award, adding to her list of achievements. Doja Cat received the award for co-writing six of her biggest hits from 2022. Among them were “Get Into It (Yuh),” “I Like You (A Happier Song),” “Need to Know,” “Vegas,” and “Woman.”Other notable award winners of the night include Khalid, Justin Bieber, and The Kid LAROI.

Doja has not reacted to receiving the award. Following her appearance at the Met Gala, however, she has shifted her focus to her upcoming album. She previously teased the album on social media with potential titles like the long-rumored Hellmouth. Though none of the songs have been released, the album may be out sooner than we think. Doja Cat was recently spotted filming a music video in Los Angeles, but it is unclear which song the visual will accompany. Stay tuned to HNHH for the latest updates on Doja Cat’s new album.
