Bad Bunny Dominated WWE Backlash 2023 And Has The Scars To Prove It

Bad Bunny turned heads in a Jacquemus backless blazer at the 2023 Met Gala last Monday, May 1, and his back was out again days later — but in much less pristine shape.

Bad Bunny was the star of WWE Backlash 2023 on Saturday, May 6, at Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He received an electric embrace from his home fans, as they sang along to his “Chambea” single from 2017, before entering the ring and delivering what Uproxx described as “one of the most entertaining matches in WWE this year.”

The following day, Bad Bunny shared his battle scars on his Instagram Story. His victory came at a price. He posted a photo of his bare back marked with bruises and scrapes.

In December, Bad Bunny graced the cover of Billboard and shared his plans for 2023 in the accompanying story.

“I’m taking a break. 2023 is for me, for my physical health, my emotional health to breathe, enjoy my achievements. We’re going to celebrate. Let’s go here, let’s go there, let’s go on the boat,” he told the publication. “I have a couple of sporadic commitments, and I’ll go to the studio, but there’s no pressure. Remember yourself, cabrón. You’ve worked your ass off.”

If the last five months have been what Benito considers “a break,” then the rest of us should be ashamed.

Bad Bunny opened the 2023 Grammys and won Best Música Urbana Album (Un Verano Sin Ti). He was one of James Corden’s final guests for “Carpool Karaoke,” and he was honored with the 2023 Vanguard Award at the 34th annual GLAAD Media Awards. The tabloids are committed to finding undeniable evidence that he’s dating Kendall Jenner, a rumor that was fueled as he headlined Coachella last month.

Bad Bunny Wins San Juan Street Fight At WWE Backlash

As well as being a beloved musician, Bad Bunny has recently gotten into the wild world of WWE. A lifelong fan of professional wrestling, Bad Bunny first appeared on the premier wrestling promotion in 2021. In February of that year, Bunny won the WWE 24/7 belt with the help of fellow Puerto Rican wrestler Damian Priest. Bad Bunny held the belt in non-stop promotion for 28 days before trading it to R-Truth for Stone Cold Steve Austin memorabilia.

Because his WWE 24/7 occurred backstage, Bad Bunny wouldn’t make his in-ring debut until Wrestlemania 37 in April. He teamed up with Priest to win a tag-team match against The Miz and John Morrison. He next stepped into the ring at Royal Rumble 2022, finishing fifth in the men’s event. Later that year, Bad Bunny was announced as a pre-order bonus for the wrestling video game WWE 2k23.

Bad Bunny Outlasts Damian Priest

A big ring moment has been in the works for Bad Bunny for some time. At Wrestlemania 39, Bunny abandoned his role as a Spanish-language announcer to intervene in the match between Rey and Dominik Mysterio. Two nights later, while attending Monday Night Raw, Bunny was attacked ringside by former tag-team partner Damian Priest. Priest, now partnering with Dominik Mysterio, was getting payback from Bunny’s intervention. On April 24, Bunny attacked Priest on Raw with a kendo stick. With Priest at his feet, Bunny announced his intention to forgo hosting WWE Backlash in order to fight Priest. That set up a Street Fight Match in Bunny and Priest’s native Puerto Rico.

Priest had the upper hand in the early stages of the fight. But the tables, or should that be chairs, began to turn after Priest hit his signature South of Heaven. Priest pulled Bunny out of the count after his typical finisher, but Bunny flew off the turnbuckle to send Priest to the mat. The two traded blows before Priest feigned a walkout, only to stun Bunny with his own thrown trash can. Priest followed that up by sending Bunny through a pair of tables. As Bunny recovered, chaos broke out as Priest’s Judgement Day partners Finn Bálor & Dominik Mysterio came out into the ring, followed by Rey Mysterio. Bunny then got another ally in Puerto Rican legend Carlito, who helped him clear out Judgement Day. As a small beef war raged on the walkup, Bunny started to lay the hurt on Priest before finally dropping him for the count.

Bad Bunny Set For WWE Return Match

Bad Bunny is one of the few celebrities to make the difficult adjustment of performing in a WWE ring. Recently, the WWE has had a string of good luck with their celebrity additions to the team. Logan Paul has been a phenomenal talent for the company. The YouTube star put on an excellent show for fans at this year’s Royal Rumble and his match at Wrestlemania. Now it is official that Bunny will be making his return to the squared circle. The Latin hip-hop star even has his next opponent lined up.

The WWE will be running its special event, Backlash, next month in Puerto Rico. When the announcement was made that WWE was returning to Puerto Rico, fans were already assuming Bunny would be involved. A few weeks ago, it was announced that Bunny would be the guest host for the special event. However, his match had yet to be announced by the company. But this past Monday, fans finally got the news they were waiting for. Bunny has been involved in an on-screen storyline with WWE superstar Damian Priest. Although now it seems that the two will have a match at next month’s special event.

Bad Bunny Set For WWE Street Fight

The match is being billed as a ‘San Juan Street Fight.’ A street fight in the WWE is basically a no-rules-style match. A match where weapons are legal and all but guarantee a lot of the action will happen outside of the ring. However, this past Monday on WWE’s Monday Night Raw, Bunny teased his match with Priest. Fans were welcomed to see Bunny bring his own weapon to the ring to give them a little taste of his match at Backlash. During the segment, Bunny challenged Priest to a street fight.

Professional wrestling fans have always been leary of celebrities coming into their space. Consequently, on many occasions, fans can spot out if a celebrity really wants to be a part of the professional wrestling world. However, everyone notices just how invested Bunny is when he hits the screen. Will you be tuning in to see Bad Bunny back in action with the WWE?
