Portion Perseveres In The Face Of Adversity On “Downfall”

Canada’s rap scene has undoubtedly gained some serious momentum in the past few years. Beyond the rappers that have cemented their name in the past decade, we’ve witnessed a surge of incredible artists from the 6ix who are bringing their stories to the forefront. Among those names is Portion, the Scarborough rapper who turned his pain into honeyed melodies. Although it’s been nearly a year since he released music last, he’s finally breaking the hiatus with new music.

In the face of adversity, Portion still comes out on top. The rapper came through with his first music since 2022’s “Letter From Miami” and he’s rapping with a purpose. On “Downfall,” the rapper brings his harmonious flows over a soulful, atmospheric production handled by Gabe Lucas, KutOff, and T Five. Portion sounds off on his doubters and the leeches as he reflects on his rise to fame and details the importance of loyalty and persevering in the face of adversity.

Portion’s Big Return

In a statement, Portion detailed the inspiration behind his latest single. “As I work on new music, I’ve been able to tap into different emotions. There were certain people within my own circle praying on my downfall and those are the things they don’t tell you before you get into this industry. If you’re working on something and are a creative of any kind, you can relate to this song and feeling,” he said.

Last year, Portion delivered his debut project, I Am Nothing Without, along with the deluxe edition titled, Trench Baby. The project boasted a feature from Toosii who appeared on the stand-out track, “EASTSIDE,” along with the single, “Wave,” which earned massive praise. Hopefully, with the release of “Downfall,” it won’t be too long until he slides through with the follow-up. Quotable Lyrics
I been wrapped up in this life, I got a flight at 8 a.m.
I got used to all this fake shit, I got used cuttin’ friends
Got b*tches in my call log, we won’t ever speak again
How you pray on me to lose? I thought you wanted me to win

NLE Choppa Wants A Check ASAP On “Mo Up Front”

NLE Choppa is currently gearing up for his next album. In the past few weeks, he began to roll out his forthcoming effort. Beyond his hilarious appearance on Kai Cenat’s stream which continues to produce endless snippets of content, he delivered a string of singles since the beginning of 2023. He dropped off “23,” then followed it up with “CHAMPIONS” to build further anticipation. Though a release date hasn’t been set, NLE Choppa continues to showcase why he’s one of the hottest rappers out right now.

In the past few weeks, he shared a few updates surrounding his forthcoming project. It appears that a Lil Wayne feature will land on the tracklist. Choppa shared a video of himself meeting Lil Wayne and handing him literal flowers and a note to express just how much the Louisiana legend means to him. “I simply wanted to physically gift you these flowers to symbolize my appreciation for you as an artist, an icon, and more importantly, an inspiration,” he said in the note as he announced the single, “Ain’t Gonna Answer.”

NLE Choppa – Mo Up Front

It seems the genuine act of appreciation impressed the CEO & Co-Chairman of Warner Records, Aaron Bay-Schuck. NLE Choppa shared a text message exchange with Bay-Schuck who praised the rapper for creating hype with his gift to Lil Wayne. “People ate it up. Love it,” he wrote to Choppa, who confirmed that he approved of a release date for his project. After Bay-Schuck told him that he came a long way, Choppa responded, “Bout that time I need some mo up front!!”

This morning, Choppa blessed fans with his latest single, “Mo Up Front.” The anthem boasts production from Super O, The Beatssmith, and Yuneer Gainz, who cook up a muddy beat. Choppa commands the record as he finds different pockets and delivers braggadocious bars. Check out the latest form NLE Choppa above and sound off with your thoughts in the comments below.

Anitta Would “Auction Off My Organs” To Get Out Of Warner Music Deal

She’s in the thick of mainstream mayhem, and Anitta is regretting her record deal. Every so often, artists hop on social media to unleash their ire with their labels. It’s becoming a regular occurrence these days, and Brazilian hitmaker Anitta is the latest to air out a few grievances. Since first emerging around 2010, the singer has been hard at work, developing her career on global stages. She’s more recently earned success in the U.S., partnering with peers like Missy Elliott, Miley Cyrus, and Jack Harlow.

As Anitta’s star continues to rise and demand for her talents is unending, she recently took to Twitter with complaints about Warner Music. A fan said they hoped Anitta would leave her label and add her voice to a space that appreciated her. She responded pointedly and didn’t mince words about being unhappy with her contract.

In a loose translation provided by Google, Anitta made her voice evident. “My love, if I had a fine to pay, I would have already auctioned off my organs,” she replied. “No matter how expensive it was to get out. But unfortunately it doesn’t. When you’re young and still don’t know much, you have to pay close attention to the things you sign… if you can’t spend a lifetime paying for the mistake.”

Billboard reached out to Warner Music for comment on Anitta’s remarks, but they declined to make a statement. “Leila Oliveira, Warner Music Brazil’s new president, did not respond to a message from Billboard,” the outlet further shared. “Brandon Silverstein, Anitta’s U.S.-based manager, also did not respond to a request for comment.”

A Timeline To The End Of Her Music Career

Anitta may be a hitmaker with many more successful years, but she’s already mapping out her retirement. She closed out January by telling Billboard that she only has another five or six years in the music industry before she’s done. “For sure, definitely,” she said, adding that she’s ready for “change, challenges and trying new things.” The singer also emphasized excitement about moving forward with her acting career. The publication noted that she has already begun considering several feature film offers.
