Breezy Supreme Performs ‘Anarchy? Now That’s Fun’ For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

It’s been noted more than a few times over the past several months but pop-punk is back in a big way in 2021. However, there’s a big difference in who’s making it and forms the face of its recent resurgence. Where in its heyday of the early 2000s, Black artists in the space were pretty much limited to Fefe Dobson, the new wave is diverse and proud to wear their influences on their sleeves.

The latest UPROXX Sessions is a member of this growing tribe hailing from Maryland. Breezy Supreme first came on the scene in 2017 with his mixtape The Enigma and has since been growing a grassroots fanbase with his loving homages to the punk/hardcore/metal scenes of decades past. His song “Anarchy? Now That’s Fun” is a straight-up thrash metal jam that’s charmingly shot through with just enough of a hip-hop edge to dodge just being an imitation and bring something new to the homage.

BFB Da Packman Powers Through A Wild ‘Weekend At Solomon’s’ ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance

The last we heard from Flint, Michigan native BFB Da Packman, the jokester rapper was preparing his debut release, Fat N****s Need Love Too. Today, he becomes the latest guest on UPROXX Sessions, bringing his unique, off-kilter lyrical sensibilities to a boisterous performance of “Weekend At Solomon’s,” a standout from the album. Rocking a Day-Glo Balenciaga long-sleeved shirt, BFB swaggers through chuckle-inducing bars like “I had a fat mama, dawg, I dare you n****s blame me.”

BFB is part of a wave of rappers emerging from Michigan by embracing a behind-the-pocket flow marked by smirking, tongue-in-cheek punchlines. He stands apart from them with his externally-facing outlook; while rappers like Babyface Ray, Icewear Vezzo, Rio Da Yung OG, and Sada Baby are more insular, preferring to work within their tight-knit but growing circle, Packman has stretched out beyond the Great Lake State, pulling rappers from all over into his orbit on Fat N****s Need Love Too. While the album does feature locals like DDG, Payroll Giovanni, and Sada Baby, it also employs appearances from Buffalo brick rap powerhouse Benny The Butcher, XXL Freshman Coi Leray, the stoner avatar Wiz Khalifa, and maniacal standup comic Zack Fox. Packman also recently featured on Guapdad 4000’s “Alpha” remix, popping up in whiteface to represent a pernicious Permit Patrick.

BlueBucksClan Pays Homage To ‘Horace Grant’ In A Freewheeling ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance

The latest UPROXX Sessions performers are BlueBucksClan, who bring their freewheeling single “Horace Grant” to the studio fresh off their participation in React Like You Know. The LA-based party-rap duo’s breakout hit exemplifies their penchant for peppering their songs with slick sports references. DJ and Jeeezy’s laid-back delivery belies the quick wits that have made them a fast favorite of the West Coast underground scene, while Ten11’s thumping beat ensures that the upbeat “Horace Grant” will remain a fixture of party playlists for the foreseeable future.

Starting out in 2019 after foregoing college scholarships to play football, BlueBucksClan’s fanbase has been steadily growing ever since the release of the duo’s debut mixtape Clan Way in October of that year. The duo’s most recent release is Clan Virus 2, which they dropped in March of this year after partnering with Universal. The tape saw an expansion of the duo’s fun-loving remit, adding appearances from big names like Hit-Boy, Lil Yachty, and Quavo to a guest list that also featured their South LA compatriot and fellow rising star Bino Rideaux (who is also their Out Of The Blue labelmate). While the goal may have been to broaden their appeal, they also stuck closely to their guns, riding their off-kilter flows and gut-busting punchlines to a level of buzz most rap rookies can only dream about.

24KGoldn Details His Rise To ‘The Top’ With A Melodic ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance

24KGoldn, the San Francisco-born hitmaker halfway responsible for the No. 1 single “Mood” (along with Iann Dior), dropped by Uproxx Studios recently to detail his rise to “The Top” with an upbeat, melodic performance for UPROXX Sessions. Bedecked in tie-dye and oozing youthful charm, the easygoing 20-year-old lays out a lighthearted performance of the opener from his March debut album El Dorado.

In 2020, 24KGoldn was selected to be one of XXL’s Freshman Class after fan voting helped him land the coveted 10th spot. That same month, “Mood” first charted before rising to the No. 1 position on the Hot 100, where it remained for eight non-consecutive weeks. 24KGoldn followed up in 2021 with the Columbia Records debut El Dorado, which peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard 200 and has to date racked up a gold certification from the RIAA (500,000 equivalent sales). He’s due to go on his tour for the album beginning in November.

Lil Skies Comes Through With ‘Ice Water’ For A Bouncy ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance

Lil Skies remains a star three years after the stunning release of his hit debut mixtape Life Of A Dark Rose. The 23-year-old is just months removed from the January release of his second studio album Unbothered, which debuted at No. 50 on the Billboard 200, supporting it since with the release of a deluxe version with seven new songs, including the exuberant “Ice Water” featuring Trippie Redd.

Today, Lil Skies comes through for a bouncy UPROXX Sessions performance of that track sans Trippie (another Sessions alum), just a few months after his last appearance, when he dropped in to show off another deluxe edition track, “How You Feel.” While that performance was more laid-back, this time around he brings lots of energy, reflecting the celebratory vibe on “Ice Water.”

Jaxxon D. Silva Delivers A Moody Performance Of ‘Out Here On The Otherside’ For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

22-year-old Los Angeles native Jaxxon D. Silva has been releasing music since 2017, bouncing from grungy alt-rock to low-fi, throwback hip-hop and collaborating with stars like Lil Peep and Skepta. Most recently, he dropped the five-song EP I Wasn’t Born With Enough Middle Fingers in April, continuing his streak of new releases and stretching his creative muscles to include references to grime and Chicago drill.

This week, he’s Uproxx’s latest edition to the Sessions performance canon, playing a moody rendition of his synthy 2020 trap anthem “Out Here On The Otherside.” The defiant lyrics exult in his status as an outsider and a rebel, inviting the listener to join him in going against the grain. “I’m out here on the otherside,” he croons on the hook. “Why don’t you try and cross the line?”

Lil Duece Plays A Laid-Back Performance Of ‘Outside (Tiny Yung Freestyle)’ On ‘UPROXX Sessions’

No, that’s not a typo. Today’s UPROXX Sessions guest Lil Duece really spells his name like that — which actually benefits him on searches. Today, the Inglewood native delivers a laid-back performance of his signature single “Outside (Tiny Yung Freestyle),” leaning heavily into his trademark LA-inflected flow over the track’s swinging, saxophone-laden instrumental.

Duece might not be a household name outside the confines of Los Angeles County, but in his hometown, he’s a rising star, turning in standout guest verses alongside fellow Angelenos like 1TakeQuan (the crewmate of another Sessions alum, 1TakeJay), 2 Eleven, Rucci, and Skeme, while songs like “Judo” and his June 2021 collaborative mixtape with Shoreline Mafia’s Rob Vicious have raised his profile in recent years. Meanwhile, the Lyrical Lemonade-approved “Outside,” with its region-agnostic production, has provided a near-perfect vehicle to carry his obviously deeply-rooted rap style and LA gang life references to the nation at large.

Smiley’s Focused ‘In My Zone’ Performance On ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Highlights His Tunnel Vision Approach

Toronto rapper Smiley is just weeks removed from landing a huge guest feature from Drake on their “Over The Top” collaboration. Drake’s sharp bars are surrounded by Smiley’s own laid-back raps that steer through the song’s hard-hitting production. The track with Drake has brought attention to the rest of Smiley’s catalog which includes “In My Zone,” a track that also stands tall in his discography. The song, which he released back in April, is also one the Toronto rapper decided to perform for his first UPROXX Sessions appearance. In his performance, Smiley details his tunnel vision approach to life on the cautious banger.

While Smiley may be a new name to many, the Toronto rapper has been on the grind for the past three years. His 2018 debut project Buy. Or. Bye grabbed the attention of many as it unveiled raps that detailed a dark past. Additional attention would be brought his way when Drake quoted a line from his Smiley’s “Free Baby” (“Nobody really know what I been through”) during the height of his rap beef with Pusha-T. Since then, Smiley inked a deal with Warner Records and dropped his 2020 mixtape, YYZ-LAX. Now, he’s hard at work on his next project, Buy. Or. Bye 2 and with “Over The Top” and “In My Zone” leading the way, things are looking good for the Toronto upstart.

Ryan Trey Grooves Through A Live Performance Of ‘It’s About A Girl’ For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, today’s guest on UPROXX Sessions is 21-year-old rapper-singer, Ryan Trey. With his album A 64 East Saga on the way, Ryan drops by the Uproxx Studios office to give a soulful performance of the project single “It’s About A Girl.” Over a muddy, swirling synth and hardcore kick drum, Ryan salutes a girl he describes as “top two, but you’re not two,” praising her for “changin’ keys on the regular.”

Dropping his debut album EIGHT24 in 2018, Ryan has continued building a following of loyal supporters, which include fellow Midwesterners Bryson Tiller and LeBron James. He’s also set to open for Jack Harlow for Sprite’s Live From The Label concert series this Wednesday, which could be the start of a star run that could soon put him in a similar position to the one Harlow currently occupies.

2KBaby Returns To ‘UPROXX Sessions’ For A Smooth Performance Of ‘Zack & Cody’

Just a few weeks after sharing his new single “Zack & Cody” with DDG, 2KBaby returned to Uproxx Studios to perform the single without his XXL Freshman partner-in-rhyme, crooning his way through the ode to the millennial Disney Channel classic.

2KBaby, who is just a year removed from his debut EP Pregame Rituals, has been building his buzz ever since via a string of single releases including “Like This,” “Ohio River,” and “Great White.” His connection with DDG for “Zack & Cody” was fortuitous, as the single was released just around the time DDG was announced as a 2021 XXL Freshman, bringing additional attention to 2KBaby.

Also contributing to that increased attention, 2KBaby partnered with Uproxx for a rapid-fire trivia game about SpongeBob SquarePants and appears on our React Like You Know panel offering his thoughts on classic videos from the likes of Trick Daddy and Trina, Busta Rhymes, and more.
