Chxpo Scream-Raps Through An Aggressive ‘All My Opps Dead’ Performance For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

UPROXX Sessions is back with another new performance from an up-and-coming underground star. Chxpo, a Cleveland, Ohio native with ties to the wider SoundCloud thrash-rap movement of 2016 (think SpaceGhostpurpp, Wifisfuneral, Ski Mask The Slump God, and Matt Ox), drops in with an aggressive performance of his new song “All My Opps Dead” from his April 2021 album, Xyber Punk 009.

The punk influences in his music are obvious and his aesthetic leans heavily into the anime-inspired looks that also adorn his peers, so Chxpo may throw off some rap purists. With song titles like “Howls Moving Castle” and “Red Ribbon Army” all over his latest project, though, fans who grew up watching Toonami and Adult Swim will likely find plenty to love. On “All My Opps Dead,” Chxpo employs a scream-rap style reminiscent of Tekashi 69, which should endear him to fans of high-energy, menacing mosh pit rap.

Ghoulavelii Gives A Haunting ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance Of ‘WTFS’

With Halloween right around the corner, it’s the perfect time for the spooky Seattle grunge rapper Ghoulavelii to stop by the Sessions set to let listeners know he’s “WTFS” — that’s “with the f*ck sh*t” for those not-well-versed in Gen-Z-speak.

The punky, grungey trap rapper has been active for a few years, garnering attention as more of a rock adherent throughout high school. However, as the walls between those darker, more underground scenes and the super popular trap rap scene eroded due to the explosion of SoundCloud rap in 2015 — you know, the Lil Uzi Verts, Trippie Redds, and Playboi Cartis that currently run a sizable chunk of hip-hop — Ghoul also made the switch, seeing his buzz grow to the point of a record deal with Alamo Records.

His most recent body of work was 2020’s #ariesrevenge, released independently and distributed by Create Music Group (best known for publishing Tekashi 69’s debut album Dummy Boy in 2018).

Watch Belly’s Passionate ‘Moment Of Silence’ Performance For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

In today’s UPROXX Sessions, Belly stops by to deliver a passionate performance of his song “Moment Of Silence.” The Canadian Roc Nation rapper got California cozy to show off the new track from his recently released album, See You Next Wednesday, rocking a colorful ensemble that countered his usual monochromatic looks. His performance drops after he previously made his React Like You Know debut, joining our panel to chat up Lupe Fiasco’s “Kick, Push” video.

Belly’s new album, See You Next Wednesday, marked a return to the limelight for him after releasing his last album, Immigrant, in 2018. Between then and now, he stayed busy behind the scenes, helping his XO Records benefactor The Weeknd with his smash hit album, After Hours, which won the two Toronto natives five 2021 Juno Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys). Belly then made his return earlier this year with a string of singles promoting See You Next Wednesday, including “Better Believe” with Young Thug, “Die For It” featuring Nas, and “Requiem” with fellow Canadian Nav.

David Sabastian Delivers A Celebratory Performance Of ‘Bad B*tch Holiday’ For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Los Angeles’ David Sabastian is the latest artist to take over the UPROXX Sessions mic, bringing an upbeat performance of his song “Bad B*tch Holiday” to life. Decked out in black leather and shades, the rapper/part-time fashion designer switches from clipped, energetic rapping to full-throated crooning on the song, which he also released a video for earlier this month featuring narration by none other than Saweetie.

Baby Rich Delivers A Polished ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance Of ‘No Chances’

In a bouncy performance of his song “No Chances” for UPROXX Sessions, Alabama-born newcomer Baby Rich switches from a smooth, staccato flow to melodic crooning and back as he details all the chances that he won’t take in a relationship. From the lyrics on the swooning chorus, Rich’s philosophy would seem to be “money before women,” while the rapid-fire verses explain exactly why he feels that way.

While he’s not a super well-established face yet, fans attending DDG‘s currently ongoing tour with Kevin Gates can catch Baby Rich as his opening act. Born in Birmingham, Baby Rich has since relocated to Los Angeles and signed with DDG, who appears on another of Rich’s singles, “Simon Says.”

Still at the outset of his career, Rich has all the potential to become a breakout star in his own right with DDG’s guidance and the increased exposure from accompanying his mentor on tour. He’s already adopted DDG’s approach of video logging his experiences on tour, sharing with fans on his YouTube channel. You can even catch a glimpse of him recording his UPROXX Sessions performance in one.

Huey Briss Delivers A Gritty Performance Of ‘Grace Park Legend’ For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Long Beach has long been on hip-hop’s map as a result of Snoop Dogg’s eternal popularity, but in recent years, the nation’s gaze has been returned to the city by the sea thanks to the efforts of a rising crop of rappers that includes, Vince Staples, Seafood Sam, and Huey Briss. Huey himself dropped by Uproxx Studios to demonstrate just why North Long Beach deserves its renewed time in the spotlight with a gritty rendition of the song “Grace Park Legend (Norfside)” from his spring 2021 album of the same name.

In a recent interview with the Long Beach Post, Huey breaks down the thematic drive behind the chilling single. “When I’m talking about North Long Beach, I’m talking about people that aren’t there. It’s like I’m talking to ghosts,” he says. “Ninety percent of the people I grew up with are not even here. They’re all in jail, but not because they’re bad people, but because they’re broke. What you want to do? Go to college? You never see nobody do that. You only want to be what you see, and you see everybody around you steal a car, you’re gonna steal a car.”

Fortunately, the music is beginning to take off for the self-proclaimed Grace Park legend, who recently released the deluxe version of his album, which you can listen to here.

Portion Is ‘Hella Clean’ In A Moody ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance

Toronto rapper Portion comes through UPROXX Sessions with a moody performance of his tormented single “Hella Clean.” Meditating on his rags-to-riches from the trenches to his “fortress,” Portion describes the conditions of his hometown, mourns fallen friends, and celebrates his newfound success.

In a recent interview, Portion, who until very recently put out all his music independently, describes the difference in his work ethic that made Warner Music Canada take note: “When I sent ‘99 Prblms’ to the label, it took a while for them to get back, so I just shot the video myself, to get it ready,” he recalls. “I think once they saw that I wasn’t sitting around waiting for them, it showed them how serious I take my work. There’s something to do every day. Before I was signed, I’d take a month and do tons of music, and then take a month off. Now, it’s really my job.”

FrostyDaSnowmann Delivers A Chilly UPROXX Sessions Performance Of ‘That Guy’

Inglewood rapper FrostyDaSnowmann fully believes he’s “That Guy” and does a pretty good job of trying to convince viewers of the same in this week’s UPROXX Sessions. Featuring a stripped-down beat and the off-kilter flow that’s become a signature of the LA underground scene, Frosty sports a fit that goes well with his moniker and does all the witty trash-talking that has made LA’s underground so hilariously engaging.

The rapper is bouncing back after recovering from a shooting in his hometown this past August. Prior to that, he was attempting a career reset after a two-year stint in prison on assault and theft charges. He first caught attention in 2016 with his single “Milwaukee Bucks” produced by Ron-Ron, one of the focal points of the “New LA” movement. Since his release, he’s been consistently releasing music independently on his YouTube channel featuring fellow members of the wave 1TakeJay and Almighty Suspect.

99 Neighbors Cruise Through A Smooth ‘Eastside’ Invitation For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

99 Neighbors issue a smooth invitation on their groovy single “Eastside,” pairing the laid-back, melodic track with a casual performance on the latest episode of UPROXX Sessions. The group, which normally consists of seven members, came through Uproxx Studios with a stripped-down, two-man lineup consisting of rappers Sam Paulino and Hanknative, who provide all the vocals on the song, while Jared Fier, Juju, and Somba make their presence known on the lilting, midtempo beat. Other members of the group include Aidan Ostby, a vocalist, Connor “Swank” Stankevich, also a rapper, and Shane Kaseta, the group’s graphic designer and photographer.

First-time listeners might be surprised to learn that the group hails from Burlington, Vermont, which is not exactly a hotbed of the jazz, R&B, and hip-hop that influences their sound. However, once the band formed in 2018, it didn’t take them long to acquire national recognition, thanks in part to securing the co-management services of Pat Corcoran, who formerly managed Chance The Rapper. 99 Neighbors were included as the first act in Corcoran’s 2019 label deal with Warner Records and they’ve steadily grown their profile since.

Lakeyah Delivers An Aggressive ‘Check’ Performance On ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Milwaukee-bred Quality Control Music member Lakeyah brings a ruthless rendition of her cutthroat song “Check” to UPROXX Sessions just days after dropping her latest full-length project, My Turn, with DJ Drama. It’s not every day a rising artist like Lakeyah can secure Drama’s assistance on a Gangsta Grillz-branded album/mixtape, which should be all the proof you need that this XXL Freshman is the real deal.

In an interview with Uproxx earlier this year, Lakeyah explained the “time” motif of her three releases: “I feel like success — slow success — builds character,” she said. “Everything is going to happen at the perfect time for me… I just feel like everything is going to fall into place. I’m just working my ass off right now being super consistent. It’s all about timing. You don’t want to burn yourself out, out here.”
