Turkey Bans Roblox, Claims Popular Online Game Exploits Children and Shows Them Explicit Content

Increasingly, governments across the globe have focused their attention on online services that do not take sufficient precautions to protect children from harmful content.  These efforts have been aimed at social media services like Instagram and TikTok, and have been most recently aimed at online games.  One country has taken the extraordinary step of banning these services entirely.

On August 7th, the Turkish government’s Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), announced that it was banning the game Roblox.  Roblox is free to play and massively popular, particularly with children and teens, with over 500 million downloads.  Roughly 40% of Roblox’s estimated 77 million daily players are under age 13.  Roblox is played entirely online and provides users with access to the Roblox Studio, where they can create their own games or play games that have been designed by other users.  Roblox consists of over 40 million user-designed games.  Many of these games offer in-game purchases using Roblox’s in-game currency, “Robux,” which can be purchased with real money outside the game.  Many of the individual games allow direct player-to-player interaction through in-game messaging, and there is an optional live voice messaging function.

The Turkish government stated in its official announcement on X (formerly Twitter) that it was banning Roblox based on prevalent reports of sexual exploitation, pedophilia, exploitation of children, and lack of content oversight.  The claims of child exploitation arise from Roblox’s model where children create content for Roblox without pay, or for “Robux,” while the company keeps the profits.

Similar accusations against Roblox have been made in the past.  Bloomberg reported recently that Roblox had reported over 13,000 in-game incidents to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and that 24 predators have been arrested for grooming and abuse through the game.   A group of U.S. parents have filed a lawsuit against Roblox claiming inadequate safety precautions and exposure of children to explicit content.

Although Turkey has now lifted its recent Instagram ban, there has been no news about lifting the ban on Roblox. Roblox has explained that they are working with local authorities to lift the ban, and that they wish to help all of their players and developers (many of which have careers based around the app) to get back online, and back to playing.  Currently, there has not been much political interest in banning or restricting Roblox in the U.S., but this could change as further accusations come to light.

While Plies is often talking about whatever the hottest drama in rap and social media is at the time, there’s one person he consistently returns to. All year he’s been obsessed with commenting on pretty much anything Britney Spears does. Though his obsession dates back quite a while it was kicked into another gear around the middle of 2023. It got to be so prevalent that when Britney announced her divorce from Sam Asghari, people online blamed Plies. For his part, he celebrated the divorce announcement.

If anything, the divorce news shifted his obsession with the pop star into overdrive. Back in September, he described her as “his Beyonce” when she shared a video of herself dancing to social media. His tone was similar a month later when he reacted to a nude photo she shared. What do you think of Plies’ Thanksgiving jokes comparing injecting his turkey with butter to a BBL procedure? Let us know in the comment section below.

Enes Kanter Freedom Hit With $530K Bounty From Turkish Government

Enes Kanter has become an interesting figure over the last couple of years. Originally, he was seen as a political figure within the NBA due to his status in Turkey. Kanter was very vocal about his distaste for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Consequently, there was a warrant for his arrest inside of the country.

Overall, Kanter has become much more political since that time. For instance, he has become a mouthpiece for the Republican party. He is a fixture on Fox News, and he loves to attack liberals and LeBron James. Needless to say, he has found a lucrative career outside of basketball.

Enes Kanter Vs. Turkish Government

According to the New York Post, Kanter is now dealing with a whole new problem. He has been hit with a massive $530K bounty from the Turkish government. Essentially, they want him detained and they want to reward the person who captures him.

“I’m not the only one. There are so many innocent journalists, academics, athletes, activists and educators on this list. Now their lives are in danger because of the Turkish government,” Kanter told Turkish Minute. The former NBA star now believes that he is always in danger as numerous people will want the bounty money.

Regardless, Kanter vows to continue speaking out about his beliefs. He isn’t scared to criticize his home country, even if it means putting himself in their crosshairs. For the time being, it is clear that he will remain in the United States.

This is a developing story, so be sure to stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the sports world.
