Megan Thee Stallion Is On Her ‘Thot Sh*t’ At Her 2021 BET Awards Performance

After emerging from a brief hiatus, Megan Thee Stallion marked her return by dropping her sweltering song “Thot Sh*t.” Megan is leading the pack at the 2021 BET Awards Sunday night with an impressive seven nominations. To celebrate, the rapper pulled off a eye-catching rendition of her hit “Thot Sh*t” track.

Taking the stage in an all-black outfit, Megan was joined by a crew of backup dancers to strut her stuff for her “Thot Sh*t” set. The rapper delivered her cutting lyrics while dropping it low as a projected image of a diamond flashed behind her.

Ahead of her performance, Megan’s “Thot Sh*t” song caused quite an uproar from both sides of the political aisle. One GOP congressional candidate, DeAnna Lorraine, was very outspoken about her distaste for Megan and Cardi B’s song “WAP” last year. So when Megan dropped “Thot Sh*t,” Lorraine thought the song was throwing direct shade at her.

On the other hand, “Thot Sh*t” became the subject of a boycott by Black TikTok creators. According to Mashable, Black TikTok creators were fed up over the tendency for non-Black TikTok users to co-opt their dances — and get more attention. Those on strike noted how popular TikTok users like Addison Rae and Charli D’Amelio essentially copied already well-known dances, which were oftentimes created by Black users, and used them to boost their fame.

Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Thot Sh*t’ Is At The Center Of A TikTok Strike By Black Creators

Usually, when a universally beloved rapper like Megan Thee Stallion releases a seismic new single such as “Thot Sh*t,” her most recent effort that already has conservatives shaking their proverbial fists, creators on TikTok have a field day inventing viral dance challenges that then become emblematic of a song’s success. It’s worked for Cardi B, with both her songs “WAP” (which also features Meg) and “Up,” and it’s worked for Doja Cat, whose “Say So” and “Streets” were subjects of inescapable dance crazes (and sultry backlit boudoir shoots).

However, there has been no skyrocketing trend for “Thot Sh*t,” which by most accounts is already every bit as popular as any of Megan’s other hits. According to Mashable, that’s because Black TikTokers are now refusing to create one, citing the tendency of non-Black users to co-opt and water down their efforts, which tends to lead to the aforementioned trends. With Black TikTokers — the originators of many of the most popular dances — “striking,” none the videos under the “Thot Sh*t” sound have taken off as in the past.

Observers have noted the discrepancy in attention since the app’s explosion in popularity a couple of years ago. While influencers like Addison Rae, Charlie D’Amelio, and others receive mainstream exposure and opportunities for essentially copying the already popular dances, the originators tend to go overlooked. See: The NBA’s 2020 All-Star Weekend, where the “Renegade” challenge to K Camp’s “Lottery” was in evidence throughout the broadcast, but Jalaiah Harmon, the 14-year-old who choreographed it in the first place, was nowhere to be found.

Of course, Twitter users took note of the dearth of content, and the results… well… you can see them below. What’s the solution? Ultimately, that will have to be left to the content creators themselves, but for one thing, it would seem all the record deals, television appearances, and paid performances should ultimately be going to the folks who form the engine that drives TikTok and turns hits into ubiquitous pop cultural phenomenons.

Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Thot Sh*t’ Video Has One Conservative Politician Feeling ‘Threatened’

Megan Thee Stallion returned from a brief hiatus last week to issue a clap back to conservative politicians who are offended by her music. Releasing her “Thot Sh*t” video, Megan made fun of right-wingers who trash talk her music, but continue to obsessively follow her every career move. One conservative apparently took this critique to heart, as she took the visual as a personal affront.

GOP congressional candidate DeAnna Lorraine was very outspoken about her disdain for Megan and Cardi B’s “WAP” video last year. Now, she’s taking aim at Megan’s latest song. In a video statement shared with TMZ, Lorraine mentioned that she felt personally targeted by Megan’s video:

“Megan Thee Stallion’s latest video, she’s referring to potentially me because we’ve feuded in the past with her videos like ‘WAP,’ but probably just the conservative political commentators on a whole that have called her out for her music videos and her outrageous, degrading songs in the past. So if I were to run again for office, I would say, ‘Look, we actually need to have better music, better examples of role models in our media and in our movies, and especially in our music because young people listen to music so much.’”

Lorraine continues to note that some particularly diehard Megan and Cardi B fans have sent her threatening messages. But in her mind, she really thinks she’s doing something to “help these people.” “I feel threatened. I worry sometimes if they’re going to come after me or they really will find my address and kill me or doing something terrible to me,” she said. “That’s a shame because I’m trying to help these people, I’m trying to help them see that they can be more than their ‘WAP.’”

Lorraine concluded her rant by doubling down on her assertion that Megan’s music is “garbage.” “I’m trying to help them realize that there’s a positive way to be successful in society that doesn’t mean selling your body on the streets and getting that money,” she said. “But they don’t really care, they’re going to listen to the Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion no matter what, and it’s not going to stop me from standing up for what I believe in, which is that this music is garbage and we need to do better for our youth, we need to do better for our culture.”

Megan Thee Stallion Said She Thinks Dua Lipa Is ‘Fire’ And She Wants To Do A Song With Her

Like most of the world, Megan Thee Stallion is a fan of Dua Lipa. But unlike the rest of us, Megan actually has a shot at collaborating with Dua if she wants to. Today Megan dropped her latest incredibly subversive, misandrist new single “Thot Sh*t”, in which she and her crew of thots terrorize the would-be holier-than-thou white, male senators who are constantly criticizing them for owning their sexuality. This new video is sure to turn a few heads in the senate, as it’s a direct rebuttal to Conservative outrage over Megan, or her collaboration with Cardi B, “WAP.”

And when it comes to collaborations, it’s very likely that Dua will be next on the list. Speaking in an interview about artists she likes, Megan mentions that she thinks Dua is “fire” and that she’d love to work with her. “Somebody asked me about Dua Lipa, I love Dua Lipa, she’s so fire,” Megan said. “I really do want to do a song with Dua Lipa. I saw this like, mashup on Twitter and it was fire.”

For her part, Dua is thrilled that Megan feels that way. After a fan account tagged the snippet from Megan, the Albanian pop star shared it on her own story with an enthusiastic response: “I love you @TheeStallion let’s get it!!!!”

So we’ll all be looking forward to that pairing hopefully coming our way soon.

Megan Thee Stallion Rings In Hot Girl Summer With A Booty-Baring ‘Thot Sh*t’ Teaser

After a whirlwind 2020 culminated in her winning several Grammy Awards, Megan Thee Stallion took some time away from the public eye to “prepare for what’s next.” Earlier this week, Megan marked her impending return by teasing her first new solo single following her debut album Good News. The rapper revealed the upcoming song is titled “Thot Sh*t” and she’s now found a cheeky way to get fans excited about her new music.

After previously sharing the “Thot Sh*t” single art and cryptically pointing to the comeback of her alter rap ego Tina Snow, Megan returned Tuesday to tease the single with a bootylicious photo set. “3 MORE DAYS UNTIL #THOTSHITDROPS,” she wrote alongside pictures of her in a revealing nurse costume.

Though “Thot Sh*t” marks the rapper’s official return, Megan was still making moves while she was taking some time away from social media. The rapper was recently nominated for seven 2021 BET Awards, tying with DaBaby for the artist with the most nods this year. She’s also been announced as the headliner for several major summer festivals like Bottlerock, Bonnaroo, Governors Ball, and New Orleans’ Buku Festival.
