Lil Uzi Vert Unleashes ‘I Know’ From Their Forthcoming EP ‘Red & White’

Last week, Lil Uzi Vert, who recently started going by they/them pronouns, announced their new EP Red & White. It’s the prelude to the Philadelphia-native rapper’s long-awaited project The Pink Tape, which they first announced towards the end of 2021.

Uzi is already giving us a taste of this new material with the song “I Know,” which was uploaded to Soundcloud on Monday, following the release of “Space Cadet” over the weekend. Produced by Sonny Digital, it has an addictive beat and sharp lines. “I am not one to wait, so you gotta say when you ready / You are disloyalty, so tell me when we go steady,” they rap in a flow anchored by the simple but catchy hook, “I know.” Some fans know the track from when it was called “Neck On Froze,” which was previewed on Uzi’s Instagram in 2017. It was supposed to be on Luv Is Rage 2 but didn’t make the cut.

In 2017, Uzi revealed that they gave up on trying to have a “regular” job and made a bet on their music. “It was like, ‘If I get this face tattoo, I got to focus,’” they said. “I can’t go in nobody’s office with a suit on with this shit on my face. I got to focus on what I want to do.”

Lil Uzi Vert Announces The ‘Red & White’ EP, A Prelude To His Upcoming ‘The Pink Tape’ Project

The last time we received a project from Lil Uzi Vert was at the end of 2020 when he and Future joined forces for Pluto X Baby Pluto. His last solo release was LUV Vs. The World 2, which doubled as the deluxe edition of his 2020 album Eternal Atake. Over the years, Uzi has teased multiple projects, but only now has he delivered a sold release date on one. On Tuesday night, Uzi took to his Instagram page to announce his upcoming Red & White EP. He even shared the artwork for the project to boost anticipation for it.

In the caption for the project’s announcement, Uzi wrote, “Red & White Ep …. Before The P!NK.” That’s a reference to Uzi’s long-awaited The Pink Tape which he first announced towards the end of 2021. He originally said the project would arrive just in time for Halloween last year, citing that it was in the mixing process at the time. However, a short time later, he revealed that the project would be delayed so “it won’t suck.” Since then, we haven’t heard much about the project, but Uzi did promise recently that he is “going back to classic mode” for his next releases, so hopefully, it starts with Red & White.

Lil Uzi Vert Says He’s ‘Going Back To Classic Mode’ For His New Music

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve received a solo project from Lil Uzi Vert. While he’s given us several fire features, as well a collaborative mixtape with Future, Uzi hasn’t given us a full-length project of his own since 2020’s Eternal Atake. Yesterday, Uzi took to his Instagram story to give us an update on his new music.

“This time less talkin’ more working,” said Uzi. “Going back in classic mode. I been [through] 2 much this time around. Nothin’ can break me.”

Uzi may be referring to The Pink Tape, his long-anticipated follow-up album to Eternal Atake. He first announced The Pink Tape last year, teasing it all throughout 2021. While attending an event at the 40/40 club last year, Uzi said of the album, “…it’s going through the mixing process right now because last time I dropped an album, it did really well,” Uzi said. “[Eternal Atake] was actually my highest-selling album but it was a little bit experimental on the mixing part, not the actual music, so this time, I went experimental with the music and traditional on the mixing.”

While it was originally planned for October of last year, Uzi revealed he is deciding to take his time on The Pink Tape to make sure “it won’t suck.

Lil Uzi Vert Delays ‘The Pink Tape’ To Make Sure ‘It Won’t Suck’

Earlier this month, Lil Uzi Vert announced that his upcoming album, The Pink Tape, would arrive before Halloween. He said it was in the “mixing process right now” during an interview on the blue carpet for Jay-Z’s anniversary event at the 40/40 Club in August. But it now appears the wait will go on a bit longer than expected.

In a video posted on social media, Lil Uzi Vert revealed the upcoming album is delayed for creative reasons. When asked if The Pink Tape would arrive before Halloween, he simply replied, “No it’s not.” He elaborated, saying, “Then it drops next week and then it sounds like sh*t and I gotta hear it from, well not from you, but I gotta hear it from 100,000 people on the internet saying, ‘This sucks!’ So you gotta let me take my time!” A fan assured the rapper that the project would not suck and Uzi replied, “But I’m taking my time so it won’t suck.”

In the meantime, you can check out Uzi’s latest release, “Thankful,” from the compilation Culture Jam Vol. 1, which Kawhi Leonard co-executive produced.

Lil Uzi Vert Says His Next Project, ‘The Pink Tape,’ Will Arrive Just In Time For Halloween

Lil Uzi Vert has been busy. Eternal Atake arrived earlier this year, followed by its deluxe reissue Lil Uzi Vert Vs. The World 2. He then followed that with the Future collaboration Pluto Vs. Baby Pluto. The Philly native has teased plans to return with a new project at some point this year, but he’d yet to specify when. All of that changed over the weekend, when Lil Uzi delivered an update during a traditional Cambodian weddin.

During the event, one of the attendees approached the rapper with a camera and asked when they could expect his new project. “Probably in like three weeks, before Halloween come out,” he replied in the video. He also said that the album would be titled The Pink Tape.

Previously Vert discussed the album during a Jay-Z’s anniversary event at the 40/40 Club in August. “Well, it’s going through its mixing process right now,” Uzi said during a brief interview on the event’s blue carpet. “Because last time I dropped an album, it did really well. It was actually my highest-selling album, but it was experimental on the mixing part, not the actual music, so this time I went experimental with the music and traditional on the mixing.”
