Isaiah Rashad Is Hitting The Road This Fall For ‘Lil Sunny’s Awesome Vacation’

In just a few days, Isaiah Rashad will share The House Is Burning, his first album in nearly five years. The project is one that fans of the TDE rapper have patiently waited for following the success of his critically-acclaimed debut album, 2015’s The Sun’s Tirade. While it was certainly a slow start on the road leading to The House Is Burning, Rashad picked things up in recent months. He dropped the album’s lead single, “Lay Wit Ya,” back in May and released “Headshots [4r Da Locals]” a short time later. The rapper recently shared the album’s third single “Wat U Sed” and now he’s unveiled a big tour in support of the upcoming project.

Rashed announced Lil Sunny’s Awesome Vacation, a tour that will put the rapper back on the road in just a couple of months. The string of shows begins on September 8 in Boston, Massachusetts, and continues for a little over two months before coming to an end in the rapper’s hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The flyer for the tour also promises special guests that will most likely join the rapper at various stops. Tickets for Lil Sunny’s Awesome Vacation are available on the rapper’s website here.

The tour announcement comes after Rashad shared the tracklist for The House Is Burning. Across 16 songs, listeners will hear guest appearances from fellow TDE acts Jay Rock and SZA as well as Lil Uzi Vert, Smino, Duke Deuce, Jay Worthy, Doechii, Kal Banx, YGTUT, and 6lack.

Isaiah Rashad’s long-anticipated sophomore album The House Is Burning drops next Friday, July 30, and with just one week to go, the Chattanooga rapper has shared the album’s full tracklist on social media.

As you can see from the back of the album, pictured below, The House Is Burning features guest spots from SZA, Lil Uzi Vert, Jay Rock, 6lack, and plenty more. Also, production credits range from Devin Malik to Kal Banx (who also guests on the record), Kenny Beats, Hollywood Cole, and more. As previously reported, Rashad first made his comeback earlier this year with “Lay Wit Ya” featuring Duke Deuce, following up with “Headshots (4r Da Locals).” He also shared a few songs that got cut from the album, including “200/Warning.”

Rashad first mentioned The House Is Burning in a May interview with The Fader. “I just wanted this sh*t to sound fun,” he said. “If I’m sad, people don’t need to be able to tell. And this is probably my most depressing album.”

With smooth, space-funk production provided by Amaire Johnson and Rory Behr, the song describes a typical night out for Zay, which seems to include plenty of women and bass in the trunk. Guest rapper Doechii, who rose to prominence on TikTok due to the popularity of her song “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake” (which really is better than the title makes it seem), provides an anchor verse and feminine counterpoint to Isaiah’s boasts.

In a bit of good news for fans of the Top Dawg Entertainment-associated artist, the album will be dropping at the end of the month, on July 30. He also provided the cover art, which resembles a crayon drawing of a house that is quite literally on fire, even though the environment around it seems sunny and pleasant. I don’t know, seems mighty metaphorical to me.

In anticipation of the album’s release, Rashad has released a steady trickle of new videos illustrating the album’s direction and themes of depression, anxiety, self-destructive cycles, and occasional cathartic release. His first release of the cycle was the Duke Deuce-featuring “Lay Wit Ya,” which was followed by the Chattanooga rapper sharing a few songs that didn’t make the album, then by his ruminative “Headshots,” whose video drew from his real-life experience in rehab.

That rehab was one of the factors in the album’s delay, as Zay revealed his drinking problem got so bad he wrecked his boss Top Dawg’s car. He also had to recover from a bout of COVID-19, but thanks to his label’s unwavering support, he was able to get back on track and complete the album.

Isaiah Rashad Searches For Support In His Cyclic ‘Headshots’ Video

The wheels keep turning in the surreal visual for Chattanooga rapper Isaiah Rashad‘s latest The House Is Burning single, “Headshots (4r Da Locals).” Opening with Isaiah participating in a support group called Agony Anonymous, the video — which is directed by Jack Begert and Mez Heirs — uses moody lighting and symbolic imagery to depict the cycles of depression and anxiety in which the rapper feels trapped. It’s also a not-so-subtle reference to his own recent stay at a rehab clinic earlier this year, which TDE’s Top Dawg got him into when he couldn’t finish the album.

Isaiah revealed the depths of his depression and struggle with substance abuse in a recent cover story for The Fader, telling Jeff Weiss about the time he wrecked Top Dawg’s car and had to get it fixed without his label boss knowing and how he spent most of his rap money buying “really expensive sandwiches.” A stay at Dana Point Rehab got him back on track, leading to him finishing The House Is Burning and restarting the hype train with his Duke Deuce-featuring single “Lay Wit Ya.” He was apparently so productive he wound up with more songs than he wanted, sharing “200/Warning” on social media, telling fans it didn’t make the cut. The album is set to release sometime soon.

Isaiah Rashad Fires Off ‘Headshots (4r Da Locals)’ On A Woozy Single For ‘The House Is Burning’

Fans of Top Dawg Entertainment and more specifically, Isaiah Rashad, have spent the last month rejoicing as the Tennessee native revealed his second album, The House Is Burning, would arrive at some point in June. From the looks of it, Rashad’s upcoming effort should drop next week, June 25, as long as his promise remains true. Until then, fans can enjoy the project’s first single, “Lay Wit Ya” with Duke Duece, and its newest single, “Headshots (4r Da Locals),” which the rapper just released for his faithful listeners.

The track is a woozy effort that fits in the pocket of the similarly titled track, “4 Da Squaw,” from his debut album, The Sun’s Tirade. “Headshots (4r Da Locals)” also features production from Hollywood Cole who is also responsible for the beat behind Rashad’s “Lay Wit Ya.” As highlighted in his profile with Fader, Rashad’s new single celebrates his return to the hip-hop world while recognizing that he can’t remove life’s pains by burning them.

Prior to the arrival of “Headshots (4r Da Locals),” Rashad dropped “200/Warning,” a tracked he revealed would not appear on The House Is Burning, but one that seemingly arrived as a treat for fans who stayed patient for his return over the years.

Isaiah Rashad Shared ‘200/Warning,’ A New Track That Didn’t Quite Make His Upcoming Album

While fans are eager to see if TDE’s biggest stars like SZA and Kendrick Lamar are going to drop albums in 2021, it’s the label’s deep roster that has always made them such a beloved crew. Tonight, Isaiah Rashad helped tide listeners over by sharing a track that didn’t quite make the cut for his upcoming album, House Is Burning. The Tennessee native recently shared another new track, “Lay With Ya” featuring fellow Tennessean, rapper Duke Deuce of Memphis, and tonight’s new track is similarly influenced by southern rap sounds.

Broken into two parts, “200/Warning” showcases exactly why fans have been missing Rashad so much — his last album, The Sun’s Tirade was released all the way back in 2016. In the intervening five years, a lot has changed in the industry, but Rashad’s sound has only sharpened and the southern style he favors has moved farther into the mainstream. As much as he’s progressed, tonight’s casual release proves the Chattanooga-born artist isn’t above releasing a song on SoundCloud while he’s gearing up for the more formal album release.
