With the release of his new single “Houdini” in the rearview, Eminem fans are now looking forward to the release of his upcoming album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). Em announced the album in late April after teasing fans with a phony album announcement to start the month — April Fools!

So, when is Eminem’s new album, The Death Of Slim Shady, scheduled for release?

Although no formal release date has been given as yet, Eminem did give a release window, “Summer 2024.” That means that the album could be out as early as this month, and as late as September. However, Eminem has made the album available for pre-order for “one week only” as a limited-edition digital release with an exclusive bonus track. You can pre-order the album on Eminem’s website.

In addition to releasing his twelfth studio album this year, Eminem had previously announced plans to produce a documentary about stan culture — although it seems that it’ll be specifically about Eminem fans rather than the larger phenomenon. Fans looking for new music from their hero received a new song, as well, in the form of “Doomsday 2,” which appeared on the Lyrical Lemonade album, All Is Yellow, with a video featuring a slew of artists he’s inspired over the years, including Big Sean, Cordae, Denzel Curry, JID, and Teezo Touchdown.

Eminem Comes For Megan Thee Stallion, Paul Rosenberg, And His Own Kids On His New Song ‘Houdini’

Guess who’s back, back again? Shady’s back, quite possibly for the last time. Over the past few weeks, Eminem has been teasing a graceful exit. Earlier this month, he announced his 12th studio album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), teasing a potential bow-out from music. He continued to fuel rumors of his impending retirement in a teaser for his new single, “Houdini,” in a clip in which he tells magician David Blaine he plans to make his career disappear. Tonight (May 31), Eminem kicked off the end of an era with “Houdini.”

On “Houdini,” Eminem takes a look at the current cultural landscape, offering his takes on recent events.

Some lines are just plain tasteless

“If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me / Would I really have a shot at a feat.”

Some are boomer-coded

“My transgender cat’s Siamese / Identifies as black, but acts Chinese”

And some are callbacks to the old Slim Shady, who would diss everyone, even members of his own crew

F*ck Dre, f*ck Jimmy, f*ck me, f*ck you F*ck my own kids, they’re brats

The song marks a return to the irreverent form with which Eminem first stepped onto the scene. But who’s asking for this in 2024? The accompanying video — which features cameos from Dr. Dre, Pete Davidson, and Shane Gillis — continues upon his “Without Me” video from 2002, with current Eminem and 2002 Slim Shady examining all that has changed in the past two decades.

As the age-old adage holds, old habits die hard.

You can watch the video for “Houdini” above (if you must).

An Eminem comeback is on the horizon. Over the course of the past few weeks, the Detroit rapper has been teasing his new album, The Death Of Slim Shady. Though he’s been keeping much of the album details a secret, he finally let fans know when they can expect the first taste of the album.

The 12th album’s title, The Death Of Slim Shady hints that Eminem will kill off his irreverent, unfiltered alter ego, Slim Shady. In a clip shared to Instagram, Eminem is seen on a FaceTime call with world-famous musician, David Blaine.

Em then asks Blaine for tips on a strange magic tragic.

“I was wondering, how far can we go with this magic?,” asks Eminem in the video. “Like, can we do like a stunt or something?”

Blaine is then seen drinking from a glass of wine, and proceeds to bite off the rim of the glass. Eminem then reveals just what tricks he has up his sleeve.

“Well for my last trick, I’m going to make my career disappear,” Eminem says.

At the end of the clip, Em then reveals the title of his new single, “Houdini,” as well as its May 31 release date. Shortly after, fans can hear a brief instrumental of the track.

Eminem Went As Far As Putting A Fake Obituary In A Real Newspaper To Promote ‘The Death Of Slim Shady’

In April, Eminem announced a new album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). The rapper is really leaning into the morbid aspect of it now with a (fake) obituary, which he put in a (real) newspaper.

The obit as seen in the Detroit Free Press newspaper has a headline of “Slim Shady Made Lasting Impressions” and the sub-headline of “Fans ‘Will Never Forget’ Controversial Rapper.” The obituary itself reads:

“A product of Detroit who began his career there as a rogue splinter in the flourishing underground rap scene of the mid to late 1990’s, Shady first became a household name in 1999 with the debut of his playfully deranged single ‘My Name Is,’ which — along with its uniquely eye catching video — exposed the young artist and his lyrics to a wider audience. That audience was soon exposed to the extreme darkness of the muse/rapper, as he led millions of music fans down a road that glorified a demonstrably nihilistic worldview.

Ultimately, the very things that seemed to be the tools he used became calling cards that defined an existence that could only come to a sudden and horrific end. His complex and tortured existence has come to a close, and the legacy he leaves behind is no closer to resolution than the manner in which this character departed this world.

May he truly find the peace in an afterlife that he could not find on Earth.”

The 2024 NFL Draft is being held in Eminem’s beloved Detroit, so he was prominently featured alongside NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in the league’s promotion. Once the NFL Draft began on Thursday night, April 25, Eminem pivoted to promote something else — announcing a new album. Of course, Eminem fooled people with a faux album announcement on April Fools’ Day, but this announcement seems real.

According to Variety, a trailer for the album began making the rounds on X (formerly Twitter) after Eminem appeared on stage with Goodell to officially commence the NFL Draft.

XXL was among the accounts circulating the 30-second video, which shows a true crime reporter on “Detroit Murder Files” discussing “the blond anti-hero known as Slim Shady,” who “has had no shortage of enemies.” 50 Cent appears, saying, “He’s not a friend; he’s a psychopath.” Back to the true crime reporter (or rather, the man spoofing a true crime reporter with impeccable accuracy), detailing that Slim Shady’s “rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise.” He concludes, “Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.”

The screen is then populated with the message, “THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY (COUP DE GRACE) SUMMER 2024.”

Earlier this month, Eminem also announced an upcoming documentary by posting a casting call for real-life “Stans.”
