Kid Cudi has joined the cast of the upcoming spin-off series from the film, Sonic The Hedgehog. Cudi announced the news on Instagram, Tuesday, describing it as a “dream.” The new show will center around the character of Knuckles, with Idris Elba set to reprise his role as the titular character.
“When life has more dreams for you to fulfill [happy emoji] its lit #knuckles @paramountplus,” Cudi wrote on Instagram. He also posted a picture of his cat on Twitter next to a Knuckles toy. “Sweets is happy and excited about the Knuckles show,” Cudi wrote.

Fans were excited for Cudi in the comments section of his announcement. While Cudi didn’t reveal his role, one user theorized, “I have a hunch that Cudi might be the crocodile from Chaotix.” Another wrote, “Kid Cudi as Shadow Sonic, possibly, thoughts people.”
As reported by Deadline, the series will “follow Knuckles on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.” It will take place between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Alongside Kid Cudi, the cast includes Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, and Ellie Taylor. Tika Sumpter will also reprise her role as Maddie in a guest-starring role. The series is currently in production. Jeff Fowler, who directed the films, will be handling the pilot episode. Other directors handling further episodes include Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker. While there’s no release date, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will hit theaters on December 20, 2024.
Paramount CEO Brian Robbins first announced the film back in 2022, explaining the decision during an interview with Variety. “You can’t just make a movie, see how it does and then decide to make another one, because if you do that, it will be years between sequels,” he said at the time. “Like Sonic, we’re going to take a spinoff character Knuckles and do a miniseries on Paramount+, which will transition us into the third Sonic movie with lots of Easter eggs.”
