LA Dodgers Eliminate NY Mets Clinching NLCS Set to Face NY Yankees in Long Awaited Epic World Series Matchup

Screen Shot 2024 10 21 at 4.36.56 PM

This is the matchup the baseball loving world has been waiting for. This is story book but it almost did not go as planned for the LA Dodgers. After consecutive early exits from the National League Division Series, the Dodgers’ front office knew they had to change course. President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, general manager Brandon Gomes, and the rest of the team’s leadership were determined to make aggressive moves in the offseason to avoid another disappointing October.

Obviously it was clear their top priority was signing two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, and once they secured him, the rest of the plan fell into place. The Dodgers spent over $1 billion on contracts, creating one of the strongest rosters in recent memory. The goal for the 2024 season was clear: World Series or bust.

And as the world watched on Sunday (October 20), the Dodgers took care of business and a major step toward their ultimate goal by defeating the New York Mets 10-5 in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) at Dodger Stadium. With the victory, they clinched their spot in the World Series for the 22nd time in franchise history.

The Dodges effectively denied New Yorkers another classic ‘Subway Series’ by denying Mets fans a chance to face-off against their Bronx counterparts in the NY Yankees.

Guess now it will be a coastal series.

Back to the Dodgers …

“Every single team, when they get to Spring Training, they say, ‘Hey, our goal is to win the World Series this year.’ We’re one of the few teams where that’s a realistic goal—every single year,” said Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy. “There’s a lot of pressure. There’s a lot of expectations. Especially this year when you talk about some of the names we added. We dealt with a lot of injuries. We dealt with some off-field stuff that was very unfortunate. And at the end of the day, we were able to come through.”

Against the New York Yankees in the World Series, this will set up a clash between two historic powerhouses. It will be the 12th time the Dodgers and Yankees have met in the Fall Classic, but the first since 1981.

“It sounds fun,” said Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts. “They’re obviously a good club; we obviously are, too. I think the world wanted to see this. It’s going to be fun. It’s good for baseball. It’s going to be fun.”

What’s more, despite a roster filled with star players, the Dodgers leaned on their bullpen to punch their ticket to the World Series. With no fourth starter available, the team employed a bullpen game for the third time this postseason. While their previous efforts had been mixed, this time the Dodgers’ relievers got the job done, using seven pitchers to secure the win. They allowed five runs but consistently delivered clutch pitches, stranding 13 Mets baserunners.

“Tonight is a bit of icing on the cake,” said Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips. “We still have more to do, but to know that we can come in here in a series-clinching game and have a bullpen game and have success just gives us even more confidence. We believe in each other wholeheartedly, and we just love watching each other succeed.”

Seems surreal but Dodgers and Yankees are each just four wins away from their ultimate goal, with the World Series set to begin on Friday at Dodger Stadium.

Storybook stuff for sure.

Raiders Star Wide Receiver Davante Adams Reunited With Aaron Rodgers After Surprise Trade to NY Jets

Screen Shot 2024 10 15 at 2.43.36 PM

Whelp, Aaron Rodgers seemed like he needed help with the receiving core after last night’s Monday Night Football loss to the Buffalo Bills, and now he has it. The New York Jets have officially acquired star wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

We know Adams, who’s 6-1 and weighing 215 pounds, is widely regarded as one of the best wide receivers in the league and now he’s reunited with Rodgers.

A three-time first-team All-Pro and a six-time Pro Bowler, Adams has already tallied 18 receptions, 208 yards, and a touchdown in just three games with the Raiders this season. Prior to his time in Las Vegas, the Fresno State product was drafted in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers, where he built a formidable connection with current Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Talk about a winning combo, during their eight seasons together in Green Bay, Adams and Rodgers formed one of the most dangerous duos in NFL history. The pair combined for 669 receptions, 8,121 yards, and 73 touchdowns. Adams’ standout 2020 season saw him lead the league with 18 touchdowns and 98.1 receiving yards per game, which helped Rodgers secure an MVP award. The following year, Adams set personal records with 123 receptions and 1,553 receiving yards, while also racking up 11 touchdowns as Rodgers claimed another MVP.

Get this, while speaking to reporters prior to the Jets’ Week 5 game against the Minnesota Vikings, Rodgers hinted at his strong relationship with Adams. “I don’t know how much I can say about it, there’s tampering, but I still have a close friendship with him,” Rodgers said. “We spend time in the offseason together, he’s a great guy and a great player, and the rest of that is out of my hands.”

Going back between 2017 and 2021, Adams led the NFL with 6,195 receiving yards and 57 touchdowns, ranking second in targets (731) and receptions (506) over that span. After being traded to the Raiders in March 2022, Adams continued to shine, finishing his first season in Las Vegas with 100 catches for 1,516 yards (15.2 avg) and 14 touchdowns. In 2023, he increased his reception total to 103 for 1,144 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Fans are excited as Adams now joins a Jets receiving group that includes standout Garrett Wilson and former Packers teammate Allen Lazard, along with Mike Williams. His addition further bolsters an already potent offense as the Jets push for playoff contention with Rodgers under center.

LeBron James Sets Press Boundaries On Bronny: ‘Ask Him, He’s a Grown Man’

Screen Shot 2024 10 14 at 4.37.27 PM

So we’re not going to get excessive takes on Bronny coming from his father, LeBron James. Nope, nope, nope. LeBron James Senior just set a firm boundary with the media on Monday, making it clear that he won’t be answering every question on behalf of his son, Bronny James, this season.

It went down during a media session at Lakers practice, when asked about Bronny, LeBron chose to deflect, encouraging reporters to direct their inquiries to his son instead.

“You got to ask him,” LeBron responded. “He’s a grown man, ask him how he’s handling it and we’ll go from there. He’s a grown man, he’s a professional, he can handle it.”

As you probably know, this season marks a historic milestone for the James family, as LeBron and Bronny become the first father and son to play in the NBA, and even more uniquely, potentially on the same team. While this situation highlights LeBron’s incredible longevity in the league, it also introduces new dynamics, especially when it comes to media attention.

See, it’s pretty common for players to field questions about their teammates, but it’s unusual for one player to be consistently expected to speak for another, particularly when that teammate is also family. Facts!

LeBron’s comments suggest that, while he may occasionally respond on Bronny’s behalf, he expects his son to handle most of the media attention independently.

ICYMI, LeBron and Bronny made their on-court debut together earlier in October during a preseason game against the Phoenix Suns. Bronny, however, has had a quiet preseason performance, averaging just 0.7 points, one rebound, and 0.3 assists in 11.9 minutes per game across three contests. As expected for a second-round draft pick, Bronny is likely to spend time developing in the G League before securing a regular spot in the Lakers’ rotation.

What’s more. back in July, former ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski noted that Bronny is projected to start the season with the Lakers but could transition to the South Bay Lakers, their G League affiliate, as part of his development. Bronny has shown potential as a three-and-D player during college and Summer League, but more time in the G League could be beneficial for him to refine his skills before making a consistent impact in the NBA.

NY Jets Fire Head Coach Robert Saleh After 20-36 Record, Owner’s Statement: ‘Best time for us to move in a different direction’

Screen Shot 2024 10 08 at 3.29.33 PM

Whelp, that didn’t last. The New York Jets have officially parted ways with head coach Robert Saleh. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the decision was communicated to Saleh at approximately 10 a.m. ET. Team owner Woody Johnson soon issued a statement confirming the firing and announced that defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich would serve as the interim head coach moving forward.

Saleh’s rocky tenure with the Jets, which began in 2021, was marked by challenges, and the team has started this season 2-3. Despite high expectations, Saleh was unable to deliver a winning season during his time as head coach.

Here’s the statement from Woody Johnson:

In fairness, Saleh had garnered significant attention when he was hired, following his successful four-year stint as the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. He came into the Jets organization with a clean slate but faced a significant challenge early on: the team had no established quarterback but held the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming draft. The Jets selected Zach Wilson, who ultimately did not meet expectations and became a notable disappointment for the franchise. Although it’s unclear how much input Saleh had in that draft decision, he was left to navigate the consequences.

Get this, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported that Saleh was caught off guard by his dismissal. Interesting. Team owner Woody Johnson later explained to reporters that the team’s aspirations were high, and Saleh failed to meet those expectations. Makes sense but surprise firings, if it was in fact that, always sting.

What’s more in the weeks leading up to his dismissal, there were reports of internal struggles. CBS’ Jonathan Jones reported that Saleh had been considering firing offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, a coach favored by quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, SNY TV’s Connor Hughes suggested that Saleh was only looking to demote Hackett, not dismiss him outright.

When you think about it, Saleh’s fortunes seemed to be on the upswing when the Jets traded for Aaron Rodgers before the 2023 season. Despite being 39 years old, Rodgers still had the ability to elevate the team, and Saleh finally had a top-tier quarterback to work with. However, Rodgers’ season ended abruptly when he tore his Achilles just four plays into the first game, forcing Saleh to revert to Wilson as the starter. After three years of waiting to prove himself with a capable quarterback, Saleh was only given five games with Rodgers before his tenure was cut short.

Looking back, Saleh’s time with the Jets spanned only 56 games, finishing with a 20-36 record. Reflecting on his time with the team, one can’t help but wonder how different his trajectory might have been if he had more stability at quarterback. Had he started with even a league-average quarterback instead of Wilson, would the Jets be in a different position today? That question remains unanswered, but it’s clear that the Jets’ organization had reached its limit with Saleh.

Oh, Really? Shaq Leaves LeBron Off His All Time Starting Five List

IMG 7636

Huh? Like, wait, what? Shaquille O’Neal, one of the most legendary centers of all time and Hall of Famer, recently shared his all-time NBA starting five—and it didn’t include LeBron James, a notable omission given James’ status as one of the greatest players in basketball history.

These lists are getting carried away and this one is no exception.

Naturally and deservedly so, O’Neal honored his late Lakers teammate Kobe Bryant by placing him in the lineup, he chose Julius Erving and Karl Malone, another former Laker, as his forwards. O’Neal also, unsurprisingly, picked himself for his own squad.

Obviously LeBron James is often regarded by many as the greatest or one of the top two or three players in NBA history, was left off the list despite being the league’s all-time leading scorer and displaying unmatched longevity in the game. However, James’ 4-6 record in the NBA Finals and some criticisms of his performance in clutch moments might explain why O’Neal chose Erving over him—or even why he didn’t opt for a player like Larry Bird.

Yea, yea, finals yea, yea. They need to chill and look at the entire body of work. LeBron is going into year 22 as the oldest player in the league and still a top 10, easy. But we digress.

O’Neal has been vocal about his opinions on a variety of NBA-related topics. He recently criticized Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert, labeling him as the worst player in the league, though he later clarified that his comments were influenced by Gobert’s large contract.

While O’Neal’s decision to exclude James from his all-time starting five raises questions, it also reflects the differing perspectives within the basketball world on what defines greatness.

Yawn.

Thursday Night Football Preview: Dallas Cowboys (1-2) At NY Giants (1-2)

IMG 7631

It’s Thursday night football tonight and here we go… The Dallas Cowboys will square off against the New York Giants tonight in a crucial Week 4 “Thursday Night Football” matchup in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This will mark the Cowboys’ first NFC East game of the season after playing two of their first three games against teams from the AFC. Meanwhile, the Giants will be facing their second divisional opponent, following a narrow 21-18 loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 2.

Both teams enter the contest with identical 1-2 records. Not the best shape in the hotly contested NFC East division but not the worst shape either. Interestingly, their lone victories came against the same team, the Cleveland Browns. The Cowboys opened their season with a win over Cleveland, while the Giants stunned the Browns on the road in Week 3, securing a massive upset as 6.5-point underdogs.

ICYMI, in that upset victory, the Giants unleashed an overwhelming pass rush that rattled Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. They recorded an impressive 10 sacks and generated 41 total pressures, 11 more than any other team managed in Week 3. This was a huge leap for the Giants’ defense, which had only managed 29 pressures combined in their first two games. If they can maintain this level of disruption, they could be a formidable force down the stretch.

The Cowboys, America’s team as they say, on the other hand, are coming off a disappointing loss at home to the Baltimore Ravens, where they struggled in multiple areas. Despite a late-game surge in the fourth quarter, it was too little, too late. One of the most glaring issues for Dallas has been its inability to establish a consistent running game. The Cowboys rank in the bottom five in explosive run percentage (4.8%) and yards after contact per attempt (2.2), making it hard to generate momentum on offense.

Dallas’ troubles in stopping the run are even more concerning but hopefully not the Giants from their perspective. Their first-round pick from 2023, defensive lineman Mazi Smith, has struggled, earning the lowest Pro Football Focus (PFF) run-defense grade at his position through three games (27.5). The Cowboys’ defense as a whole has allowed the league’s worst Expected Points Added (EPA) per rush at 0.261, nearly four times higher than the next worst team. These defensive struggles could make it difficult for Dallas to capitalize on their passing game, despite having star talents like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.

Get this, if Cowboys are to bounce back, they will need to find balance on offense and shore up their defensive front. As the season progresses, they can’t afford to place all the pressure on Prescott and Lamb to carry the team.

Tonight’s matchup will be available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video for fans looking to tune in to “Thursday Night Football.”

Lakers Planning For Groundbreaking On Court Debut of LeBron and Bronny James

IMG 7623

The 2024-25 NBA Season is almost here. Sheesh, that was quick and the Lakers are preparing for the historic moment when LeBron James and his son Bronny James play together on the same court. Wild!

Get this, while no firm decisions have been made, new Lakers coach JJ Redick said both LeBron and Bronny will be part of the conversation on how to approach the situation.

“We obviously have talked about it as a staff and we’ve gotten into some specifics of what that might look like,” Redick said. “But we haven’t committed to anything. And obviously, there’s a discussion to be had once we’re all together with Bronny and LeBron, too. They should be a part of that discussion as well.”

ICYMI, the Lakers drafted Bronny with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, setting the stage for the father-son duo to share the court.

As you may expect, fans are eagerly awaiting Bronny’s debut alongside LeBron, it’s uncertain when that will happen. The Lakers’ season opener is on Oct. 22 against the Timberwolves, but Bronny isn’t expected to play a major role early on, except perhaps in a ceremonial moment. If he does get playing time in the early games, it may be limited to garbage time unless he impresses during training camp. That’s fair and as it should be tbh.

Surprisingly, Redick isn’t worried balancing the situation. “I don’t look at it as a challenge,” he said. “It’s unique from any other challenge of coaching a player or coaching a relationship. Bronny, I feel very fortunate that I get to coach him because he’s young and he’s hungry, and he’s got a lot of inherent skill sets that we can really mold into a really good NBA player. On top of that, he’s a fantastic kid. He’s extremely coachable. He’s got the right spirit and energy every single day. So … it’s not something I’ve really thought of as a challenge.”

Source Sports: Derrick Rose Announces Retirement After Storied 16-Year NBA Career: “I Gave My All”

IMG 8974

Derrick Rose, the 35-year-old former NBA star, and fan favorite has officially hung up his sneakers, announcing his retirement after a 16-year journey filled with both triumphs and setbacks. Reflecting on his decision, Rose told ESPN, “Knowing that I gave my all to the game, I feel confident in my decision. Basketball was just the beginning for me. Now, it’s important that I give my all to my family — they deserve that.”

It all went down on the gram in an emotional Instagram post, Rose expressed his gratitude to basketball, the sport that defined much of his life. “Thank You, My First Love…,” he began, addressing basketball directly. “You believed in me through the highs and lows, my constant when everything else seemed uncertain. You showed me what love truly meant. You turned the court into my sanctuary, a home where I could express myself freely.”

Rose continued, “You reminded me that I could always rely on you, that in every moment of doubt, you would show me what I’m capable of. You introduced me to new places and cultures that a kid from Chicago could have never imagined. You taught me that every loss was a lesson and every win was a reason to be grateful. You offered wisdom that was not just about the game, but about life, discipline, hard work, perseverance.”

In a wow moment, Rose’s heartfelt letter was also shared in local newspapers in each of the six cities he played in during his NBA career, including Chicago, New York, Cleveland, Minnesota, Detroit, and Memphis. His final stop was with the Memphis Grizzlies, who agreed to release him from the final year of his contract, allowing him to retire on his own terms.

If you’re not a NBA fan, or know just how impactful Derrick Rose was, he burst onto the NBA scene in 2009, capturing the Rookie of the Year award and earning a spot on the All-Rookie First Team. His meteoric rise continued in 2011, when he became the youngest player in history to win the MVP award. That same year, he led the Chicago Bulls to a league-best 62-20 record and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they eventually fell to the star-studded Miami Heat led by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh.

The turning point happened when Rose suffered a devastating ACL tear during the playoffs. The injury sidelined him for the entire following season, and he never fully returned to the form that once made him an MVP. Despite this, Rose remained a valuable player and a respected veteran presence on several teams throughout the rest of his career.

Respectfully, Derrick Rose finishes his career with averages of 17.4 points and 5.2 assists per game, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and determination. Though his time on the court has come to an end, his impact on the game and the fans who followed him will endure.

Source Sports: LeBron Responds to Kwame Brown’s Weird Criticism by Trolling the Former Center: ‘No Skill’

IMG 8965

We just really need to know, why do people go after LeBron‘s game? At 39 he’s the oldest player in the NBA. Still playing at a high-level. Breaking records, still. We don’t get it… Help us understand. Maybe Kwame Brown can help us. Okay so LeBron recently responded to Kwame Brown’s weird criticism by sharing a video of himself executing flawless fadeaways and mid-range shots, showcasing his post-game skills. The 39-year-old NBA legend captioned the post with, “Another game of clips of me just running fast and running people over to the basket! No Skill,” a clear rebuttal to Brown’s comments.

Top-tier trolling, if you ask us.

LeBron has had so many of those performances we have to fill you in on what game that was way back when. The video was from LeBron’s 57-point performance for the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Washington Wizards during the 2017-18 season, following John Wall’s claims that the Cavs had purposely avoided them in the playoffs. The next day, LeBron delivered a dominant showing. Maverick Carter initially posted the video on his Instagram story, which LeBron then reshared—an indirect but effective response to Brown.

ICYMI, on the Swish Cultures podcast, Brown had remarked that even at 39, LeBron is primarily a “cut-and-slash” player who lacks a developed post-game and mid-range shot. “His game really hasn’t evolved outside of a 3 and putting his head down and going to the basket,” Brown said. “He doesn’t go like Paul Pierce, getting to a spot, pulling up. Those are the things you normally see out of a superstar player.”

What’s wild is Brown also turned his attention to LeBron’s son, Bronny, who is preparing for his debut with the Los Angeles Lakers. Brown referred to Bronny as a “poor man’s Juan Dixon” and speculated that while LeBron’s influence through Klutch Sports might keep his son in the league for a time, Bronny would need to develop point guard skills to avoid fading out. “I think he’ll bounce around… but if he doesn’t learn how to play point, he’s gonna fizzle out,” Brown added.

Some might say that’s an honest take based on a prediction that nobody knows. Others might call it hate. You be the judge.

LeBron, who is also human, although he can appear superhuman, has acknowledged that criticism can sometimes get under his skin, responded indirectly through his social media post, but Bronny has chosen not to engage. According to LeBron, Bronny takes a different approach to criticism, explaining, “He doesn’t care.” Over his 20-year career, LeBron has become accustomed to public scrutiny, but it appears his son is unfazed by the spotlight.

Philadelphia’s defense sealed the win when Reed Blankenship intercepted a pass from Derek Carr in the final minute, thwarting the league’s highest-scoring offense through the first two weeks.

Pittsburgh Steelers 20, Los Angeles Chargers 10

Nix made his third big-time throw of the season and added 47 rushing yards and a touchdown, despite two turnover-worthy plays. The Broncos’ defense outmatched Tampa Bay, shutting down their offense.

Green Bay Packers 30, Tennessee Titans 14

Malik Willis had a breakout game, guiding the Packers to a 30-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Filling in for the injured Jordan Love, Willis threw for 202 yards, rushed for 73, and scored two touchdowns. His efforts accounted for nearly all of Green Bay’s 137 first-quarter yards. Cornerback Jaire Alexander added to the Packers’ early lead with a pick-six, while their defense totaled 20 pressures and forced three turnovers.

Carolina Panthers 36, Las Vegas Raiders 22

The Carolina Panthers put together a complete performance, defeating the Las Vegas Raiders 36-22. Andy Dalton, filling in for Bryce Young, threw three touchdown passes, revitalizing the Panthers’ offense.

Seattle Seahawks 24, Miami Dolphins 3

Geno Smith led the Seattle Seahawks to a commanding 24-3 victory over the Miami Dolphins, throwing for 289 yards and a 71-yard touchdown to D.K. Metcalf. Despite two interceptions, Smith helped maintain Seattle’s lead. Zach Charbonnet added two rushing touchdowns. Miami’s quarterback struggles persisted as Skylar Thompson left with a chest injury, leaving backup Tim Boyle unable to rally a comeback.

Detroit Lions 20, Arizona Cardinals 13

The Detroit Lions leaned on their running game to close out a 20-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Jahmyr Gibbs rushed for 83 yards, while David Montgomery added 106 yards and a touchdown.

Los Angeles Rams 27, San Francisco 49ers 24

Rookie kicker Joshua Karty nailed a 37-yard field goal with seconds left to secure a 27-24 win for the Rams over the 49ers. Despite Jauan Jennings’ career-high 175 yards and three touchdowns, San Francisco couldn’t hold onto a 14-point lead.

Baltimore Ravens 28, Dallas Cowboys 25

Derrick Henry had a breakout game for the Baltimore Ravens, rushing for 151 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-25 win over the Cowboys. Though Dak Prescott rallied the Cowboys with 19 fourth-quarter points, Henry and Lamar Jackson carried the Ravens to victory.

Kansas City Chiefs 22, Atlanta Falcons 17

The Kansas City Chiefs remained undefeated with a 22-17 win over the Atlanta Falcons. The Chiefs’ defense came up big in the final moments, stopping the Falcons twice in the red zone, including a crucial fourth-and-1 tackle on Bijan Robinson. Kansas City’s defense continues to shine in critical situations, keeping their 3-0 record intact.
