Fat Joe’s Past Feud With Jay-Z Left Him Out Of A Reebok Sneaker Deal

It’s hard to imagine these days, but at the height of their careers in the 2000s, Jay-Z and Fat Joe did not get along well. Their rivalry stemmed from a basketball game that Joe’s team won via forfeit, and that he boasted about on his hit “Lean Back.” Moreover, they didn’t make up for years after, and the Terror Squad rapper recently reflected on how this beef actually ended up pushing him out of a lot of profit opportunities. After all, Hov is a business, man, and going against him even before his richest peaks meant that the industry was going to look at you sideways. While speaking to Rap Radar, Joey Crack explained how this feud got in the way of his cashflow- and how much better things are now.

“I learned the hard way, I never complained and I never said it publicly but you know I had beef with 50 Cent and Jay-Z,” Fat Joe said at the 53:47 mark of the video below. “The two most f***ing powerful dudes in the world. Reebok was gonna give me a sneaker deal and they [were like], ‘Oh you have beef with Ja7-Z and 50 Cent.’ Jordan too, ‘We can’t give you the deal.’ You know how much money, s**t was like an embargo.”

Fat Joe’s Rap Radar Appearance

Furthermore, he related this point to Melle Mel dissing Eminem, which he talked to the Grandmaster about and related it to his relationship with Mayor. “I’m not saying purposefully they was doing it, but Mayor’s not doing a deal with you if you got beef with Fat Joe,” the 53-year-old added. “So that’s the whole point I try to teach [Melle Mel] from my mistake. I said, ‘Yo bro, you don’t wanna diss him.’ What I’m saying is don’t block your blessings.”

Meanwhile, now Joe appreciates his bond with Jay so much that he left Drake off their remix of “All The Way Up” because of it. In another interview with Math Hoffa, he also remarked that things picked up for him financially when they squashed their beef. “I ain’t going lie, ever since I started f***ing with Jay-Z, I’ve been getting paid,” he stated. Reebok has unveiled its latest footwear and apparel collection, titled “FOMO Is Dead,” emphasizing durability and a lived-in aesthetic. The FOMO Is Dead collection showcases a vintage-inspired look with heritage details, providing each pair of shoes with a pre-worn appearance. Reebok aims to shift the focus from the fear of missing out (FOMO) on exclusive releases to the joy of experiencing sneakers as part of one’s daily lifestyle.

With this collection, Reebok celebrates the notion that sneakers should withstand the test of time and be embraced as versatile and functional fashion choices. The FOMO Is Dead collection invites individuals to embrace the lived-in feel and confidently wear their sneakers, letting them tell their unique stories through each scuff and mark.

Kobe Bryant x Reebok Answer IV “Free Agency” Photos Revealed

The Reebok Answer IV is an iconic basketball shoe that made its debut in 2001. Designed specifically for NBA superstar Allen Iverson, it quickly gained popularity for its unique style and performance features. Reebok Unveils Chapter 2 of New ‘Pump Universe’ Reimagined Sneakers

20230203 Reebok Pump Universe Classics Chapter 3 GW4793 Club C White Red 00445 B1

Reebok aimed to reimagine the tales behind its most storied sneakers with the release of “Pump Universe” this past February, fusing their unique design cues and placing its storied custom-fit Pump technology at the forefront. In “Chapter 1,” Allen Iverson’s Question Mid and Shaq’s patented Shaq Attaq were reimagined in exciting ways for the tennis court.

Reebok throws the emphasis on two timeless classic models in “Pump Universe” “Chapter 2,” each of which was a champion of sport and fitness in the 1980s and 1990s and has since become an essential item:

Classic Leather Pump (GW4726/ GW4727/GW4729, $110): What if Reebok’s Classic Leather first dropped in the ‘90s? This reinterpretation of the brand’s signature ‘80s running shoe draws inspiration from Instapump Fury and other classic Reebok runners with an integrated tongue Pump ball and bladder, while carrying forward OG Classic Leather design elements like an all-leather upper, Reebok wordmark window box, cross check branding, and a rubber outsole.

Club C 85 Pump (GW4793/GW4794, $110)What if Michael Chang’s Court Victory was instead a Club C? Here, the brand’s classic low-profile tennis shoe is imagined as a signature Pump model, drawing inspiration, color, and design from the iconic Court Victory, while carrying forward OG Club C design elements like a leather upper, Reebok wordmark window box, embroidered heel logo, and a rubber midsole and outsole.

Salomon had a fantastic year in 2022 with well-executed collaborations and sneakers that helped lead the ongoing gorp-core trend.

The Salomon XT-6 was one of the top sneakers of last year due to its versatile utilitarian functionality and sleek shape. Its bungee-cord lacing system and range of bright and vibrant colorways add to its appeal.

In March of 2022, Authentic Brands Group acquired Reebok from Adidas, and since then, Reebok has started to make a name for itself within the streetwear fashion world.

Collaborative drops from Nicole McLaughlin, Tyrell Winston, JJJJound, and Maison Margiela helped revitalize the brand.

As silhouettes like the Club C and Workout Plus become more popular within current trends, we can expect Reebok to revive other older silhouettes in their catalog. Keep an eye out for these on StockX.

Air Jordan 3

Pre-aged sneakers are nothing new, but Jordan Brand’s take on the trend is something special. In 2022 and 2021, people were DIY-ing their sneakers to give them a vintage look. Jordan Brand is following suit, bringing new life to some of its older and more notable colorways.

The Air Jordan 3 White Cement, which hasn’t had a true OG retro treatment since 2013’s AJ3 White Cement ’88, adds to the ongoing trend for the Jordan Brand with its yellowed accents on the heel and midsole of the sneaker. This sneaker is surely one of the top brands in 2023 on StockX.

With full Nike Air treatment on the heel tab and smooth tumbled leather uppers, it’s a reimagining of the classic sneaker and something to look forward to in the coming months.

New Balance 990v6

New Balance is a brand that continues to produce high-quality products that are both innovative and attractive, and their latest 990v6 is no exception.

The collaboration with cook-turned-rapper-turned-gym aficionado Action Bronson on the 990v6, and with other musical talents like Aminé and Jack Harlow on NB’s roster, more love for the 990v6 will surely hit the market. Keep an eye out for this trending sneaker on StockX in 2023.

Reebok Creates ‘Pump Universe’ Out of Most Historic Lines of Sneakers

H06496 D1 eCom

Reebok has released “Pump Universe,” a revisionist footwear collection that reimagines its most iconic historical sneakers, on the 32nd anniversary of Dee Brown’s historic ‘no-look’ dunk contest performance that launched the brand’s “Pump” technology into prominence. “Pump Universe” volume one, starring Question Pump and Shaq Victory Pump, will be available on Reebok.com and the Foot Locker family of brands on Feb. 17. Reebok.com now sells the “Pump Universe” Legacy Lifter III Pump.

What if Reebok’s game-changing “Pump” technology was included into all of its shoes? What if the Blacktop series was about tennis? What if Club C 85 was truly released in 1995? “Pump Universe” will investigate these other realities in two chapters.

“Pump Universe” chapter 1 rewrites the history of Allen Iverson’s trademark Question and the training staple Legacy Lifter III, while Shaq’s signature Shaq Attaq crosses over to the tennis court, led by the introduction of Pump technology to three essential Reebok sport and training models.

Throughout the collection, “Pump Universe” design identifiers include a new “RBK” logo, a unique peeled-back Pump ball, hybrid athlete brand logos, and more.

Descriptions of each release and the supporting imagery are below.

Question Pump (H06496, $180): What if Allen Iverson was a dunk contest champ? This is the shoe he would’ve worn. Question “Pump” brings high-flyer energy to AI’s signature rookie model from ’96 with an imaginative Pump Omni Zone II-inspired upper and a hybrid “Q” x Dee Brown no-look dunk logo.

Shaq Victory Pump (H06494, $180): What if Shaq battled Michael Chang at Wimbledon? In this alternate reality, Shaq’s first signature basketball shoe from ’92 is rewritten for the pitch with a blended Shaq Attaq and Court Victory upper, Court Victory midsole and outsole, new “RBK” branding, and a revised Shaq tennis logo.

Legacy Lifter III Pump (HR0428, $220): No two feet are alike. Whether three pumps or ten, PUMP technology applied to Legacy Lifter III offers a customizable and locked-in fit ensuring confidence when it’s needed most, before stepping up to that big lift. Classic color blocking remembers Pump’s past, while an innovative mid-foot strap, injected TPU underfoot, and a rigid midsole together provide best-in-class support.

50 Cent & G-Unit’s Reebok Collab Almost Outsold Jordan’s, Claims Reebok CEO

50 Cent and G-Unit were running the game back in the early 2000s. They were driving culture forward, and it had numerous brands wanting to work for them. Eventually, Fif signed a massive deal with Reebok which made him one of the faces of the brand.

Additionally, he got his very own G-Unit sneaker with the brand. These were huge back in the day, and every single G-Unit member was wearing them. This had numerous people buying into the hype, and it was impossible to escape these kicks.

50 Cent & Reebok Vs. Jordan Brand

During the early 2000s, Reebok wanted to defeat Jordan Brand in the marketplace. This was always going to be next to impossible, however, they tried. In an interview, with Complex, Reebok CEO Todd Krinsky revealed just how close the brand came to toppling Jordan’s empire.

“We were selling like, you know, 40-50,000 per color at a time. I remember that back-to-school, we sold on one color, like 75,000 pairs,” Krinsky said. “I’m not saying, by the way, that G-Unit was ever close to Jordan in any way. I’m saying that one moment in time, that one colorway, I think we sold in almost as many pairs as the Jordan launch for that period.” He added, “[50 Cent] was always saying how many Jordans sell this week. I’m telling you, he was literally asking that every week or every time we had a meeting.”

Even though they weren’t able to surpass Jordan Brand, it was a valiant effort. The G-Unit shoes will forever be remembered for their impact on culture, and you can never take that away from Reebok.

Reebok to Release ‘Shaq Attaq’ Sneaker to Celebrate 30th Anniversary of Shaq’s First Signature Shoe

Reebok to Release 'Shaq Attaq' Sneaker to Celebrate 30th Anniversary of Shaq's First Signature Shoe

Reebok has announced that Shaquille O’Neal’s coveted “Shaq Attaq” sneaker will make a comeback on September 23. This comes as Reebok continues to highlight its extensive basketball archive through the likes of Allen Iverson’s Question and Answer lines, the revolutionary Hurrikaze and Hurrikaze II, Dee Brown’s Pump Omni Zone II, and more.

Shaq’s first signature shoe was the “Shaq Attaq,” which former Reebok designer Judy Close produced for the outsized rookie sensation in 1992. The design showcased Reebok’s creative approach to performance footwear by combining new “Shaq” branding components with cutting-edge Reebok technologies like a custom-fit Pump bladder and carbon fiber footplate. The footwear, most importantly, gave Shaq the best-in-class stability and comfort on the court as he destroyed countless rims, backboards, and records.

Arriving in adult unisex sizing, “Shaq Attaq” is set for an official global launch on September 23 from Reebok.com/basketballSnipesThe Athlete’s Foot, and other select retailers. You can see the sneaker below.
