2024 BET Hip-Hop Awards Nominees: Megan Thee Stallion Leads The Pack

Today, the full list of nominees for the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards was finally unveiled. The awards ceremony will air on BET on October 15 of this year and will be taped earlier that month. Once again, Fat Joe will be taking over the responsibility of hosting. This will be the NYC icon’s third year in a row to do so, and fans can’t wait.

“Joe Crack is back for the 3-peat, night night baby,” he declared. “It’s been a dream to host the ‘BET Hip Hop Awards’ the past few years and I’m looking forward to taking things to the next level in Las Vegas. We’re going to be in a new city and location, but the excitement and entertainment at the awards will be even bigger than ever.”

BET Unveils 2024 Hip-Hop Awards Nominees

Leading the pack with the most nominations this year is none other than Megan Thee Stallion with 12. These include three nods in the Best Collaboration category, one for Hip-Hop Artist of the Year, and more. This is no surprise, considering the major year she had with the release of her album Megan and her “Hot Girl Summer” tour. Coming in behind Meg with 11 nominations is Kendrick Lamar, who had a similarly huge year. His Drake diss tracks continue to top the charts months after their feud mostly fizzled out. He’s also in the running for Hip-Hop Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Video of the Year, and more.

Of course, behind Kendrick is Drake with eight nominations, followed by Cardi B, GloRilla, Metro Boomin, Nicki Minaj, and more. Check out the full list below. Drake Leads BET Award Nominations: Full List Of Nominees Revealed

While Drake just seems to have lost the biggest rap battle since Jay-Z and Nas, he’s got some good news to distract himself with this month. Moreover, with seven nominations, he leads the 2024 BET Awards nominees, with Young Money partner Nicki Minaj right behind him with six nominations. J. Cole, Victoria Monét, Sexyy Red, and SZA have five each, whereas Usher, Beyoncé, 21 Savage, Doja Cat, Tyla, and Megan Thee Stallion have four each. This year’s ceremony will air live on Sunday, June 30 at 8PM EST from Los Angeles on the BET network. With these stars and more in mind, this should make for a pretty stellar event.

Moreover, BET also confirmed the first wave of performers for the 2024 awards show: GloRilla, Shaboozey, Muni Long, Latto, Sexyy Red, and Victoria Monét. In addition, “Album Of The Year” contenders this year will provide an interesting race. These are Usher’s Coming Home, 21 Savage’s American Dream, Drake’s For All The Dogs deluxe, Victoria Monét’s Jaguar II, Gunna’s A Gift & A Curse, Chris Brown’s 11:11, Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2, and Killer Mike’s MICHAEL.

Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me,” Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Tyla’s “Water,” Drake’s “Rich Baby Daddy” with SZA and Sexyy Red, Victoria Monét’s “On My Mama,” Doja Cat’s “Agora Hills,” Lil Durk and J. Cole’s “All My Life,” Gunna’s “Fukumean,” Chris Brown’s “Sensational” with Davido and Lojay, and Muni Long’s “Made For Me.” On another note, Drake, Burna Boy, and Doja Cat are nominated in their respective gendered categories for both best R&B/pop artist and best hip-hop artist.

Meanwhile, for those unaware, the BET Voting Academy determined these nominations, which is a collective of entertainment figures across the many fields that these awards summarize. Voting begins on June 6 and ends the day of the ceremony. Diddy Should Be Banned From The 2024 Grammys, Women’s Rights Group Claims

Recently, the women’s rights group UltraViolet argued that the Recording Academy should ban Diddy from the 2024 Grammys. Their statement comes amid the fourth sexual assault lawsuit Diddy’s been hit with in recent weeks. According to them, the Grammys should take a firm stance on the matter for the sake of survivors, and for the #MeToo movement.

“We are deeply disturbed and concerned by the recent allegations of sexual abuse, sex trafficking of a minor and domestic violence made against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs over the past three weeks,” their statement reads. “The gravity of the allegations against Combs underscore the ongoing need for accountability — and that the #MeToo movement is relevant and badly needed more than ever.”

UltraViolet Wants Diddy Kicked From The Grammys

“Not surprisingly,” they also add, “almost all of Combs’ brands have dropped him for his abusive and inexcusable behavior. But last month, the Grammys awarded Combs with his first-ever nomination as a lead artist in one of the two R&B album categories. We are calling on the Grammys to stop enabling abusers and to immediately rescind Combs’ nomination and invitation. Survivors don’t need to see that.” They go on, noting how challenging it can be for victims of abuse to come forward. UltraViolet emphasizes how for this reason among others, they “deserve our attention and our respect.”

Most recently, Diddy has been accused by an anonymous woman of gang-raping her, along with Harve Pierre and another unnamed man. The alleged assault took place in 2003, when she was only 17 years old. Diddy has since denied the allegations, claiming that amid his various sexual assault lawsuits, “Enough is enough.” What do you think of women’s advocacy group UltraViolet pushing for Diddy to get banned from the 2024 Grammys? Do you agree with them? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Robert Glasper Thinks Chris Brown Dance-Off Could Solve Grammys Beef

Earlier this year, Chris Brown took aim at Robert Glasper after the artist secured a Grammy for Best R&B Album, which he was also nominated for. He claimed that he didn’t even know who Glasper was, sparking a great deal of backlash. “Y’all playing. Who da f*ck is this?” he asked, adding, “Who the f–k is Robert Glasper. I’ma keep kicking y’all a** respectfully.”

Amid the fallout, Chris Brown apologized to Glasper, claiming that the two of them should have been in different categories. “Congratulations my brother,” he began. “I would like to apologize if you took offense to my reaction at the Grammys. You were not the intended target and I know I came off really rude and mean,” he said. “After doing my research I actually think your amazing… THE ORGANIZATION ISNT DOING US BLACKS OUR DUE DILIGENCE.” Now, the two of them are going head to head once again, this time in the Best R&B Performance category.

Robert Glasper On Being Nominated For Same Category As Chris Brown Again

TMZ recently chatted with Glasper, asking him how he feels about being nominated alongside Breezy again after what happened last time. According to him, “this time around, there’s only one way to do this… a dance-off.” He also added that Chris Brown doesn’t want any of his dancing “smoke.”

“Me and Breezy square up in the middle of a ring and just dance it out,” he suggested. “You already know what it is.” Jokes aside, Glasper then noted that he has no hard feelings towards Chris Brown these days, even claiming that he would be open to working with him in the future. “He’s an amazing artist,” he said. “He just had a moment and I’m not taking it personal.” What do you think of Robert Glasper challenging Chris Brown to a dance-off? What about them both being nominees for Best R&B Performance? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

To be awarded the Song Of The Year at the Grammys is no small feat. In fact, it’s considered one of the “Big Four” for a reason — it is a highly competitive category. At the upcoming 2024 Grammys, eight tracks will be up for the prestigious award. From the chart-topping “Kill Bill” by SZA, to Miley Cyrus’ breakup anthem, “Flowers,” it’s anyone’s guess who will win.

According to the Grammys, the Song of the Year is awarded to a song’s artist and songwriters “without regard to album sales or chart position.” The latter claim is one that can be justified by last year’s win. At the 2023 Grammys, veteran blues singer Bonnie Raitt took home the Song of the Year award for the single, “Just Like That,” which proved to be quite the controversy. Nonetheless, four out of the latest nominations have peaked atop the Billboard Hot 100. This year, it’s relatively up in the air who will win, but these are the tracks competing for the award.

“Anti-Hero” – Taylor Swift

With “Anti-Hero,” Taylor Swift surpassed Paul McCartney and Lionel Richie to become the most nominated artist in the category, with seven nominations. However, she has yet to win the award in the past. Nonetheless, “Anti-Hero,” the lead single off her tenth album, Midnights, is undoubtedly a favorite in the category. The record-breaking single topped the charts around the world and spent eight weeks atop the Hot 100. Swift shares the nomination with her friend and longtime collaborator, Jack Antonoff.

“Dance The Night” – Dua Lipa

The Barbie movie was a gargantuan success. Additionally, the movie’s soundtrack also became inescapable, especially on TikTok and on the radio. The first song released from Barbie: The Album was “Dance the Night,” by Dua Lipa. The disco-fueled club staple is all about dancing the night away, despite life’s challenges. At the upcoming 2024 Grammys, it’s nominated for Song of the Year, as well as Best Song Written for Visual Media. Besides Dua Lipa, Andrew Wyatt, Caroline Ailin and Mark Ronson are also up for the award for their songwriting contributions.

“Flowers” – Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus’ chart-topping hit single, “Flowers” has become a newfound anthem of singlehood. Evidently, its success was going to lead to a Grammy nod, so her Song of the Year nomination comes as no surprise. Furthermore, Cyrus and the track’s producers and engineers are also up for Record of the Year, among other nominations. “Flowers” quickly became Cyrus’ biggest hit of her career, spending eight weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100. It also topped the charts around the world, including the UK, Portugal, Japan, Brazil, Canada, and more.

“Kill Bill” – SZA

SZA is officially the most nominated artist at the upcoming 2024 Grammys. The R&B songstress made history with her acclaimed sophomore album, SOS, which broke numerous records. In a similar fashion, “Kill Bill” became a monumental success. The smash hit centers on SZA’s jealousy after her ex gets with a new girl. “Kill Bill” is also nominated for Record of the Year, as well as Best R&B Performance. Moreover, the song is also the longest-running number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, spending a staggering 21 weeks in the peak position.

“Vampire” – Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo’s comeback did not disappoint her hungry fans. After the success of her debut project, Sour, her sophomore album became widely anticipated. The first single released from Guts was “Vampire,” which debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100. Overall, “Vampire” is a song about Rodrigo’s dissatisfaction with an unknown man, who treated her unfairly. The dramatic tune starts off tame, before sinking into a heavy pop-rock power ballad, and the songwriting cheekily references vampires and their lore. Rodrigo co-wrote the song with producer Dan Nigro. Furthermore, the pair are also up for the Record of the Year award for the same track.

“Butterfly” – Jon Batiste

Jon Batiste and co-writer Dan Wilson are both up for the Song of the Year award at the 2024 Grammys, for the beautiful track, “Butterfly.” The moving single was written to reference his wife’s strength amid battling a serious health condition. After several Grammy nods and wins, “Butterfly” marks Batiste’s first nomination in the Song of the Year category.

“What Was I Made For?” – Billie Eilish

Barbie: The Album is filled with many memorable tracks. Furthermore, at the 2024 Grammys, two songs from the project are up for Song of the Year. Billie Eilish’s introspective single, “What Was I Made For?” is one of the two, and is also up for Record of the Year. Like most of her accolades, she shares the nomination with her brother and longtime partner, FINNEAS, who she co-wrote the song with.

“A&W” – Lana Del Rey

“A&W” is the second single from Lana Del Rey’s ninth album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. While the single wasn’t a commercial triumph, it was critically lauded for its experimentation and maturity. Lana Del Rey shares the nomination with Jack Antonoff, as well as singer-songwriter Sam Dew, the latter of which also contributed background vocals.

2023 BET Awards: Best Male R&B/Pop Artist Nominees

We’re deep-diving into the 2023 BET Awards as the ceremony is right around the corner. There are heavy hitters across all categories, but the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist collection is stacked to the brim. The “Culture’s Biggest Night,” as BET calls it, is a celebration of all things related to Black entertainment. Here, we’re revisiting the talents of seven hitmakers with careers that aspiring hopefuls could only beg for.

From Blxst, who has been dominating as a force from the West Coast, to Drake, who needs no introduction, to Chris Brown, who is in the middle of a Michael Jackson-King of Pop debate among fans—this category has brought out the big leagues. Take a deeper look at the artists desiring to take home the BET trophy, and let us know who you think deserves the crown.

Blxst

Blxst is a dynamic talent hailing from Los Angeles, and he’s been captivating fans with his hybrid Rap-R&B sound. His breakthrough occurred in 2019 with the single “Hurt,” followed by the release of his acclaimed debut EP, No Love Lost, in 2020. Its success propelled him to launch his own independent record label, Evgle.

Blxst continued his musical ascend with his 2021 album No Love Lost (Deluxe), which secured a spot in Billboard’s Top 200, a nod to his rising popularity. The South Central native’s meteoric rise and distinctive sound leave an indelible mark on the contemporary music scene. It has made him one of the most exciting artists to watch in today’s Hip Hop landscape.

Brent Faiyaz

Brent Faiyaz is an artist synonymous with soulful R&B. Launching his solo career in 2016, Faiyaz quickly gained a following with his passionate vocals. His EP A.M. Paradox was a critical success, setting the stage for his compelling 2017 debut album Sonder Son. Subsequent releases, including the 2020 project F*ck The World, continued to resonate with listeners. It also helped him earn him spots on Billboard‘s R&B charts.

Running his independent label, Lost Kids, Faiyaz has crafted his path in the industry. He’s been able to preserve his authentic sound while pushing creative boundaries. Recognition for his talent is widespread; his feature on GoldLink’s “Crew” garnered a Grammy nomination in 2017. The 2023 BET Awards have further highlighted his contribution to the R&B genre, confirming his status as a leading voice in contemporary music. With each release, Faiyaz continues to captivate audiences with his poignant sound.

Burna Boy

Nigerian megastar Burna Boy has been a leading force in the global Afrobeats movement. His unique fusion of various genres has resulted in a successful international career. Burna Boy has consistently delivered chart-topping hits since his breakout studio album L.I.F.E in 2013. Further, his fourth album African Giant received a Grammy nomination. His triumph was affirmed with the 2020 release Twice As Tall, which won Best Global Music Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.

He operates under his independent label, Spaceship Entertainment, though he’s also aligned with Atlantic Records and Warner Music. His remarkable string of accolades includes multiple wins at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, BET Awards, and MTV Europe Music Awards. As one of the leading figures in the 2023 BET Awards, Burna Boy’s influence and dominance in the music scene remain undeniable.

Chris Brown

Megastar Chris Brown has become one of the defining voices in modern R&B. Recognized for his soulful vocal range and stellar dance moves, Brown has released ten studio albums as of 2023. He boasts numerous chart-topping singles such as “Kiss Kiss,” “With You,” and “No Guidance.” His first album, the 2005 self-titled Chris Brown, went double Platinum, and subsequent albums like Exclusive and F.A.M.E. solidified his status.

He signed with Jive Records initially but later moved to RCA Records. Despite controversy, Brown has amassed an impressive collection of accolades, including a Grammy for Best R&B Album for F.A.M.E., an array of BET Awards, and several Billboard Music Awards. Ahead of the 2023 BET Awards, it’s clear that Chris Brown’s music continues to be a significant force, influencing the landscape of contemporary R&B and beyond.

Drake

Drizzy has been a monumental figure in the global music industry since his debut in 2009. As a rapper, singer, and songwriter, Drake has released seven studio albums, including the critically acclaimed Take Care and Views. Each album has resulted in numerous chart-topping hits, such as “Hotline Bling,” “God’s Plan,” and “In My Feelings.”

Originally with Young Money Entertainment, he later founded his own label, OVO Sound, an imprint of Warner Records. His unique fusion of Hip Hop and R&B, coupled with introspective lyrics, earned him several prestigious awards, including several Grammys. As we approach the 2023 BET Awards, Drake continues to shape the music scene, leaving an unforgettable mark on the industry.

The Weeknd

Another Canadian artist who became a global sensation is The Weeknd. He has established himself as one of the most influential artists of the past decade. The R&B sensation emerged in 2010 with a series of mixtapes later compiled into the Trilogy compilation album. He has released five highly successful albums, with Starboy and After Hours cementing his place atop the charts.

His signature falsetto and moody lyrics have consistently reached the top of the Billboard charts. Most notably with the record-breaking hit “Blinding Lights.” Signed under his own label, XO, as well as Republic Records, The Weeknd’s blend of Pop, R&B, and Electronic music has garnered him numerous accolades, including multiple Grammy wins. As we look forward to the 2023 BET Awards, The Weeknd remains a significant force in the industry, continually pushing musical boundaries.

Usher

Usher is a name that is consistently in the King of R&B conversations. His career began in the 1990s, and throughout his career, he has released nine studio albums, including the Diamond-certified Confessions, which catapulted him to a new sphere of stardom. With a remarkable track record of chart-topping hits such as “Yeah!,” “Burn,” and “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love,” Usher’s discography highlights his enduring relevance in the music industry.

He spent most of his career with LaFace Records and its successor, RCA Records. Unsurprisingly, Usher has earned himself an array of prestigious accolades, including a bevy of Grammy Awards. In anticipation of the 2023 BET Awards, Usher’s influential legacy and continuing contributions to R&B music spotlight his standing as a genre’s cornerstone.
