Neighboring Akron, Ohio took over the scene of NBA All-Star in Cleveland as Stephen Curry dropped 50 points and LeBron James hit the game-winner to secure a 163-160 win for Team LeBron. Curry would be named MVP.
āIt was kind of a perfect ending,ā Curry said to ESPN. āObviously, I got the MVP; I played well the whole night. He hit the game-winner. All the history of our series and the Akron ties, and all that kind of going into how the night went, so it was pretty ā canāt really draw it up any other way.ā
In the game, Curry hit 16 3-pointers, smashing the All-Star Game record of nine set by Russell Westbrook. Included in that number was an absurd jumper from near halfcourt, which Curry faked out Trae Young before launching and running back up the court before it even went in.
For King James, the game-closing jumper over Zach Lavine secured a proper homecoming.
āI couldnāt have dreamt it,ā James said in postgame. āI could not have dreamed of that moment any better than the actuality that just happened. For me to be back here, like I keep stating, 35 minutes [north] of where I grew up here in Akron, Ohio, to hit the game-winner in the All-Star Game where me and my guys back in the back, we used to watch the All-Star Game. I remember 25 years ago we were 12, 11, wishing that we had the opportunity or the means to come up to Cleveland and see some of the greatest basketball players of all time because they inspired us so much.ā
In the game Joel Embiid would score 36, Giannis Antetokounmpo added 30, and Devin Booker 20.
NBA All-Star Game Weekend is upon us and DJ Khaled is 100 percent in Cleveland to attend the festivities. Earlier today, he took the NBA All-Star Skills Challenge course for a test drive, presumably warming it up for the three teams of the Antetokounmpo brothers, Cavaliers players, and rookies. Watching Khaled, decked out in a leather jacked and countless layers of iced out diamond necklaces, was a thrill.
He starts dribbling around the barriers, showing the ability to handle the rock with both right and left hands. He crosses over past the final obstacle before pulling up for a jump shot.
Only two attempts to make the shot? This man can take Russ spot
Clearly bogged down by the pounds of stones around his neck, his first shot was an airball. But never discouraged, he demands the ball back ā āIt donāt matter!ā ā he then pulls up again and swishes his second attempt triumphantly.
āDo not give up,ā he says to the camera. āDonāt get discouraged. If you fall, get up. You keep going. I couldāve made it on the first shot, but thereās so much ice on me!ā
The truly inspirational performance from DJ Khaled. One Twitter commenter was impressed with how quickly he sank the bucket, saying āOnly two attempts to make the shot? This man can take Russ spot [crying laughing emojis]ā Oh, the shade.

Watch the video of DJ Khaledās skills on Twitter above. The actual Taco Bell NBA All Star Skills Challenge is the first event on Saturday, 02/19, beginning at 5 p.m. PST. The 2022 NBA All-Star Game itself is on Sunday at 5 p.m. PST.
The NBA announced its reserves for the 2022 All-Star Game on Thursday evening and, while there is always talk of āsnubsā and what went wrong with the selections, it is also a time for celebration. For Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet, that was very much the case, as the 27-year-old earned his first selection, earning the nod after a stellar first half of the 2021-22 season. The Raptors were set to take the floor for a home game just as the All-Star picks came down, meaning he had to focus on the task at hand, but that didnāt stop Drake from congratulating VanVleet before tipoff.
Even with fans limited, or even non-existent, at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Drake has been present in support of the Raptors, and that continues here. The timing also worked quite well, as the game tipped off just moments after the official announcement, and VanVleet (due to alphabetical order) was the last player named by TNT.
In addition to the franchiseās most prominent fan showing love, the Raptors have unleashed a full-fledged campaign for VanVleet, all the way down to a āFreddie All-Starā moniker on the teamās local broadcast. VanVleet has clearly earned the All-Star nod with his play, though, averaging 21.5 points and 7.0 assists per game with impressive defense and three-point shooting (39.1 percent). It is always fun to see a first-time selection rewarded, and VanVleet received quite the congratulatory welcome here.
Last summer, I wrote a piece about rappers who moonlight as amateur basketball players based on their Instagram posts showcasing their workouts. When I interview Louisville, Kentucky upstart Jack Harlow about his upcoming B/R Open Run showdown with fellow rap ballers 2 Chainz, Lil Baby, and Quavo, I blame Jackās absence from that list on the dearth of hoops-related content on his Instagram page.
Save for a post promoting the song celebrating his fellow cultural outsider, āTyler Herro,ā Jack doesnāt like to advertise his roundball prowess, despite hailing from one of the sportās legendary basketball loci. In fact, one of the few posts depicting Harlow actually playing basketball is the oldest one on his page, a grainy photo from spring 2014 of Jack defending a brawny player in what looks to be a local gym. Despite his opponentās choice of athletic apparel ā it looks very much like heās playing basketball in jeans ā Jack is the one who looks out of place, with his curly hair, baggy gym clothes, glasses, and yes, because of that glaringly obvious difference between the two men. Itās one Jack isnāt shy about pointing out, either in his music or his interviews ā again, see āTyler Herro.ā
He tells me the story behind the photo as we discuss his next upcoming hoops project. The Bleacher Report event will take place during TNTās NBA All-Star pregame coverage airing Sunday, March 7 at 5 pm ET. Harlow and fellow rap-hooper Quavo will play a game of 2-on-2 against 2 Chainz and Lil Baby ā first to 21 wins. The winners will choose an HBCU to receive a donation, while the broadcast will be hosted by Taylor Rooks and DJed by LVRN DJ Kitty Cash.
During our interview, Harlow accuses me of being biased for the other team, but like everyone watching Sunday, Iām just rooting for a good game. I also find out heās never seen White Men Canāt Jump, what he brings to the court, and whether he and Quavo have a strategy for beating the 6ā7 2 Chainz.
How did this partnership come about? Why did you want to participate in this two-on-two with Quavo, 2 Chainz, Lil Baby, and Bleacher Report?
You know Iām a basketball guy, so anything involving basketball I at least keep an ear open to, and I heard there was some money involved and I like money. So thereās a few incentives.
As far as how the teams are broken up, what made you want Quavo as opposed to one of the other guys?
Well, I didnāt choose my teammate, but I got to say, Iām very happy with who I got [Ed. note: Quavo has been NBA Celebrity Game MVP]. Out of the three other players, that would be my number one choice because he brings something to the game, based on everything Iāve seen on YouTube, that I donāt bring to the game. Heās a shooter, he seemed like a ball handler. I like his confidence on the court and I think Iām going to be complimenting him perfectly with my game and some of my grit. And Iām going to let him cut.
What would you say you bring to the team?
Grit, determination, anger, passion.
I feel like these are all euphemisms for youāre going to play hard and try to D-Up. Is that whatās happening?
Theyāre euphemisms for weāre going to win.
I donāt know if youāre an Uproxx reader, but last summer I did a listicle about rappers who play ball, but I based them off entirely on Instagram.
I noticed I was left out of that.
When I was researching, I kicked myself because I was like, āOh Jack Harlowās not on here.ā Then I realized you donāt have anything on your Instagram about hoops, except for one thing. I scrolled all the way back to the very beginning, the very first picture is you and some guy, heās playing in jeans. I need to know this story. I feel like the world needs to know this story.
Thatās a classic image. Yeah, I think that might be my first picture on my IG. I used to go up to this community center where Iām from called Douglas Community Center. Itās in the highlands of Louisville, Kentucky. And it was kind of a place where everyone would meet after school, people from all over the city. It was just a good place to play because it was a gym that was open every day. You canāt get that everywhere. And this dude that was in the picture with me, started showing up and I think he had six, seven, eight years on all of us; we were all in high school, sophomores, juniors. And he would just come and destroy high schoolers, myself included. But he made me better because of it. I canāt even remember his name, but he was dominant.
He played in jeans, he had to be. You are not necessarily the typical person that you would look and be like, āOh, he plays ball and he raps,ā which is obviously something you reference on āTyler Herro.ā How often do you get called Billy Hoyle?
Literally not one time in my life.
Never?
Iād never heard that name.
I am so upset. I get called every light-skinned basketball player in the world, and you donāt get Billy Hoyle. Have you seen White Men Canāt Jump?
No. Thatās one of the movies that the entire culture grills me for not having seen. And Iām doing my best man, Iāve seen Boyz N The Hood, Iāve watched all these movies, man. I canāt see them all.
You can, weāre in a pandemic. You have nothing better to do.
I need to see White Men Canāt Jump, just for the title alone.
Is that the name of the white guy in the movie?
His name is Billy Hoyle. It was Woody Harrelson. Heās actually a killer. Heās a sharpshooter from beyond the line. I think he might actually be part of where that āwhite boys are shootersā stereotype comes from. Have you ever played with any of these guys before?
The four weāre playing with? No, Iāve just studied their game.
Do you have a strategy?
Iāve watched the film. You strike me as a 2 Chainz fan, man.
I strike you as a 2 Chainz fan?
Yeah. You donāt have to tell me, brother. I just tried to figure out why youāre going for 2 Chainz and Lil Baby.
Iām not going for 2 Chainz and Lil Baby. Iām asking you if you have a strategy. I got to do my journalistic due diligence. What would you say is the most surprising thing about the leap that youāve made over that period of time from Confetti to Thatās What They All Say?
I havenāt been surprised yet.
Okay, I like that. Thatās confidence right there.
I wish I could give you an answer, bro. I wish I could give you an answer.
Whatās next for you, man? Youāve got your all-star thing. Youāre doing basketball. Whatās next on the music front?
Iām about to take over this whole sh*t, man. I got a lot of good music in the can, but Iām going to let my album cook for awhile. We got some videos to drop. We just going to keep doing this. The next time we talk, thereās going to be great things that have happened.
The next time we talk Iām going to ask you one question. Itās going to be, āHave you seen it yet?ā And I better hear a yes.
Next time we talk, what you need to do is ask me how that million felt.
