Ginuwine Fell Off The Stage During His Lovers & Friends Set, Nearly Taking Out His ASL Interpreter

Lovers & Friends Festival returned to Las Vegas this weekend, bringing classic artists such as 50 Cent, Missy Elliott, and Usher to the stage in the desert for nostalgic fans. While past festivals had been interrupted by various issues, this year’s iteration went off without a hitch — almost.

There was one set that did feature an unfortunately timed faux pas. Ginuwine, best known for hits like “In Those Jeans,” “Pony,” and “So Anxious,” took a tumble as he performed “In Those Jeans,” nearly pulling down his sign language interpreter in the process.

Ginuwine himself took the hiccup in stride, posting a video on Instagram teasing himself for the spill. “I buss my ass,” he wrote. “I am constantly laughing with the funnies but we right back at it. Next year im windmillin so don’t mis it.” In the video, he’s all smiles as he jokes about it with his crew in the car, even singing a bar of Donnie McClurkin’s gospel classic “We Fall Down.”

There was one other incident over the weekend that could have cast a pall over the festival. On Friday, rumors circulated online that Chris Brown got into a physical altercation with the festival’s host, Usher, after a run-in in a nightclub. But Usher hit the stage with no trouble throughout the festival, even bringing out Ari Lennox for a surprise appearance.

Where Is Lovers And Friends’ 2023 Festival Location?

Gear up, Y2K music fans, the Lovers and Friends festival is back! The annual music and arts festival, which was once a fever dream, is finally being made into reality. The one-day event will feature performances by some of the biggest names in R&B, hip hop, and soul music. Artists like 50 Cent, Missy Elliott, and Usher are expected to hit the stage. The festival will take place on May 6 at the Las Vegas festival grounds.

Current artists like Summer Walker, Jhene Aiko, and Miguel are also expected to appear.

The first iteration of the festival has come a long way. In 2020, the event was listed as taking place in Carson, California. Numerous artists on the original lineup initially denied their involvement. But demand for the show only increased, causing the tickets to skyrocket, even prompting the organizers to add a second day. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was put on hold.

However, in 2022, a revamped version of the festival returned.

Sad to say, it didn’t go so well — logistics were a mess, many fans were left without shade or water in the 100-plus-degree desert heat, and there were reports of gunfire, which led to a stampede, leaving a few folks with minor injuries.

50 Cent, Missy Elliott, And Usher Will Headline Lovers And Friends Festival When It Returns This Spring

Like Aaliyah once said, “If at first, you don’t succeed, you can brush it off and try again.” That seems to be the strategy the Lovers And Friends Festival is going with this spring (you just know Aaliyah herself would have been on the lineup), bringing back the nostalgic event for a second attempt at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds on May 6. Today, the fest announced its millennial-baiting lineup, which features TRL faves like Missy Elliott, 50 Cent, Mariah Carey, and of course, the fest’s inspiration, Usher, whose 2004 hit is the festival’s namesake.

Unfortunately, Lovers And Friends Festival has had a bumpy road so far, starting with its first planned iteration in Carson, California in 2020. Numerous artists on the original lineup initially denied their involvement after the show was announced before their respective booking agents let them know they were on the c/o 2000 fever dream lineup. Once they were confirmed, demand for tickets skyrocketed, prompting the organizers to add a second day before the COVID-19 pandemic put the kibosh on the whole event.

However, a revamped version of the festival came back in 2022, moving to Las Vegas and reverting back to a one-day fest. This turned out to be kind of a bad idea, as logistics for the fest were kind of a mess, leaving fans without shade or water in the 100-plus-degree desert heat (which tends to go the other way at night, leaving fans freezing instead). Then, there were reports of gunfire, causing stampedes and thankfully minor injuries.

Hopefully, they can learn from those mistakes as they return this spring and give fans the show they deserve because as an elder millennial (or Xennial or whatever you call us), I for one am extremely tired of having the rug pulled out from under me. Let us have something nice, for once. Please and thanks.
