Queen Latifah Sides With Lil Nas X After He Was Snubbed From The 2022 BET Awards: ‘He Should’ve Been Nominated’

Earlier this week, the BET Awards unveiled the list of nominations for its upcoming show later this month. Doja Cat led the way with six nominations in categories that include best female R&B/pop artist, best female hip-hop artist, and album of the year. Elsewhere, Ari Lennox and Drake were tied for the second-most nominations as they can both be found in four categories. With that being said, there was a glaring absence in the list of nominees, with that being Lil Nas X, and fans were not happy about it. Lil Nas himself expressed his frustration at the snub in a pair of now-deleted tweets.

“Thank you bet awards,” he wrote in one of the tweets. “An outstanding zero nominations again. black excellence!” He later added, “I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible.” Many agreed that Lil Nas should’ve been nominated, including Queen Latifah, who shared her thoughts after a run-in with TMZ.

“Lil Nas X is amazing,” she said. “He should’ve been nominated.” Despite this, Latifah didn’t seem to think that his sexuality was behind the snub. “I don’t know if that’s the case. I don’t know what’s behind all that, but inclusion is always the key. That’s what we should be striving for. There’s enough room in this world for everybody.”

Lil Nas X Claps Back At BET Awards For Snub, Setting Off Pride Month With Drama

Snubbed by the BET yet again, Lil Nas X took to Twitter to vent his frustrations.  This is not the first time that BET has been accused of overlooking queer Black artists. It’s only two days into Pride Month and Lil Nas X took to Twitter to vent his frustrations about being snubbed by BET […]

Lil Nas X’s Facebook Was Hacked With Anti-Pride Messages, But He’s Actually Amused

As a committed online troll himself, Lil Nas X can certainly appreciate a good zinger — even if he’s the butt of the joke. Although he was shut out at the Grammys this year, he was able to turn that misfortune on its head, and while he certainly doesn’t seem to like also not receiving any BET Award nominations, he was able to take the disappointment in stride. More recently, Nas’ Facebook page was hacked, just in time for the start of Pride Month. And though the culprit left an anti-Pride message, Nas seemed more tickled by the intrusion than upset.

“F*CK PRIDE MONTH,” wrote the hacker. “I faked being gay bitch. Ty for the $.” When a fan account screenshot the message and shared it on Twitter, Nas himself replied, writing, “i’m screaming because this is something i would actually say.”

He isn’t exaggerating at all. In 2020, shortly after coming out in the wake of his supernova rise to fame, Nas joked that he was never gay in the first place. “i said it to build up fuel for aprils fools day,” he winked. “ha got u guys.” Of course, the joke was short-lived; just thirteen minutes later, he tweeted, “ok i’m gay again.” Meanwhile, in 2021, he addressed the criticism he’s received from trolls saying he only came out for attention, tweeting, “y’all love saying i’m being gay for success but can’t name 5 successful gay male artists in the last 10 years to save your life.”

Nas isn’t letting the haters get him down, but maybe his collaborator Jack Harlow had a point. By now, it’s a bit much, and if Nas’ orientation bothers folks so much, maybe they could just, like… stop paying so much attention to him and find something else to do.

Lil Nas X Calls Out The BET Awards For Giving Him ‘An Outstanding Zero Nominations’ For Its 2022 Show

The BET Award nominations for 2022 were revealed today and fans had plenty of thoughts about who was selected for the upcoming show. Noticeably missing from the nominees was Lil Nas X, who had two Billboard chart-topping hits last year with “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and “Industry Baby,” which featured Jack Harlow. He also had another top-10 hit with “That’s What I Want.”

Fans noticed that Harlow, who received his first No. 1 single with “Industry Baby,” received a nomination for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, and they immediately called out BET. “Jack Harlow got a BET award nom and Lil Nas X didn’t? During pride month? During Black Music History month? Is that what I’m seeing?,” said Twitter user @Tendurag.

Lil Nas X responded to the nominations in the most Lil Nas X way possible. “Thank you bet awards,” he said in a now-deleted tweet. “An outstanding zero nominations again. black excellence!”

He later clarified that it wasn’t the lack of nominations that peeved him, but rather the lack of representation of Black and queer artists.

“I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world,” he said in another deleted tweet, “and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible.”
