HER Reveals She Was Almost In A Band With Kehlani And Zendaya

Despite still working on her official debut album, HER is one of today’s most-awarded young acts. The Vallejo, California-born singer already has four Grammys to her name along with a Golden Globe which brings her halfway to the coveted EGOT title. This undeniable success is a result of years worth of hard work and perfecting her craft, which dates back to her early teenage days. In a recent interview on The Carlos Watson Show, HER spoke about a band she was almost a part of earlier in her career, one that included well-known names like Kehlani and Zendaya.

“Dylan Wiggins, who is D’wayne Wiggins’s son from Tony! Toni! Toné!, we used to be in a band together,” she said. “We used to perform together when we were really young.” She added, “Kehlani was actually in our band. We all used to sing together. Zendaya was going to be in it at one point. But yeah, they all grew up together. I came into the picture in Oakland and we used to perform together.”

Poplyfe, a teen pop group from Oakland, California that appeared on season six of America’s Got Talent, is the band HER is referring to. At the time of their involvement in the talent show competition, the band’s members ranged in age from 13 to 18. The group would make it far into the show as they finish in fourth place.

T-Pain Flips A Classic Track Of His With Kehlani For Their Lush Collaboration, ‘I Like Dat’

A couple of weeks ago, T-Pain made a shocking discovery on his Instagram account. It turns out that the “Bartender” singer had accidentally ignored direct messages on the app from some of music and entertainment’s biggest names. Rather than sit and sulk about the missed opportunities, T-Pain turned it into something to laugh and learn from while apologizing to those who he accidentally ignored over the years. Despite the long-overdue response, many of the artists that reached out to T-Pain were still open to collaborating with him and today we’ve received the first of what could be many collaborations.

T-Pain connected with Kehlani for their brand new single, “I Like Dat,” an effort that flips the former’s classic 2005 record, “Buy U A Drank.” The duo previewed the song during a town hall that T-Pain held to apologize to all the people he ignored via Instagram DMs. Kehlani herself was excited for the collaboration to finally come to fruition as she took to Twitter to share her thoughts. “woke up out my sleep to say i really have a song wit t pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” she wrote. “on the flipped beat of Buy You A Drank!!!!!!! this b*tch Buy You A Drank Part 2!!!! what is my life!!!!!!!!!!”

Kehlani Says She’s Getting Hate For Returning To Her Former Style Of Baggy Clothing

Kehlani has switched up her style several times since she began releasing music several years ago, but apparently some listeners aren’t okay with that fact. She began leaning more into form-fitting fashion after giving birth to her daughter in 2019, but Kehlani has since returned to wearing baggier clothes. The singer took to Twitter to call out the hate she’s gotten for her baggier looks, saying she feels as though her style versatility makes her all the more “powerful.”

In a pair of now-deleted tweets, Kehlani addressed the criticism she’s received since pivoting back to her previous style: “i feel like there’s a group of people who just started finding me attractive or paying me mind after i had a baby when my body changed and i was more ‘feminine’ and me putting back on the same baggy jeans i had all my life prior is….shocking y’all”

Following up on her previous tweet, Kehlani added that she received similar criticism after she started wearing more feminine clothing: “it’s ok tho cuz i distinctly remember this happening when i started getting long nails and lashes & wearing heels. people was like ‘this isn’t you’ ‘i miss the old you’ i’m starting to feel like this is perhaps POWERFUL”

Fans flooded to Kehlani’s support after seeing the hate she was getting online, pointing out how versatile the singer’s style has been over the years.

This isn’t the first time Kehlani addressed how her perception of her body has changed after giving birth. Earlier this year, the singer said she has since discovered that being a mom is the “sexiest thing ever” in an interview with Playboy. “I think something happened to me when I became a mom; I just became sexier,” she said. “I was this quirky little person before — not super in touch with myself, a super tomboy. Then I became a mom, and all of a sudden I got these mom hips. I got this mom sensuality and grown-woman attitude and in-touch-ness with my body that I never had before.”

What The Heck Are Lizzo, SZA, And Kehlani Up To Together?

It’s not everyday that three of the most popular women in the music industry are seen hanging out together, and when it does happen, it’s fair to speculate that they’re working on a project. That’s exactly what happened this week when Lizzo, SZA, and Kehlani were spotted together all over social media, and fans hope it means that a joint single is on its way.

The three musicians were seen out on the town by paparazzi Wednesday night. They were captured hand-in-hand in West Hollywood leaving a restaurant together. After the paparazzi photos circulated, Lizzo, SZA, and Kehlani got together to film a playful TikTok poking fun at men who try to take salacious selfies.

Shortly after the TikTok was posted to Lizzo’s account, Kehlani shared a selfie of the trio to her Instagram Stories.

Once fans caught wind that the three musicians were spending time together, many began to speculate that a joint project could very well be in the works.

While this may be the first time the three were captured hanging out together, SZA and Lizzo are already good friends. Earlier this week, Lizzo shared an unedited nude selfie to Instagram in order to change “the conversation about beauty standards.” SZA was quick to commend Lizzo for the photo in the comment section, writing: “It’s you having no blemishes at ALL lol .. sigh I jus admire u Fren.”

Pink Sweats And Kehlani Grow Their Love In The Tender ‘At My Worst’ Video

It’s been a little over a month since Pink Sweats released his euphoric album Pink Planet, which aptly arrived just in time for Valentine’s Day. Following it’s release, Pink Sweats tapped the venerable musician Kehlani to join him on a remix of the fan-favorite track “At My Worst.” Now, the two have teamed up to share a lighthearted video to their romantic track.

The colorful visual, directed by David Karp and Courtney Loo, shows Kehlani and Pink Sweats courting each other at a retro gas station. Using flowers as a symbol of their love, they turn a simple bouquet into a lush garden.

Speaking about his Pink Planet LP in an interview with Uproxx, Pink Sweats said it was a way of offering fans a unique glimpse into his world:

“It was letting people into my world, the creative space that I made for myself to escape, I want to share that with everybody else. It’s like being a kid, but we’re grown. It’s like where you’re a child, some people at least have grand imaginations, but nobody can come to that place in your head. For me, I get to live out my childhood through music where it’s like I’ve created this place in my head and now I’ve been able to share with the world. Like some Bridge To Terabithia type stuff. You’re just bringing your friends on the rise, everybody wants to listen and give me a shot. So it’s like come on, let me show you.”

Pink Sweats And Kehlani Give A Harmonious Performance Of ‘At My Worst’ On ‘The Tonight Show’

Pink Sweats and Kehlani’s performance on their Pink Planet duet “At My Worst” is already gently harmonious, but the duo kicked it up a notch on The Tonight Show with a gorgeous visual component that perfectly accented the duality of the soul-stirring ballad.

Performing in a room split down the middle, each artist’s side is the perfect complement to the other’s. On Pink Sweats’ side, he wears his customary color, which contrasts nicely with the canary yellow decor. He’s backed by a female guitarist, while on the other side, Kehlani wears a yellow dress in a pink room, backed by a male guitarist. The yin-and-yang effect mirrors the complementary quality of their voices as they sing both to each other and to their respective loves (Pink Sweats recently proposed to his longtime girlfriend JL Bunny, who is a performer in her own right).

Sweats is fresh off the release of his debut album Pink Planet, which dropped last month backed by the loving single “Heaven.” Meanwhile, Kehlani has been leading the R&B resurgence with a slew of features in 2020 supporting her musical peers and her last album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t.
