Another Of Michael Porter Jr’s Brothers Was Arrested On DWI Charges

One of the brothers of Denver Nuggets player Michael Porter Jr. was arrested in Missouri on suspicion of driving while intoxicated less than three weeks after the other brother received a six-year jail term related to a tragic incident in Denver. According to reports, Jevon Porter, 20, was taken into custody on April 27 at about 1:30 a.m. According to the record, he was detained for DWI, which includes drinking and driving. A summons resulted in his release. Jevon Porter previously played college basketball at Pepperdine University before transferring to Loyola Marymount.

This recent news comes on the heels of Michael Porter Jr.’s other brother, Coban Porter, who was sentenced to six years in prison after his deadly DUI. He was charged with DUI homicide after running a red light after a night of drinking and killing a young mother who was working. Coban Porter admitted to driving drunk in the early hours of the morning on January 22, when the incident took place. Jontay Porter, another of Michael’s brothers, was banned from the NBA for life after being found to have violated the league’s gambling policy. Jontay manipulated his stats and gave a group of better information regarding his status for games.

Michael Porter Jr.s brother Jevon Porter Arrested For DWI

The last few weeks have been a rollercoaster for Michael Porter Jr. and the Porter family. MPJ is currently preparing for his and the Denver Nuggets’ second-round matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Nuggets just finished off their hard-fought series with the Los Angeles Lakers this past weekend. MPJ has been dealing with playing against LeBron and Anthony Davis while dealing with his brother going to prison and his other brother getting banned from the NBA. Now, his younger brother is in serious trouble as well.

MPJ and the Nuggets face off against Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday. The series is going to be an entertaining and must-see matchup for hooops fans. There will be a lot of weighing on the mind of one of the defending champions’ best players. Despite the troubling news, Porter Jr. has performed extremely well in the playoffs so far. Michael Porter Jr.’s Brother Coban Porter Sentenced To Six Years In Prison For Fatal DUI

The Brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. is now sentenced to six years in prison for a fatal DUI. Overall, Coban Porter was found guilty of DUI vehicular homicide after pleading guilty to the charges. Porter entered a plea agreement earlier this year and admitted to the crime of crashing into and killing Kathy Rothman. Additionally, Porter admitted to driving drunk in the early hours of the morning on January 22nd. After running a red light, Porter crashed into the victim’s driver’s side.

As part of his plea deal, Coban Porter will serve six years in prison. He could have served up to eight years, but the judge sentenced him to two different charges that will run concurrently. Rothman was a mother and Uber Driver and was working the night she was killed by Porter. Connie Johnson, Rothman’s mother, said of the ruling, “This pain and trauma has become my worst reality.” She continued, “My life ended along with my sweet, innocent daughter.” The victim’s family has filed two other lawsuits. One lawsuit alleges the bar Coban Porter was at overserved him.

Michael Porter Jr.’s Brother Will Serve Six Years In Prison

“You have clearly been called upon, for lack of a better phrase, to make good on this tragedy,” said Denver District Court Judge Ericka Englert, speaking to Coban Porter. “Do what you can to use this opportunity to educate others” about the dangers of driving drunk.” Englert also added that the fact that Coban seems like a good person adds to the tragedy of the case. In their testimony, Coban Porter’s family and friends praised him as a good person and gifted basketball player. Additionally, they described him as a man of real regret, kindness, and compassion.

During his freshman year in 2021–2022, Coban Porter started eight games for the University of Denver basketball team. Coban admitted in his testimony that this wasn’t the first time he had driven drunk. Additionally, he said the crime was not an accident. “All I can really say is ‘I’m sorry,’” Porter said. “I hope that somehow, someway, I’ll be able to make a difference.” Additionally, Jontay Porter, brother of Michal and Coban, was recently banned from the NBA for life for violating the league’s betting policies.

The NBA just made an unprecedented disciplinary move. The league just banned Toronto Raptors guard Jontay Porter from the NBA for life.

Porter not only bet on his own team to take an L, but also did things to manipulate his play to alter the betting scales in his favor! Wild. 

League Commissioner Adam Silver announced the historic punishment Wednesday. He explained that league investigators uncovered Porter’s involvement in a gambling scheme that questioned the integrity of the NBA’s competition back in March. The story gets deeper. The NBA claims Porter gave up confidential information regarding his health to one known gambler. 

Get this: Another bettor associated with Porter made a $80K bet that Porter “would underperform” in the Raptors’ game on March 20 against the Sacramento Kings. It wasn’t just a bet to make $80K; the bettor stood to win $1.1 MILLION if the wager hit. That’s real money. 

The NBA says Porter pulled himself from the game early due to his claim of some kind of illness. Because of the “unusual betting activity,” the bet was not “paid out” and was “frozen.”

There was a pattern with Porter, too. Silver asserted that NBA investigators found that Porter made “at least 13 bets on NBA games” while playing for both the Raptors and their G-League affiliate team from January through March. Silver continued that Porter made his plays using an associate’s betting account online to place his bets and won over $20K in profits.

“None of the bets involved any game in which Porter played,” the league said. ”Three of the bets were multi-game parlay bets that included one Raptors game, in which Porter bet that the Raptors would lose. All three bets lost.” 

This gets more serious. Silver and the NBA are in contact with the feds. They promised to investigate Porter further. “There is nothing more important than protecting the integrity of NBA competition for our fans, our teams and everyone associated with our sport,” Silver said, “which is why Jontay Porter’s blatant violations of our gaming rules are being met with the most severe punishment.” Guess that’s a wrap for Porter’s career, and who knows, he might be facing criminal charges now that the Feds are involved.

Jontay Porter is officially banned from the NBA after the league handed down its ruling after accusations of gambling misconduct. Porter’s NBA career is over after the NBA found him guilty of manipulating his own prop bets. Suspicious activity on certain sports books sparked discussion a few weeks ago when it was found that a disproportionate amount of users were betting and winning on Porter prop bets. Additionally, Porter’s on-court behavior garnered suspicion. Porter would seemingly come down with injuries early into checking into games, which resulted in bets for a bad performance.

Porter was also found to have been betting on NBA games through a surrogate account belonging to someone he knows. The NBA released a statement detailing the decision and investigation that determined Porter’s guilt. The NBA is putting the hammer down. Furthermore, the league is setting the tone and is telling its players that gambling is grounds for a ban. NBA commissioner had recently alluded to a lifetime ban being completely on the table. The league followed through with that consequence.

The NBA Details Jontay Porter’s Lifetime Ban

The NBA found that Porter was guilty of providing sports bettors with his health status for games. This information would help them bet the under on Porter’s performance, winning guaranteed bets. Porter would check into a gameplay a few minutes and come out of the game with an eye injury, for example. The numbers that were being won due to Porter’s scheme are ridiculous. One bettor bet $80,000 on Porter and won over 1.1 Million dollars. The individual won the money in a game where Proter played but left the game almost immediately after telling his coaching staff he was sick.

Sports books started to take notice. So much money was being won on a role player on a team that isn’t very good. The alarm bells began to ring, and pretty soon, the NBA was investigating after the information started circulating on social media. The NBA also found Porter was betting on NBA games for what looks like pocket change when compared to an NBA paycheck. Jontay Porter, the brother of Denver Nuggets forward and NBA champion Michael Porter Jr will never play in the NBA again.
