Jean Dawson Gave 50 Cent’s ‘Window Shopper’ An Alt-Rock Spin In Honor Of Black Music Month

Rock innovator Jean Dawson has shared an electrifying cover of a 50 Cent classic. Today (June 14), as part of a special Spotify Singles series honoring Black Music Month, Dawson covered 50’s 2005 hit single, “Window Shopper.”

Dawson’s cover of “Window Shopper” pays homage to 50, while giving it a rock-influenced spin of his own, complete with clashing percussion and plucky guitars.

He explained that he chose to cover “Window Shopper,” as 50’s name has been ubiquitous in a variety of genres.

“People fail to realize that he [50 Cent] was an innovator in being hyper-melodic while doing a format of music that was known for being more rhythmic,” said Dawson in a statement. “I have always seen him as being very punk rock.”

50 may posit to say the same thing about his own music. In a recent interview with Vulture, 50 said that he believed that at his peak, his music was able to unite a diverse bunch of people.

“It’s very rare that you can get these people to agree on stuff,” he said. “And one thing within entertainment culture is when it works, it feels like magic because the music comes on and they can agree to have a good time.”

Jean Dawson Embraces The Triality Of Man In The Chaotic ‘Three Heads’ Video

One would be hard pressed to put a label on Jean Dawson, who experiments with all types of music and embraces the many iterations of himself within. Dawson’s new video for “Three Heads” shows the artist quite literally appearing in three different forms on the screen, riding around recklessly in a car, and behind beds of fire. Though it may be difficult to determine who he really is, the music makes the puzzle solving worthwhile.

“Three Heads” arrives alongside Jean Dawson announcing his forthcoming album Chaos Now for October 7. Chaos Now will be the 26-year-old’s first offering since 2020’s Pixel Bath and will be an especially momentous occasion as he kicks off his debut headlining US tour in support of the album. The Los Angeles duo will be joining Dawson in his near month-long tour finishing up in LA on November 17.

Jean Dawson Sports A Full Face Cast In His Fully-Clothed ‘Porn Acting’ Video

From his “Turbo Radio” merch collection, to touring with hip-hop collective Brockhampton, and even collaborating with indie slacker rock legend Mac DeMarco, rising hip-hop star Jean Dawson is doing it all. His first release, Pixel Bath, let fans into Dawson’s world, and a subsequent documentary called Burnout was a peek into his creative process. Industry veterans like Travis Barker have already picked up on Dawson’s potential, and he shows no signs of slowing down in the near future.

The 26-year-old is half Mexican and half Black, and grew up in Tijuana, Mexico, giving him a particularly unique view on the world. Today, he’s dropping a new video for the song “Porn Acting,” a visual and song he explains in the following way: “We are all the same, we are all bags of flesh, tryna prove that we’re not as bad as we know we are.” The track starts off a little sing-songy, and quickly devolves into a more chaotic, heavier melody, as Dawson stars in the clip, moving from audience to stage in an abandoned movie theater, and sporting a full face cast throughout the clip. Brockhampton Announces A Bunch Of 2022 Tour Dates With Support From Jean Dawson

It would seem the end of Brockhampton is nigh, as the group plans on releasing their final album this year. So, the slew of 2022 tour dates the band announced today could end up being the final chance to see them live.

The trek kicks off in January in Norway and is followed by other European dates through to mid-February. Later that month, Brockhampton returns to North America for shows in February, March, and April. All dates will feature support from Jean Dawson, Paris Texas, and HVN.
