Jack White Got Engaged And Married During The First Night Of His New Tour

Jack White is having himself quite the weekend so far. He released his fourth album Fear Of The Dawn on Friday, and it makes for his first full-length solo effort since 2018’s Boarding House Reach. Despite the wait, Fear Of The Dawn is the first of two albums that White will release in 2022 as Entering Heaven Alive will arrive at some point later this year. In addition to releasing Fear Of The Dawn, White also performed the national anthem on Opening Night for the Detroit Tigers on Friday. As if that wasn’t enough, White would go on to get engaged and married later that day.

The opening night of White’s The Supply Chain Issues Tour took place at Detroit’s Masonic Temple Theatre. According to Detroit Free Press, nearly an hour and a half into the night, White invited his girlfriend and Black Belles singer Olivia Jean on stage where they performed the White Stripes’ “Hotel Yorba.” At the song’s “let’s get married” lyric, White paused and looked at Jean, pulled out a ring, and said, “I’ve got a question for you. Will you marry me?” Jean answered with a resounding “yes!” and the two got married during the show’s encore.

Detroit Free Press says White and Jean’s respective bass players were best man and maid of honor. White’s longtime friend Ben Swank officiated the wedding and White’s mother and Jean’s father were also in attendance. White’s marriage to Jean is his third one after he previously tied the knot with Meg White in 1996 and Karen Elson in 2005.

Jay-Z And Jack White’s Unreleased Collaborations Might Actually Be Shared Someday

A few years ago, Jay-Z and Jack White got together to collaborate on some music, which was ultimately not released (at least not by Jay-Z, as White re-worked at least one of the songs as a solo cut). Now, though, White says that music could actually come out at some point.

Speaking with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe recently, when asked about the Jay-Z collaboration, White responded (as NME notes):

“Yeah. That’s true, but it’s not me who doesn’t finish stuff. So it’s, uh… I’m not that guy. No, I’m just teasing. But I’m more the personality, like, I’ll be there tomorrow, you know. So it’s different working styles. So some of that stuff I think will see the light of day when those guys aren’t busy with other projects and stuff.”

He also noted it was fun working with Jay-Z, saying, “Yeah, it was. It’s so different, you know, because when I went into the studio with him, there was just one microphone which is, I kind of was [like] ‘Whoa, what? Where are the other microphones?’ But I was like, ‘Oh, wow, OK. Yeah, I guess why would you need another microphone?’ So yeah, it’s different worlds. And so Jay was learning about the way I did it and I was learning about the way he did it. That’s like seeing anybody use a method. And if you see anyone using any method, it’s really, really interesting.”

White and Jay-Z both have experience crossing over into each other’s music worlds: White collaborated with Beyoncé on the Lemonade cut “Don’t Hurt Yourself” while Jay-Z’s most notable foray into rock is 2004’s Collision Course, his collaborative EP with Linkin Park.

Jack White And Q-Tip Collaborate On A Haunting New Track, ‘Hi-De-Ho’

Ahead of his upcoming double album release, Jack White has released a new collaboration with A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip. On “Hi-De-Ho,” White channels Cab Calloway by way of a sample of his song “Hi-De-Ho Man.” White and Q-Tip both scat over a haunting drum beat with samples of saxophones throughout.

White heard Calloway’s original version on the radio and decided to sample it and compose a bass line for his version. White then sent his track to Q-Tip, who, within minutes, sent back a version with his vocals.

“I love synthesizing different moments, different areas of music, different time periods,” White said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “The best part about it all is everybody I played to kept thinking that Cab Calloway was me. And I thought, ‘No, it’s obviously not me. Do I actually sound like that?’ So that was bizarre. ”

“Hi-De-Ho” marks the second collaboration between Jack White and Q-Tip, the first being “Solid Wall Of Sound” from A Tribe Called Quest’s We Got It From Here…Thank You For Your Service.

White will release Fear Of The Dawn, the first of two albums he has planned for this year, in April. The second album, Entering Heaven Alive, is set for release in June. “Hi-De-Do” will be on Fear Of The Dawn‘s tracklist and another new single, “Queen Of The Bees,” will be featured on Entering Heaven Alive.

Mad Cool Adds Jack White, London Grammar, Stormzy, And More To Complete An Insane Lineup

Coming into its fifth anniversary, Madrid’s Mad Cool Festival is already one of the biggest music festivals in Europe, bringing nearly 200,000 revelers to the sprawling Valdebebas urban open space venue. The initial 2022 lineup was announced in June and was heavy on the rock and roll acts with Metallica, Muse, The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Pixies, Faith No More, Twenty One Pilots, and Placebo leading the way.

They took it a step further in October adding a fifth day to the summer fest and artists like Haim, Florence + The Machine, and Nathy Peluso. Now they’ve beefed the lineup up one final time adding Jack White as the fifth day headliner and infusing the lineup with more big name acts like Stormzy, London Grammar, Modest Mouse, Two Door Cinema Club, Local Natives, and Mura Masa.

It brings the grand total to 144 artists playing across the festival’s five nights. Other artists playing on this comprehensive bill include St. Vincent, The War On Drugs, Beabadoobee, Arlo Parks, Phoebe Bridgers, Leon Bridges, Animal Collective, Tinashe, Glass Animals, Carly Rae Jepsen, Chvrches, Wolf Alice, and loads more.
