Ja Morant is one of the best players in the entire NBA. However, he has gotten into some trouble as of late, and it has kept him off of the court. The instance that truly hurt him though was when he flashed a gun on Instagram Live. This subsequently led to an eight-game suspension from the league. On Wednesday night, Morant was allowed to come back. His team was playing at home against the Houston Rockets, which means there was a solid chance he would secure a victory in his return. In the end, that is exactly what he and the Grizzlies did.

Although, it should be noted that Morant was coming off of the bench last night. This is due to the fact that he had been away from the team for some time. Either way, Morant found a way to make an impact immediately. He scored a total of 17 points in 24 minutes of action. This included a beautiful poster dunk that had the whole crowd on its feet. Overall, it was a great way for Morant to come back, and the fans appreciated his efforts.

After the game, Morant was interviewed on the court while he held his infant daughter. Ja Morant Speaks at Practice: 'I Never Had an Alcohol Problem'

Ja Morant rejoined the Memphis Grizzlies at practice on Tuesday after his suspension, and he admitted he was a bit uncomfortable. After the practice, Morant had his first media availability with the wide press, and he ensured everyone knew that he did not have a drinking problem.

“I don’t got an alcohol problem, never had an alcohol problem,” Morant opened. “I didn’t go there for alcohol, I went there for counseling.”

Morant combatted the fact that he was said to be under the influence of alcohol by responding: “I went there to learn how to manage stress, cope with stress in a positive way instead of ways that I dealt with it before that caused mistakes.”

Shortly after announcing his suspension, Morant sat down with ESPN and Jalen Rose for a candid interview.

When asked about the gun incident in the strip club, Morant said that the gun was not his and he doesn’t condone any violence. “The gun wasn’t mine. It’s not who I am. I don’t condone any type of violence, but I’ve taken responsibility for my actions. But in the future, I’m going to show everybody who Ja really is, what I’m about, and change this narrative that everybody got.”

Ja added: “Obviously, he said things I need to be better at, but more of just showing his support towards me. I accepted that, and I also sent my apologies to everybody—to the league, myself, my teammates, my family for putting that negativity towards all of us with a bad decision.”

Morant went on to continue to apologize for his recent actions. “I used that as an escape, which I shouldn’t have. I feel like that’s the reason I made many bad decisions in my past, which doesn’t pretty much describe me, doesn’t describe Ja as a person. I’m a totally different person than what’s been shown in the media. That’s my job now. That’s why I took that time away, to become a better Ja, so everybody really can see who Ja really is and you know what he’s about.”

Over the past few weeks, Ja Morant has been a key figure throughout the NBA. Overall, the narrative surrounding Morant hasn’t exactly been all that complimentary. Ja Morant’s Return Timeline Gets Massive Update, Fans React

Ja Morant has been the biggest story in the entire NBA over the past few weeks. Overall, this is due to the fact that he flashed a gun on Instagram Live. He was subsequently suspended by the NBA for a total of eight games. Moreover, during the midst of this controversy, he was accused of threatening a teenager and a mall cop. These alleged instances had happened in the past, although they were definitely publicized quite a bit throughout this controversy.

Now, however, Morant is allowed back with the Memphis Grizzlies. Morant was reinstated by the league on Monday. That night, his team had a game against the Dallas Mavericks, although he did not play. Instead, the team wanted him to gradually get back into the swing of things, instead of just going full force back into the game. It was a solid decision that ultimately allowed Morant to have fun with his teammates yesterday. As Jenkins explained, Morant got to address the team on Monday, where he outlined his changed behaviors. Additionally, Jenkins suggested that Morant will likely return to the court on Wednesday, which is tomorrow. The Grizzlies are set to play the Houston Rockets in Memphis, so it’s the perfect time for Morant to return. He won’t be dealing with any of the vices from the road, and he will be playing a very easy opponent. No matter what, the Grizzlies fanbase will be happy to have him back.

Whether those infractions occur on the court, on reality television, or surface online, it’s difficult for sports players to recover from the backlash. The beginning of 2023 shaped up to be a rough season for Ja Morant, but the young baller is determined to turn things around. Several basketball veterans have stepped forward with advice, and Barnes adds his name to the list of those with words of wisdom.

TMZ ran into the former Los Angeles Lakers star while he was out and about and asked him if he believed Morant could bounce back. “I hope so,” he said. “One of my favorite players in the league. I love Ja and what he brings to the table. You know, got a little ahead of himself with some stuff, and that happens when you’re young with the world in the palm of your hand. I just want to send him love, let him know we love him. We miss him. Recently, Chicago Bulls guard Patrick Beverley said that rap music may have had something to do with a video that surfaced earlier this month and showed Memphis Grizzlies all-star Ja Morant flashing a gun. Beverley said, “I think it’s the music, man. I ain’t bashing the music ’cause I’m listening to that sh*t, too. […] It’s not part of my life. It’s a part of a lot of people I know, though, so I can relate. ‘My homie used to do that, my homie got locked up for doing that, or my homie in jail for doing that or my homie died from doing that.’”

Then, when speaking with Ja Rule, a TMZ interviewer mentioned what Beverley said and asked if there was any validity to it. Rule responded, “I’m sure there is.”

He continued, “Hip-hop is very influential. I’ve done things in my youth because of hip-hop, you know? Redman made “How To Roll A Blunt,” we started smoking blunts! Snoop made “Gin & Juice,” we started drinking gin and juice! So hip-hop is very influential, I’m not going to say it’s not. How far people take it is what it is, but the thing with Ja… I just hope he has better people around him to just let him know that ain’t the way. ‘Go play ball, man. Do you, man. Ja’s looking out for Ja this week, even though he did so by piggybacking off of a controversial take concerning the basketball player. Moreover, Ja Rule recently agreed with Patrick Beverly that hip-hop and rap culture negatively influenced Ja Morant’s actions. For those not yet caught up, the Grizzlies star faced police investigation and an NBA suspension after a video surfaced of him flashing a gun while going out. After Beverly said that music was partly to blame, many pushed back against conflating art for a co-sign of wrongful behavior. Regardless, Rule is a rapper himself, and a big one at that, so his take was interesting.

When asked by TMZ about the situation, the Queens rapper said that rap music influenced him to go down incorrect paths. For example, he said he started smoking weed because of Redman’s “How To Roll A Blunt.” Also, he pointed to Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice” as the song that drove him to drink alcohol. As such, he believed Morant took note in similar ways, and the 47-year-old said “that ain’t the way.”
