Young Nudy: The Importance Of Being EV4L

Young Nudy’s Dr. EV4L has arrived in full malevolent glory. Though certainly darker on the thematic scale, with Nudy often preferring to gleefully revel in violence and brutality, his sheer joy in doing so gives the project a strangely uplifting vibe. It’s not entirely surprising given Nudy’s real-life disposition, prone to laughter and enjoying his wild ride through the rap game.

We recently had the chance to catch up with Young Nudy — who previously held it down for one of our most entertaining episodes of How To Roll — when he first dropped off Dr. EV4L. Sitting in the passenger’s seat while on the move, clearly reeling from the early success of his acclaimed project (which blasted intermittently in the background during moments of peak excitement), the rapper offered some insight into how things came together, breaking down some of his own evil inspirations, and revealing his pick for the most dangerous horror movie icon — and no, it’s not the villain who shares the album’s title.

Check out our conversation with Young Nudy below, and be sure to go stream Dr. EV4L when you’re done.

HNHH:Congrats on the new album, I’ve been keeping it on rotation!

Young Nudy: Yeah for sure, we locked in. As long as you keepin that shit spinnin!

How does it feel to have another one out?

[Laughs] Shit it feels good, you know what I mean? I’m just trying to keep it going, man. I’m trying to make sure everything better than the last, you feel what I’m sayin’? How do you feel about it?

I think it might be one of your best so far. It’s pretty hard to tell based on how early it is, but personally, I like the darker sound. You tapped into something cool, even with the cover and the imagery. I really like that.

I appreciate it, I appreciate it, man. I tried to come a little different, tried to come like when I first started coming in type shit.

Is there something about those darker and spookier beats that encourages something creative in you?

Ah shit, I don’t goddamn know, I just felt like, you know, on my last couple little mixtapes and album, from Nudyland to Anyways, a lot of shit was like– I mean I would talk about doing a little shit but the beats weren’t evil like that. I wasn’t being that rough with the situation. I wasn’t being harsh with it like that. So then when I came like that on this motherfucker, like I ain’t give a fuck barely about too much of what I said or about whoever fuck wants to be mad or whatever. [Laughs] But yeah, that’s how we coming!

I noticed a lot of horror references on this one. Obviously, you’ve been referencing Chucky for a while now, but you name-dropped a lot of horror movies, villains, and icons. So I’m curious, are you a fan of horror movies?

I’ve always been a fan of Chuckie, you know that’s my boy. I was like an animated type, I liked the animated shit. But I really started fucking with the horror shit like a year ago. I just started getting into it when I felt like I wanted to come with a different type of music. I wanted to use that shit to my advantage.

Definitely. I heard you referencing Michael Myers, Jason Vorhees, and even Jeepers Creepers in there, which was cool.

Yeah man! [Laughs]

I was wondering, out of all those horror killers, who do you think is the most dangerous? You got Chucky, Mike Myers, Jason, Freddie Krueger?

Most dangerous? I can’t switch on the home team. I would say Chucky on gang.

He’s got the size disadvantage, but he’s kinda sneaky.

Chuck is more my type. He doesn’t too much show emotion about that shit. Lemme tell you who’s solid dangerous — you know he evil, man. Michael Myers. Nothin to play with.

For sure. There’s actually a Halloween movie where Michael Myers actually fights Busta Rhymes, and Busta Rhymes whoops his ass.

I’ve seen that, I’ve seen that. That shit was kinda cool. They need to make Michael Myers vs. Jason. That would be fire.

That would be cool.

You ever seen Freddy Vs. Jason?

Yeah! Freddy vs. Jason, I remember that one.

That shit wasn’t even that scary, it was more funny!

Seriously. I don’t know, I think they did it on purpose — I think it was supposed to be kinda funny, but I don’t really know. On another note —  about the album cover, did you have any say in how that came together?

My team had sent me some covers because I knew I wanted some evil-looking ass shit! I ain’t want no animated or no bright light type shit. And when they sent me that, I just fell in love with that shit. Then I posted it to see if my fans liked that shit, you feel me? And they loved that shit! Shoutout to the person that made that motherfucker. Did a wonderful job. I love it.

About the title: why Dr. Evil? What was it about Dr. Evil that spoke to you for this album?

I’m evil! That’s what it is, cause I’m evil! [Maniacal laughter]

Are you an Austin Powers fan?

I fuck with Austin Powers, but my Dr. Evil is more like that Dr. Evil mixed with The Joker slash mafia type. So like, all that shit crushed in one and you make the Nudy Dr. Evil.

Before I let you go, I know you’re a big Grand Theft Auto player — do you think it’s time for a GTA city that’s based off Atlanta at this point?

Yeah! They should do Atlanta and Chicago together. That would be hard.

Agreed. Thanks for taking the time, and enjoy the rest of your day.

Thanks, man. You enjoy your day man, great interview man, salute!

Charles Barkley Has A New Nickname For Anthony Davis

The Los Angeles Lakers are on the brink of elimination, losing last night’s Round 1 matchup against the Phoenix Suns by a large margin. Dropping the game by a total of thirty points, many have started counting out the LeBron James-led squad, citing injuries as their downfall for this season.

The team will need to wake up and make some serious adjustments before Thursday if they want a chance at winning another championship. One of the biggest questions surrounding Game 6 has to do with Anthony Davis’ status. Will the superstar be available to play? Or will he spend another game on the sidelines with a groin injury? With the number of injuries AD sustained this year, Charles Barkley has come up with a pretty disrespectful nickname for the big man, debuting it during his TNT broadcast last night.

Predicting that the Suns will win this series, Chuck said, “Forget about the championship. [The Lakers] can’t win this series without Street Clothes,” when Ernie Johnson pressed him to elaborate, he said, “I call him Anthony ‘Street Clothes’ Davis ’cause he’s always in street clothes.”

The panelists found the joke pretty funny, chuckling at the new nickname. We’ve heard The Brow and simply AD, but Street Clothes is a new one.

Hopefully, Davis is healthy enough to suit up on Thursday. The Lakers desperately need him back.

Tristan Thompson’s Alleged BM Claims She Was Hacked & Didn’t Admit To Lying

Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson have had more than their fair share of cheating scandals. Most recently, a woman known on Instagram as Kim Cakery came forward with allegations that Thompson was the father of her child. While he has vehemently denied the rumors and even submitted to a paternity test that proved the child was not his, Cakery, née Kimbery Alexander is not backing down.

Kardashian, through her lawyer, even fired off a cease-and-desist letter to Alexander on Tuesday (June 1) after she allegedly admitted to faking a direct message from Khloe Kardashian earlier in the week. The letter read obtained by TMZ, “You put words in her mouth that she never said and that she wouldn’t say. You faked the whole thing. And you have now publicly admitted it.” Alexander is now claiming that she was hacked and didn’t admit to anything.

“Sorry guys I’m just getting my account back I was hacked and here’s proof!!,” she wrote in the caption of a screenshot of text messages suggesting she had lost access to her account. She continued, “I didn’t admit nothing!! I didn’t write anything on my page in the last week!! I was locked out!!! So there u go.”

While no one knows for sure whether or not Cakery is telling the truth, many saw her most recent claims as merely trying to save face following Khloe firing off a cease-and-desist to her

Yesterday, a post shared to Cakery’s story suggested that she had lied about the entire ordeal. “The post that I made yesterday was fake and I apologize for going about it the way I did,” she penned.

“But I am genuinely fed up with the bogus energy and her acting like she never sees me asking for a second test. The first test was done at a Kardashian affiliated facility and you expect me to believe that the inhome test he took was accurate??” she added.

Summer Walker Airs Out London On Da Track: “Run From This Type Of Man”

It looks like Summer Walker and London on da Track are officially off-again after the renowned R&B singer aired out the father of her child on Instagram Stories. Throughout the last year, Summer and London have broken up more times than we can count, and each time, they’ve managed to put aside their toxic differences to get back together. Have they finally encountered the final straw?

On Wednesday morning, Summer Walker took to her alternate Instagram page to put her baby daddy on blast, telling all women to avoid men like the famed producer. Sharing one of his recent tweets about someone “casually forgetting” his help now that they’re in a better position, Summer commented and threw shots.

“Ladies run from this type of man,” she said about her ex-boyfriend. “A man that believes you are NOTHING without them from the start till the end will never want you to be anything without them. They will sabotage anything you do solo and envy you once you begin to stand on your own 2 feet. That’s not real love, that’s control. Big narcissist vibes.”

She wasn’t done there though, sharing some more words for London on da Track.

& why would you want the mother of your child to soon ‘dry out’ so that I can’t provide for her,” she asked. “[laughing face emoji] lmaooo n***as is weird. If you ain’t the captain of the ship it’s just sink the whole ship lmao. Okay I’m done.”

Boston Celtics Undergoing Plethora Of Changes Following First-Round Playoff Exit

On Tuesday night, the Boston Celtics swallowed the pill of defeat as the Brooklyn Nets officially sent them home after a hard-played 4-1 playoff series. Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 32 points, 5 assists, and 9 rebounds, but his heroics was ultimately not enough to combat the ferocity of the Nets’ big three — James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant.

Following the Celtics’ first-round exit, major changes have already started taking place in the organization. First and foremost, Danny Ainge, the Celtics’ longtime president of basketball operations, has announced his retirement on Wednesday. Having spent 18 years with the Celtics, 62-year-old Ainge is the third-longest-tenured active lead executive of any NBA franchise, following only the Miami Heat’s Pat Riley and the San Antonio Spurs’ Gregg Popovich.

According to ESPN, the beloved architect who built Boston’s last title team — the 2008 powerhouse that featured Rajon Rondo and Hall of Famers Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce — will be succeeded by the Celtics’ current head coach Brad Stevens, ultimately leaving a massive opening in the head coaching position.

In a statement from the Celtics, Ainge says, “Helping guide this organization has been the thrill of a lifetime, and having worked side-by-side with him since he’s been here, I know we couldn’t be in better hands than with Brad guiding the team going forward. I’m grateful to ownership, all of my Celtics colleagues, and the best fans in basketball for being part of the journey.”

While Stevens has officially been given the presidential reigns, Ainge will reportedly stick around through the offseason to see the organization through the transition process and also help Stevens find a new head coach. According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Celtics are reportedly eyeing both the Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd and the former Atlanta Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce as candidates for the position.

With the team not even 24 hours removed from being knocked out of the playoffs, expect more information to come in the coming weeks and months, so stay tuned to see what other big moves the Boston Celtics make during this crucial offseason.

Mo’nique Stirs Up Debate About Black Women Wearing Bonnets & Pajamas In Public

On Friday, Mo’Nique unknowingly started a contentious internet debate that would rage on for several days when she uploaded a video that encouraged young Black women to refrain from wearing bonnets, head wraps, slippers, and pajamas in public. At the start of the video, she touched on her “auntie” status in the Black community and let her followers know that she had felt obligated “to talk to her babies and say some real sh*t.”

Throughout the video, Mo’Nique criticized Black women who she has seen in airports, grocery stores, and gas stations wearing things like bonnets and basically not looking “presentable.” “I’ve been seeing it not just at the airport. I’ve been seeing it at the store, at the mall,” the comedian says. “When did we lose our pride in representing ourselves? When did we slip away of let me make sure I’m presentable when I leave my home?”

Elsewhere in the video, Mo’Nique says, “I’m not saying you don’t have pride but the representation that you’re showing someone will have to ask you to know if you have it. It’s not to get a man … it is just your representation of you, my sweet babies.”

Of course, she was met with backlash following her attempt to enforce respectability politics, but several fans also have agreed with her statement and come to her defense. Now, days later, Mo’Nique has returned to Instagram to defend her original video as well.

On Wednesday, Mo’Nique responded to the backlash with another video on the topic, and she started her caption with an all-caps, “UNAPOLOGETIC.” She continued her caption by writing, “Hey my beautiful babies. I’m okay with some of you being in your feelings. I LOVE YALL & SOMETIMES THAT LOVE AINT EASY. I am here for the CHALLENGE. And ain’t NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP ME FROM LOVING YOU.”

In the video, Mo’Nique begins her response by saying, “The post that I did Friday in reference to us being the best us that we can be, it rubbed some people wrong, but I want to share this with yall. There were two people in my life that had I taken a different attitude, I could have felt they was rubbing me wrong. But I’m glad I took the attitude of appreciation and gratitude because they tapped me. And that was Patti LaBelle and Margaret Avery.

“I’m glad those two women love me enough that they would go out of their way to talk to me in a way that aunties, mommas, big sisters talk to their little sisters, nieces, grandbabies, [and] daughters,” the comedian and actress continues. “I was grateful for that because it allowed me to [feel] about things differently. Never once did I think those women were trying to be offensive, nasty, or mean. I thought it was nothing but love.”

Hammering home the fact that her original Bonnett video was rooted in love, she says, “So for you babies that have taken offense to what I said, I’m okay with that… And when yall say, ‘We will cancel yo a**.’ Well, they’ve tried that, and I’m still here to let yall know I love you and ain’t nothing you can do about that.”

What do you think — is Mo’Nique right or wrong about this entire bonnet fiasco?

After DaBaby was reportedly detained and questioned by Miami police after a shooting Monday night, one of his Billion Dollar Baby artists, Wisdom, has been arrested for attempted murder, according to XXL. Police reports obtained by XXL describe a shooting near Prime 112 restaurant on Ocean Drive in which two people sustained injuries; one person was shot in the leg, treated, and released, while the other was hit in the back and is reportedly still hospitalized and possibly paralyzed.

21-year-old Wisdom Awute and 29-year-old Christopher Urena were arrested, with Miami Police Department representatives telling XXL, “In less than 24 hours, Miami Beach detectives were able to ensure those responsible for the shooting were arrested and charged.
