DisguisedToast Says He’s “Open” To Joining The LCS

If reports are correct, there will be two vacant slots in the LCS ahead of the 2024 season. The first will be that of TSM, who said earlier this year that they would be leaving the North American league to join another tier-one region. Then came the news, courtesy of content creator Daniel Gonzales, that a team not named TSM had already sold their franchise slot.

That left many people wondering just who would be filling the multiple spots in the league. MrBeast has previously expressed interest in joining the league. However, there has been little talk on that front since Worlds 2022. But for many, the ideal candidate was Jeremy “DisguisedToast” Wang. The League superfan and highly successful streamer recently entered the esports scene with his second-tier League team, Disguised. The team excelled in their first split in the NACL, winning the tournament outright. Now, Wang has said he’s not opposed to taking the team up a step.

Disguised Open To But Wary Of LCS Jump

Speaking with Travis Gafford, Wang admitted that he was “open to join the LCS.” However, he admitted he was worried about the financial impact. He said that he wanted to “break even” in the next two years. Furthermore, he hadn’t heard positive things about LCS financials. “I heard joining the LCS actually loses you more money, which is kinda crazy,” he said. “The more you win and the more successful you are, you actually lose more money in esports. It’s better to just lose.”

Furthermore, Wang reiterated that he didn’t want to box himself into purely running League operations. Wang has already announced that he will be forming a VALORANT team. Additionally, he also expressed interest in other Riot products like Teamfight Tactics and the upcoming Project L. Outside of Riot Games, Wang also floated scenes like Counter-Strike 2, Apex Legends, and Rainbow Six: Siege also potential future ventures. It’s clear that Wang has big goals for his newly formed org. However, to the disappointment of many fans, it appears that the golden opportunity to join the LCS might have come just a little too early.

Activision are continuing their trend of revitalizing their storied Call of Duty franchise with another remake. The remake of Modern Warfare III, originally released in 2011, will drop in November. The move to modernize some of the best-regarded titles in the long-running franchise has been well-received by many fans. Former Call of Duty pro, and founder of esports org 100 Thieves, Christopher “Nadeshot” Haag said that news of the game so far appears to indicate that Sledgehammer, the studio behind MW3 is “giving us everything we’ve been asking for.”

Modern Warfare III picks up immediately after Modern Warfare II. Soap, Price, and Nikolai are on the run after the murder of Lieutenant General Shepard. Of course, it doesn’t appear to matter that Shepard had just detonated a nuke, that’s just geopolitics for you. Most of the game is spent playing Yuri, a former Spetznaz operator who joins Price in his hunt for Russian ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov. Activision has since dropped a teaser for the game, including some absolute choice music.

The teaser follows big bad Makarov being escorted through prison to receive a new tattoo. Meanwhile, Soap gives one of his usual sonorous monologues about stopping evil. This is overlaid with footage of some of the game’s more iconic moments – a terror attack in London, Makarov bringing down a plane carrying the President of Russia. All in all, it’s an incredibly hype trailer ahead of the “worldwide reveal” on August 17.

A majority of the trailer is scored to Colonel Bagshot’s 1971 single “Six Day War”. However, right at the end, as Makarov looks to the camera, there is an amazing Pusha T needle drop. Pusha sampled “Six Day War” on “Just So You Remember” last year and it’s that intense line (My Joker smile, you know who the villain is/Just so you remember who you dealin’ with…) that hear right at the end of the video. Speaking on the Facecheck podcast, Gonzales claimed that a unnamed LCS team had already sold their franchise slot in the league and would be leaving before the start of the next split. Furthermore, Gonzales clarified that the team in question was not TSM, who had previously announced that they would seeking an exit from the league.

When asked if he was happy about the team that would be entering the league, Gonzales instead said that he was happy about who was leaving. Aside from the departing TSM, there are nine other teams in the LCS. Immortals have already been linked with a move away from the league. It was reported last month that Immortals had triggered a performance provision that could force them out of the league. Immortals have finished bottom two in five splits amid an eight split (4 years) period. That triggers a Riot Games safeguard that could potentially see Immortals leave the league.

T1 Secure Top 4 Finish In LCK Behind Faker’s Return

For a moment, it looked like T1 were going to crash out of the LCK Summer split early. With Faker sidelined with an arm injury, the perennial LCK contenders went 3-7 across the final 10 games of the regular season. That saw them finish fifth with a 9-9 record. While Faker was able to return for the regular season finale on August 4, it was a scary time for the team. However, despite qualifying for the playoffs, Faker’s absence had put them in a bad position. They would now need to survive a do-or-die best-of-five against an equally underperforming Dplus. The loser would be sent straight to the Regional Finals.

In the end, it appeared that they had little to worry about. T1 dispatched Dplus 3-1 to secure a minimum of fourth place in the league. The result allowed T1 to maintain their slim lead in the championship points standings. This will be crucial in determining seeding for the Regional Finals, as well as automatic qualification for Worlds. The two automatic qualifications spots from the LCK go to the Summer champion and the season’s championship points leader. T1 currently has 120 points, 20 points ahead of third-place KT Rolster.
