Andre 3000 Says Ludacris Took “Fast & Furious” Role He Auditioned For

Turns out that one of the most profitable movie franchises of all time could’ve featured another Southern hip-hop legend instead. Moreover, when asked about why he hadn’t shown up in the Fast & Furious films, André 3000 recently revealed during his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that he auditioned for franchise, specifically the original’s sequel 2 Fast 2 Furious. While he appeared on the show last month, the clip started to make social media rounds this week, and many people expressed curious surprise and some shock. “I think Ludacris took the role,” 3 Stacks remarked. I actually tried out, I tried out for Fast & Furious, and Ludacris actually took the role.”

Furthermore, when asked by Colbert if this upset him, Andre 3000 was quite honest in his response. “No, not at all, ’cause I wasn’t ready,” he shared. “No, I mean, I remember that audition, man. I was so nervous, man. Like, I wouldn’t hire me. Yeah, possibly [the door’s open]. If they watching, yeah, put me in Fast 30.” “2 Fast 2 Flute,” Stephen suggested in the clip below, which got an “Ooh” from the Atlanta multi-hyphenate and another potential title: “Flute & Furious.”

André 3000 was on The Late Show in January. While there, he and Stephen Colbert taped a “Colbert Questionert” segment, in which Colbert asks his guests a series of general questions in an attempt to get to know them better. These segments usually air a couple weeks after the guest’s initial Late Show appearance, and André’s segment finally played last night, February 8. Colbert’s questioning actually unearthed an interesting piece of trivia: André once auditioned for a Fast & Furious movie.

One of the standard Questionert questions is, “Do you have a favorite action movie?” Nothing came to mind for André, so Colbert playfully followed up, “Why haven’t you been in one of the Fast & Furious movies? I could see you driving a fast car, off a cliff or something into a boat.” André responded with a bit of a laugh, “I would have but I think Ludacris took the role.” He added, “No, I actually tried out. I tried out for Fast & Furious and Ludacris actually took the role,” which took Colbert by surprise.

Ludacris’ first time portraying Tej Parker in the Fast & Furious franchise was in the second film, 2003’s 2 Fast 2 Furious, so it would seem that’s the movie André auditioned for.

Colbert asked André if he was angry about not landing the part and he responded, “No, not at all. I mean… ’cause I wasn’t ready. […] I remember that audition. I was so nervous, man, like I wouldn’t have hired me.”

André went on to have a fine acting career, though, with roles in movies like Four Brothers, Semi Pro, and Jimi: All Is By My Side.

Speaking on All The Smoke, Ludacris revealed why the question of “why another Fast movie” is “the dumbest fucking question in the world.

“No matter what industry we in, podcasts, music, movies, it’s all about a bottom line,” Luda said. “It’s about how much you spend compared to how much you make. We’re making billions of fucking dollars, and I’m just giving you my heart I’m not trying to brag or nothing.”

He added, “if you spend 200 million and you make a billion, who the fuck is you gonna tell to stop shooting movies when you’re making 800 million dollars?

Fast & Furious will never die. With one of the final (?) chapters of the Fast Franchise in theaters, Vin Diesel has revealed a spin-off series is in development. Speaking with Variety, Vin Diesel said he will dive into new stories once he wraps the original.

“I started developing the female spinoff…in 2017 with other spinoffs, and the sooner I deliver the finale, the sooner I can launch all the projects,” Diesel said.

With a woman-led spinoff in the works, Diesel’s co-star Michelle Rodrigez, who plays Letty, isn’t sure about returning for it. “You pass the baton on. You take the back seat,” she said. “You go passenger side. When it comes the next generation, you have to. It’s the only way to let them define the future.”

Fast X raced into box offices this past weekend behind an impressive $67.5 million opening weekend in America, replacing Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 3 at the top spot.

Ludacris Reveals New Album Will Be Released In 2024

Rapper Ludacris has revealed in an interview that his next album will most likely be shared with fans next year. In his interview with journalist Tamron Hall, he also shared that fans can expect to see new music later this year. “We’re definitely gonna get some music before the end of this year,” he says. Ludacris went on, “I would say an album, probably next year.” The rapper also cited his role in the upcoming Fast & Furious film Fast X for the delay. When asked what took him so long on this next album, he said “They keep shooting more movies. What am I supposed to do?”

He also said, “When I was young, I feel like some of my favorite rappers, once they get to a certain point, it’s almost like you wish that they were still kind of hungry and you feel like they don’t have it necessarily like they used to.” Ludacris revealed, he “never wanted to be that.” He called it “extremely important” for him “to prove to people that even though [he’s] doing all this other stuff, make no mistake, [he] still got it, and [he’s] still as hungry.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appears in a Fast X scene, despite pledging not to after a feud with Vin Diesel. Fast X, the final installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, stars Vin Diesel, alongside Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, and more. The film premieres in the U.S. later this week on May 19. Diesel asked Johnson to make an appearance in Fast X in November of 2021. Johnson responded to Diesel’s wishes, letting him know that it wasn’t going to happen.

In 2021, Vin Diesel posted a screengrab from an earlier Fast & Furious movie alongside Johnson. His caption reads, “I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to Pablo.” He adds, “I swore that we would reach and manifest the best Fast in the finale.” Diesel tells the actor, “I say this out of love… but you must show up.” Diesel asks the former WWE star to “not leave the franchise idle,” reminding him that, “[he has a very important role to play.” Diesel finished the post with, “Hobbs can’t be played by no other. Johnson later told CNN that he”told [Diesel] directly that I would not be returning to the franchise.” He went on to say he “was firm yet cordial with my words.” Also claiming he, “said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return.” He added that he didn’t like “that he brought up his children in the post,” or “Paul Walker’s death.” Going on to say, “Leave them out of it.” He said the two actors “had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding.”

Since appearing in 2017’s The Fate of the Furious with Diesel, Johnson also appeared in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw in 2019. Johnson has gone back on the statements he made about returning, as shown by his brief appearance in Fast X.
