When news arrived nearly two weeks ago that DMX had passed away, a rain of condolences arrived in honor of the hip-hop legend. Most used social media to share their thoughts like Ruff Ryders members Swizz Beatz, Sheek Louch and Styles P as well as the group’s co-founder Joaquin “Waah” Dean. A noticeable name missing from that list was Jadakiss, who instead decided to honor DMX by giving back to his Yonkers hometown, the city where the late rapper was also born.
In a video he posted on Instagram, Jadakiss invited his followers to come to Palisades Towers, where he would give out fresh boxes of produce to folks in the city. Its caption also explained the giveaway’s purpose as the rapper wrote, “Food Giveaway in Honor of DMX.”
The move from Jadakiss comes after DMX’s family announced the official memorial services to honor the rapper. The first, a “Celebration Of Life Memorial,” will occur on April 24 at 4 p.m. EST and air on YouTube while a second service, a “Home-going Celebration,” will be held on April 25 at 2:30 p.m. EST and air on BET. Per an announcement from DMX’s manager Steve Rifkind last week, it appears the former will take place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and the latter will be at a church in the New York City area.
This Saturday will mark two weeks since DMXdied from a reported drug overdose that occurred the week before and triggered a heart attack that left him on life support until he passed. His death sent ripples through all corners of the world as musicians, athletes, and more took a moment to send condolences and remember the hip-hop legend. They’ll receive another opportunity to honor DMX as his family announced the official memorial services to celebrate the late rapper’s life.
The announcement was made in a post to DMX’s Instagram. There will be two memorial services held for him with the first, a “Celebration Of Life Memorial,” coming on Saturday, April 24 at 4 p.m. EST and the second, a “Home-going Celebration,” on Sunday, April 25 at 2:30 p.m. EST. Both services will be livestreamed for his supporters to see with the former airing on YouTube and the latter on BET. In-person attendance for the Celebration Of Life Memorial and the Home-going Celebration will be “restricted to close friends and family solely due to health and safety guidelines.”
DMX’s manager Steve Rifkind previously confirmed that a memorial for the late rapper would be held at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The report at the time said the April 24 service would be held at the arena while the April 25 service would take place at a church in the New York City area.

DMX’s music is great for a lot of things; contemplating complex emotions, increasing the energy at sporting events, and starting fights at a moment’s notice. All those things are expected — he was the sort of artist whose lyrics nearly always matched the vibe of his songs — but as it turns out, DMX is pretty effective in the area of natal care as well, as Action Bronson learned during the birth of his son. Appearing on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast this week, Bronson shared the story he wished he could have told DMX before the rap legend’s passing.
According to Bronson, his wife had a difficult, 17-hour labor, accompanied by Peruvian flute music (they were in the Andes at the time), facing an impending C-section due to the difficulty and length of the labor. After the doctor advised the couple that time was running out before they would need the surgery, Bronson told the attendees to cut the flutes and drop DMX’s “Ruff Ryder’s Anthem.” As Bronson tells it, upon the first refrain of “”Stop, drop… that motherf*cker jumped out of her. I swear on everything! It’s on camera! It’s on film! As soon as the Peruvian flute music stopped and DMX came on, he f*ckin’ heard the dog and… just jumped out. It hurts my f*ckin’ heart that I was never able to tell him that.”
Since the death of rap icon DMX on April 9, celebrities and fans have shared countless stories of how the inspirational artist impacted their lives. Over the course of his legendary career, DMX had about as much success on the charts as anybody: His first five albums all managed to peak at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Now, after his passing, the late rapper is continuing to have an impact on the charts, as on the new chart dated April 24, he had an album come so close to placing on top.
Taylor Swift is No. 1 on the current Billboard 200 with Fearless (Taylor’s Version), but the 2010 compilation The Best Of DMXmanaged to finish the week at No. 2 and become the rapper’s seventh top-ten album. This is up from No. 73 last week, which was the album’s chart peak at the time. Additionally, two of DMX’s studio albums — 1998’s It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot and 1999’s Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood — re-entered the chart, at No. 46 and 107, respectively.
DMX places three albums on this week’s #Billboard200:
#2, The Best of DMX #46, It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot (re-entry) #107, Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood (re-entry)
The Best Of DMX features some of the rapper’s biggest hits, including all of his RIAA-certified singles: “Get At Me Dog,” “Slippin’,” and “X Gon’ Give It To Ya.” It’s not surprising that the rapper’s music has shot up the charts, as his streams increased by nearly 1,000 percent after his death. He is also set to be memorialized at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
