Pusha T Celebrates The 6th Anniversary Of His Classic Album “DAYTONA”

Pusha T is not one to “reminisce”, but he is doing just that by celebrating the sixth anniversary of DAYTONA. The third solo album for the Virginia Beach, Virginia native, it was also the first of five projects to be executively produced by the one and only Kanye West. It was a legendary summer for hip-hop heads in 2018, as Ye went on to release ye, NASIR, KIDS SEE GHOSTS, as well as K.T.S.E. Out of all of those releases you could make the argument for DAYTONA being the strongest of the bunch. The record began with perhaps one of the best and most memorable intros “If You Know You Know.”

It is a masterclass in coke rap, with King Push talking about the treacherous life of a drug dealer. Then, you have one of the nastiest boom-bap beats and sample flips on “The Games We Play.” Even though Push’s rapping performances were stellar across the board, the production from Kanye really helps sell each track. The middle of the tracklist is fantastic too, but of course no one can forget “Infared.”

Pusha T Fondly Remembers DAYTONA

The game’s f***ed up / N****s’ beats is bangin’, n****, ya hooks did it / The lyric pennin’ equal the Trumps winnin’ / The bigger question is how the Russians did it / It was written like Nas, but it came from Quentin.” These fighting words restarted the beef between him and Drake, prompting him to respond with “Duppy Freestyle.” Of course, it then led to “The Story of Adidon,” which revealed that Drizzy was hiding his now-known son, Adonis. DAYTONA is certainly “the gift that keeps on giving.”

What are your thoughts on Pusha T remembering DAYTONA on its six-year anniversary? Do you still have this project in rotation, why or why not? If so, which songs do you revisit the most? Is this Push’s best album to date? Do you need a new album from him this year? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Pusha T Delivered An Instant Classic With “Come Back Baby”

Pusha T is one of the best rappers alive right now. Overall, he is someone who certainly has a ton of influence. Moreover, he has classic albums as well as some iconic songs. However, it felt like his magnum opus truly came back in 2018 thanks to the GOOD Music summer releases. On May 25th, five years ago to the day, King Push dropped Daytona. This is one of five albums that were entirely produced by Kanye West. Ultimate, Daytona was the first of these releases, and what a way to start off.

There were only seven tracks on this album. Although that is all that was really needed. Pusha T delivered a plethora of fantastic performances all across this project. Of course, he also helped start an iconic run of diss tracks with Drake. That said, there are a few songs here that will always be memorable for fans. One of those songs is “Come Back Baby,” which can be listened to down below.

Pusha T Was In His Bag

Throughout this track we get amazing samples, a steady flow, and some very clever bars. Pusha T sounds incredibly confident on this track, as he does on all of his songs. However, there was just something special about “Come Back Baby” that you could discern right away. To this day, it remains a true favorite of ours.

Pusha T dropped another album last year and it received a whole lot of praise. Although it may not have had the same hype as Daytona, it was still recognized as yet another amazing body of work. Push is a legend and at this point, he can truly do no wrong. Hopefully, he blesses us with another project, very soon. Let us know what you think of “Come Back Baby,” in the comments below. Quotable Lyrics:

Dope just touched down, I’m so grateful
Numbers so low, bitch, be thankful
They say don’t let money change you
That’s how we know money ain’t you
Bitch, I been had, bitches been bad
We buy big boats, bitch, I’m Sinbad

Pusha T Isn’t Playing Around; Says His Next Album Will ‘One-Thousand Percent’ Top ‘Daytona’

If you had an opportunity to see Pusha T play a live show around the time that DAYTONA dropped in 2018, you’d have seen a rapper whose dedication and delivery are on another level in the game. He’s seemingly committed to not just rapping over his songs on stage and for an artist of his caliber, it just increases the intensity of the already pressing music on an album that’s tough to top. But wait…

King Push spoke with Billboard for a feature that was presumably centered about how he was sifting through his closet to produce a portfolio of threads for a “The Vault:Pusha T” Closet Sale on the high-end menswear site Grailed (you can rock Pusha T’s 2015 Burberry floral print jacket for $600; adjust your holiday gift lists accordingly). But the pride of Virginia Beach clearly had more on his mind, namely his next album, which was said to be nearly done back in March when he was just waiting on a collaboration from Kanye West.

He told Billboard today that the project is being mixed and the finishing touches are being put on feature verses. It’s set to have production from The Neptunes and Kanye West, and he added that “I want to give fans an offering of not only great music but something merch-wise, hard copy, vinyl, everything.”

He says the goal is to put some form of music out this year, but the biggest statement was when he called his shot: “I think I’ve topped Daytona for sure,” Push told Billboard. “One-thousand percent.” This is very much in line with when he told the Instagram Live show Behind The Velvet Rope in March that it’ll be “the best album that drops in 2021.” Here’s hoping he’s not reading too much into Kendrick Lamar’s new Spotify photo like everyone else is…
