Lyft Responds To Uber’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ Promo And Is Offering The Beyhive 50 Percent Off Rides To Listening Parties

We are just hours away from Beyoncé‘s eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter. In anticipation for the album, Beyhivers around the world are planning listening parties for the country-influenced record. Ahead of the album, Lyft announced they will be offering a special promo in honor of the Queen Bey.

Lyft riders who use the promo code SPAGHETTI24 will received 50 percent off of rides taken on Friday (March 29), the day of the album release. The offer is good until 11:59 p.m. and is good for one ride, with the discount capping at $20. However, Lyft teased “other code drops soon!”

The promo arrives hours after Uber announced they would be offering Beyoncé fans 16% off of rides taken from 9 p.m. EST on March 28 to midnight on March 30 for riders who use the promo code 16CARRIAGES. For Uber, the discount caps at $16, and users can only use the code once.

Lyft responded to Uber’s announcement on Twitter, saying “crumbs were left,” which many felt was a sassy reply. Lyft doubled down on the sass after a fan suggested “Now offer 50% off rides for 3/29 to whack em.”

In the words of Beyoncé’ herself, “always stay gracious, best revenge is your paper.”

Earlier this week, Uber appeared to tease a collaboration with Beyoncé, after they posted a video of a similar horse from her Cowboy Carter album cover on social media. Now, more details have been revealed about what was in store. “We’ve got some news,” they teased in an Instagram post.

In honor of Beyoncé’s early album single “16 Carriages,” Uber is offering fans the chance to get 16% off of their rides — in case anyone is heading out to hear the record at a party tonight.

For those looking to get the Uber discount, fans can use the promo code “16CARRIAGES” for 16% off (only up to $16). This deal will only be available from 9 p.m. ET tonight (March 28) until 9 p.m. ET tomorrow (March 29).

This is also only available as a one-time use, so users will not be able to apply it for a round trip — only for a single ride to a listening party. The release also notes that the offer and terms can change, but people can find additional information about it in their Uber app.

I didn’t do a very good job of burying the lede here. Yes, Tanner Adell is on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter. According to Genius, Adell is featured on “Blackbiird,” Beyoncé’s aforementioned cover of The Beatles’ 1968 classic “Blackbird.”

In February 2023, Kyle Denis examined Black artists forging a path on TikTok for Uproxx and described Adell as having a sonic profile that “blends the vocal bombast of a young Carrie Underwood with the lyrical flourishes of early Taylor Swift.” This February, after Beyoncé released “16 Carriages” and “Texas Hold ‘Em” during Super Bowl LVIII, Adell posted something on X (formerly Twitter) that packs a much heavier punch now: “As one of the only Black girls in [the] country music scene, I hope Bey decides to sprinkle me with a dash of her magic for a collab.” Well, she did!

Thirteen years later, Beyoncé was born (thank God), and roughly 42 years later, Beyoncé will release a cover of “Blackbird,” which is listed as “Blackbiird” on her Cowboy Carter tracklist. The highly anticipated country album is due out on Friday, March 29, serving as her Renaissance “Act II.” Cowboy Carter also finds Beyoncé covering Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and welcoming Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, and Shaboozey as featured artists.

The Meaning Behind The Beatles’ “Blackbird,” Which Beyoncé Covers On Cowboy Carter

In 2018, Sir Paul McCartney explained to GQ how and why he wrote “Blackbird,” as excerpted below:

“I was sitting around with my acoustic guitar, and I’d heard about the civil rights troubles that were happening in the ’60s, in Alabama, Mississippi, [and] Little Rock, in particular, so that was in my mind, and I just thought it’d be really good if I could write something that if it ever reached any of the people going through those problems, it might give ’em a little bit of hope. So, I wrote ‘Blackbird.’

And in England, a bird is a girl, so I was thinking of a Black girl going through this, you know, now is your time to arise, set yourself free, and take these broken wings. One of the nice things about music is that you know that a lot of people listening to you are going to take seriously what you are saying in the song. So, I’m very proud of the fact that The Beatles’ output is always really pretty positive.”

In 2016, McCartney met Thelma Mothershed Wair and Elizabeth Eckford, two Little Rock Nine members who attended his concert in Little Rock, Arkansas, as relayed by Rolling Stone at the time. McCartney posted a photo alongside them and wrote, “Incredible to meet two of the Little Rock Nine—pioneers of the civil rights movement and inspiration for ‘Blackbird.’”

Beyonce fans were probably anticipating that they’d have to wait until Midnight tonight to get all the juicy details on her new country album COWBOY CARTER. But thanks to overseas markets where the album dropped early a flood of information on the record made the rounds ahead of its official release. The included information about its length which is officially an hour and 18 minutes. It also included details about the concept of a country music radio station that runs throughout.

But perhaps most importantly for fans, it confirmed two new collaborators who lent their voices to COWBOY CARTER. Post Malone and Miley Cyrus will both be making contributions to the record, both of whom feel like fitting choices for Bey dipping her toes into country. Miley will be appearing on a song called “II MOST WANTED” while Post will contribute to a track called “LEVII’S JEANS.” The album is due out tonight and will look to make a splash on both the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 in the coming weeks.

COWBOY CARTER has already been teased with two successful singles.
