It’s Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter release week and it’s time to celebrate. She officially kicked off the party yesterday by revealing the tracklist, with a full 27 songs that fans can hear very soon. One of the tracks caught people’s attention, as it was titled “The Linda Martell Show” — leaving many searching for more information about who she is.

Here’s what to know about the historical figure that Beyoncé pulled her inspiration from.

Who Is Linda Martell From Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Album?

Linda Martell is known as the first successful Black female performer in country music, which is why Beyoncé wanted to pay tribute to her. Although she retired in 1974, she had played the Grand Ole Opry as a solo artist. While she originally started by making pop music, according to a profile in Rolling Stone, Martell was encouraged to try her hand at country music in 1969 by an A&R representative named Shelby Singleton Jr. — and she signed a deal with him.

“Country music tells a story,” she told the publication in 2020. “When you choose a song and you can feel it, that’s what made me feel great about what I was singing. I did a lot of country songs, and I loved every one of them. Because they just tell a story.”

Beyonce’s New Album Features Post Malone & Miley Cyrus

Beyonce fans were probably anticipating that they’d have to wait until Midnight tonight to get all the juicy details on her new country album COWBOY CARTER. But thanks to overseas markets where the album dropped early a flood of information on the record made the rounds ahead of its official release. The included information about its length which is officially an hour and 18 minutes. It also included details about the concept of a country music radio station that runs throughout.

But perhaps most importantly for fans, it confirmed two new collaborators who lent their voices to COWBOY CARTER. Post Malone and Miley Cyrus will both be making contributions to the record, both of whom feel like fitting choices for Bey dipping her toes into country. Miley will be appearing on a song called “II MOST WANTED” while Post will contribute to a track called “LEVII’S JEANS.” The album is due out tonight and will look to make a splash on both the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 in the coming weeks.

COWBOY CARTER has already been teased with two successful singles. After the album’s surprise announcement during the Super Bowl, Bey dropped “16 CARRIAGES” and “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM.” The former performed quite well while the latter became a full on smash hit that’s still lingering in the top 10 of the Hot 100.

Another big reveal about the album came earlier in the week. When the names of the tracks on the record were shared it revealed that the project contains a cover version of Dolly Parton’s country classic “JOLENE.” The song also features an appearance from legendary country figure Willie Nelson. Fan hype is through the roof waiting to see just how much Bey indulges in the sounds and styles of country throughout. Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ Tracklist Brings Miley Cyrus And Post Malone To The Rodeo

Things are about to get real, as we’re just days away from the March 29 release date of Beyoncé’s new album, Cowboy Carter. In the lead-up, fans have been clamoring for details about the project, and today (March 27), Beyoncé revealed some big ones by unveiling the tracklist.

The tracklist, as presented on Beyoncé’s Instagram post sharing it, doesn’t confirm or deny the rumors of Travis Scott and Lady Gaga being featured on the album. However, there does appear to be a track called “Dolly P,” followed by a track titled “Jolene,” presumably a cover of Dolly Parton’s classic. Again, the post’s formatting doesn’t make it clear, but it looks like there’s either a song called “Smoke Hour Willie Nelson” or a song called “Smoke Hour” featuring Nelson, with the latter option seeming more likely.

(Update: The full tracklist with features was revealed ahead of the album’s North American release, when it became available in international markets like New Zealand and Australia, as Consequence notes. Featured on the album are Shaboozey, Miley Cyrus, and Post Malone. The publication also notes the album is presented in the style of a country radio show, and making appearances as DJs are Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and Linda Martell.)

Post Malone and Miley Cyrus Rumored as Features on Beyoncé’s ‘Act II’

Beyoncé Announces 'Act II' Album, Releases Two New Singles

Beyoncé’s Act II just got even bigger. Pop Crave reports that Miley Cyrus and Post Malone will be on the Act II: Cowboy Carter album.

Beyoncé’s debut country album, Act II: Cowboy Carter, will be released tomorrow at midnight on all platforms. The 32-time Grammy winner just released the tracklist before its highly anticipated March 29 release date.

Beyoncé dropped the news on Instagram as she has in the past to preview the tracklist. Notable songs include “Jolene,” a record Dolly Parton previously teased, which may appear in Beyoncé’s second Renaissance installment. Another title that stood out was “The Linda Martell Show,” a notable reference to one of the first commercially successful Black artists in country music, not to mention the first to play the Opry.

Now, get this: It’s not clear if “Dolly P” and “Smoke Hour Willie Nelson” are telltales that two of the biggest names in country music are featured on those records, so we’ll have to wait and see. Reports have shown that Travis Scott may appear in a cameo, but that has not been confirmed.

ICYMI, Beyoncé jump-started her move into the genre back in February when, out of nowhere, she released two singles, “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” both during the Super Bowl.

In a previous post on Instagram, Beyoncé explained why she began studying the origins of country music. “It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed… and it was very clear that I wasn’t,” she said. “But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive.”

Whether you’re a country music fan or not, the queen is about to drop, and we’re here for it.

“COWBOY CARTER” Tracklist: Beyonce’s Next Album To Include “Jolene,” “Levii’s Jeans,” And 25 More Songs

It feels like just yesterday that Beyonce shared her groundbreaking RENAISSANCE album, but it’s due to celebrate its second anniversary this July. As promised, she’ll be sharing the second part of the three-installment series this Friday (March 29), and has already been giving us a COWBOY CARTER rollout that’s full of inspiring Western looks for the summer season. On Tuesday (March 26), the “Halo” hitmaker donned a Canadian tuxedo for an Instagram Reel soundtracked to Sly & The Family Stone’s “Spaced Cowboy.”

In the comment section, the BeyHive didn’t take long to begin begging for the tracklist. Thankfully, unlike her RENAISSANCE visuals, the blonde beauty quickly obliged, unveiling the impressive 27-song lineup for COWBOY CARTER on Wednesday afternoon. It’s unclear if she’ll be working with any other artists, but we do know the previously teased cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” appears to be on the album. Other titles like “DOLLY P” and “WILLIE NELSON SMOKE HOUR” suggest we could hear from the country legends alongside Bey, but only time will tell. Interestingly, rumours are also circulating about a potential second link-up with Travis Scott.
