Cordae Takes A Moment To Relish In His Success On The Celebratory ‘Multi-Platinum’

There’s no denying Cordae’s success in music. At just 25 years old, the DMV rapper packed plenty of accomplishments on his resume. He’s a Grammy-nominated rapper thanks to his debut album, The Lost Boy. He’s worked with celebrated artists like Eminem, Chance The Rapper, HER, Robert Glasper, Common, Nas, and more. He also has two top-15 albums to his name thanks to The Lost Boy and From A Birds Eye View. All of these accomplishments and more are at the center of his new single, “Multi-Platinum.”

Cordae’s latest release is quite the celebratory effort as he takes a moment to relish in his success, something he has every right to do especially at his young age. Thanks to production from Kid Culture, Cordae uses the track to narrate this very success from start to now. The track also stands as his first official release since sharing From A Birds Eye View earlier this year.

Months after releasing From A Birds Eye View, Cordae admitted that the project was not better than his debut. “Yo so l just drove on a lil 4 hour road trip and listened to both my albums front to back,” he wrote. “And f*ck I must say it’s most definitely “The Lost Boy > FABEV lmaooo. My bad y’all. Ima do better next time. I got sumn to prove.”

You can listen to “Multi-Platinum” in the video above.

Cordae Turns ‘From A Bird’s Eye View’ Into A Soaring Visual Album

Cordae may have decided that his most recent album, From A Bird’s Eye View, doesn’t quite measure up to his debut, The Lost Boy, but that hasn’t stopped him from continuing to push the new album in new and unexpected directions. The latest is a live, visual version of From A Bird’s Eye View that will include live versions of the album’s standouts “C Carter,” “Chronicles,” “Sinister,” and “Super.” The live version of the album is available now, exclusively on Facebook. You can check it out here.

In addition to promoting From A Bird’s Eye View, Cordae has been busy on other projects, including launching his label, Hi-Level Productions, and explaining his Hi-Level philosophy in an insightful TED Talk. Musically, he recently collaborated with North Carolinian rap crooner Morray on “Still Here,” and is preparing for the European leg of his From A Bird’s Eye View Tour, which will include dates in Amsterdam, Belfast, Dublin, London, Manchester, Paris, Stockholm, and more. Cordae Compares His Albums And Thinks One Is Way Better Than The Other

With social media giving fans an avenue to tell artists exactly what we think about each of their projects (among other things), it’s easy to forget that it can work just as well the other way, with artists telling us what they think about their albums. Usually, this has a much more desirable effect, sparking engagement and offering insight into artists’ creative processes, such as the time(s) Jay-Z ranked all of his albums.

Despite only having two albums out, Cordae gave his honest opinion on them after comparing them during a recent road trip, including which was the best. While both The Lost Boy and From A Bird’s Eye View received mostly positive reviews, it’s hard to argue that his sophomore release was received quite as warmly by either fans or critics (for one thing, his debut was nominated for a Best Rap Album Grammy). As it turns out, Cordae seems to agree with their assessments.

“Yo so l just drove on a lil 4 hour road trip and listened to both my albums front to back,” he wrote on Twitter. “And f*ck I must say it’s most definitely “The Lost Boy > FABEV lmaooo. My bad y’all. Ima do better next time. I got sumn to prove.”

It’s pretty funny when artists admit that they could have come harder on a project after the fact. After all, in the olden days before we had social media, they could just ignore negative responses and start working on their new music. Now, though, we know that even top stars don’t always love their own work — although Cordae did have one request for his fans: “Keep streaming chronicles tho haha.”

Cordae makes his TED Talk debut today with “The Hi Level Mindset.” Cordae makes the case in “The Hi Level Mindset” for doing anything you put your hands on to the best of your ability, with an intense work ethic and seriousness in all you do, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

Cordae’s acclaimed sophomore album, From A Birds Eye View, was the subject of today’s TED Talk. The 14-track album sees Cordae recounting these memories and more through technicolor visuals, snappy rhymes, and rapidly expanding wisdom, all inspired by a life-changing trip to Africa, enduring the death of a buddy gone too soon, and evolving as an artist and a man. The album featured Stevie Wonder, Lil Wayne, Freddie Gibbs, Eminem, H.E.R., Lil Durk, Gunna, and Roddy Ricch.

Cordae Compares Himself To Ja Rule In His Insightful TED Talk

In just three years, Cordae has gone from being a relatively unknown second banana in a viral favorite rap group to an accomplished solo rapper to a Grammy nominee and renowned activist. Most new artists would be fine with working alongside Stevie Wonder and dating an international tennis superstar, but apparently, Cordae has even bigger plans. His next step appears to be “motivational speaker,” as he premieres his first-ever TED Talk about what he calls the “Hi-Level mentality,” named after his recently launched label.

Of course, he recognizes that there might not be much overlap between the crowds who regularly attend TED conferences and Rolling Loud festivals, so he lightens up the mood during his introduction with a universal joke: A reference to the infamous “Where’s Ja?” meme kicked off by Dave Chappelle back when Cordae himself was just six years old. “I know what you’re thinking,” he predicts. “What does a 24-year-old rapper possibly have to say turning a TED Talk? Like, ‘Who cares what Ja Rule thinks,’ you know?”

It turns out, he has plenty to say, recounting how his mom raised him in a series of neighborhoods so bad that her car was once stolen twice in the same week but continually upgraded to the point where such things were no longer a concern. He also details how his own discipline led to his own rise in stature in the rap business and encourages the audience to “maximize your time on this earth.”

Cordae Speaks Out in Support of YSL: “They Showed Me More Genuine Love Than Anybody!”

YBN Cordae005

Cordae hit Twitter and spoke out in support of Young Thug, Gunna and YSL who are currently in jail awaiting trial on a 56-count RICO indictment. “Free the Whole YSL Family ! They showed me more genuine love than damn near anybody!”

In his messages on social media, Cordae spoke in support of the rappers and also against the use of lyrics in courtrooms.

“Protect Black Art!” Cordae wrote. “Also Using Lyrics against someone on trial is nuts ! It’s a form of self expression that shouldn’t be used in a literal sense especially in a court of law.”

Gunna appeared on “Today” from Cordae’s From a Bird’s Eye View album. Cordae and Young Thug also appeared together on wax, exchanging bars on “Wassup” from the Just Until…. EP.

Cordae isn’t the only one speaking of the good that YSL does. Last month, Meek Mill spoke about Gunna and Young Thug and the opportunity they provide:

“Thug put on many families I seen with my own eyes… stand up for them in these times not the lit ones! Labels, women, n****s… I pray that DA be fair to them knowing what we out here tryna survive. Thug and Gunna ain’t no crime bosses, they successful rappers with influence that didn’t leave their environment behind… If you bring your environment with you it’s basically RICO. Watch yourself out here.

The people I did the most for tryna take me out ‘but can’t’ or tryna manipulate the world. I’m a bad person because they ain’t hold up the ‘loyalty’ part.”

Does Meek have a point? Peep his commentary below.
