Mad Dog Gives Scathing Review Of Dalvin Cook Signing With The Jets

The New York Jets added yet another potent offensive weapon this week as they signed free agent running back Dalvin Cook. Between 2019 and 2022, Cook had five consecutive 1100-yard seasons on the ground. Furthermore, he is the Vikings’ third all-time leading rusher, only trailing Adrian Peterson and Robert Smith. However, Cook left the Vikings back in July in a cut that many expected, but few Vikings fans wanted to believe was true. It saved the Vikings a lot of money, despite Cook putting up 1173 yards last season.

Cook is the latest big-name addition for the Jets as they try to build a legitimate contender around their primary offseason acquisition, Aaron Rodgers. However, Cook will likely play backup to sophomore Breece Hall, who the Jets also activated from injured reserve this week. There are legitimate concerns that the Jets are now too stacked, with too much talent and not enough game time to effectively leverage it. However, Robert Salah appears confident that the team can mesh. However, not everyone is a fan of the signing.

Mad Dog Mocks Cook Signing

ESPN‘s Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo was especially critical of the signing. “He’s got so much baggage,” the veteran pundit began, “There is a lot of baggage with this guy. Nobody else wanted him. The Vikings let him go, Miami didn’t sign him.” While his fellow pundits were taken about by his claims, Mad Dog stayed vigilant, “How much has Minnesota won? You don’t need running backs. Plus, this creates expectations for the Jets. The Jets fans thought they were going to be great anyways. Now you bring Cook in. Did they need Dalvin Cook to be good?”

Mad Dog’s argument is pretty weak. The Jets got a versatile running back for less than $10 million on a one-year contract, which is crucial given that Breece Hall, the RB1, is coming back from injury. Furthermore, they need that extra veteran presence on a team that is getting consistently younger year on year. For all the experienced talent the Jets are bringing in, a lot of their players are newer to the league. Cook brings good numbers – he out-rushed the Jets’ three top running backs in 2022 combined – and he brings that veteran experience. There is very little that the Cook signing does to hurt the Jets, even if it could be viewed as superfluous.

Stephen A. Smith Can’t Keep It Together After Chris Russo Says “Booty”

When Chris “Mad Dog” Russo joined Stephen A. on First Take last year, fans weren’t exactly sure what to make of it. Overall, it was a hit from the beginning as Russo and Smith showcased a ton of chemistry. Although they typically have opposing views, their personalities work perfectly together.

Furthermore, they both come from the old-school way of broadcasting. While the young kids may not respect “Mad Dog,” Smith knows what he’s about. He knows that Russo is someone who has thought quite a bit about his takes, although knows when to amp up the energy.

Stephen A. Won’t Hold Back

There are some segments where these two cannot contain their laughter. Of course, this happened last week as Russo yelled at Smith for going on a book tour. Subsequently, we got yet another gem this week that almost had Stephen A. rolling on the floor laughing.

In the video clip down below, Smith and Russo are debating with Mel Kiper about what to do with NFL draft capital. At one point, Russo was talking about draft assets, however, he used the word “Booty.” While he meant in the treasure sense, Smith couldn’t help but think of the other meaning. This led to some hilarious laughter, with Kiper and Molly Qerim joining in. Russo tried to move on, however, the laughter was just too overwhelming.

This was definitely one of the funnier moments of the Chris Russo tenure on this show. A lot of the younger fans have finally come around him, and it seems like he will be part of the show for years to come.

Stephen A. Smith Hilariously Yelled At By An Irate Chris Russo

Stephen A. Smith is easily one of the most recognizable faces on sports talk television. He is someone who is respected by his peers over at ESPN, and he is always entertaining. Although some fans might find his takes to be nauseating, you cannot deny his impact.

As we have previously reported, Smith is currently promoting his brand-new book called Straight Shooter. This is an autobiography in which he details his childhood and his subsequent rise to fame. Overall, it is a very interesting book from the television star.

Stephen A. Gets A Talking TO

Hilariously, not everyone is a fan of Smith’s book tour, which he launched as a way to promote the autobiography. One such detractor is his very own co-worker, Chris Russo. On yesterday’s First Take, Russo laced into Smith, telling him that he needs to stop cutting work for media appearances.

“Get your rear end in that chair,” Russo yelled. “I want you here every day at nine o’clock in the morning, not getting here at five after 10, not leaving here after the Cowboys win and you leave at 10:30 to do what? THE VIEW!

“How dare you miss openings of shows to do radio or TV interviews. YOU LEFT AT 10:30! Today we needed to have a talk at ten to 10 and you’re running back from Howard Stern! You’re not even in the office yet! Enough already! You’ve made a fortune! We get it, the book’s not bad, we can move on. Can we move on from this stupid book? I’ve had enough of Straight Shooter!”

Throughout this entire sequence, Molly Qerim and Marcus Spears could not control their laughter. Moreover, even Stephen A. was cracking a smile through the whole thing. Overall, it was classic Chris Russo.
