Wild Draymond Green Landing Spot Floated By Brian Windhorst

Draymond Green officially declined his player option with the Golden State Warriors earlier in June. While Green is likely to return to the Warriors, his decision means that other teams are able to approach him as well.

Furthermore, there should be a healthy market for the veteran. Green is an elite defender who could easily bolster the championship hopes of several title contenders. While there are some attitude issues that could cause hesitation in pursuing Green, his play is more than other the occasional on-court issue.

However, ESPN‘s Brian Windhorst suggested a particularly wild place for Green to sign with – the Sacramento Kings. While the Kings launched themselves into the Western Conference conversation last season, Green’s recent history with the team makes it an unusual pairing, to say the least.

Draymond Green To The Kings?

Windhorst pointed to the Kings’ draft day moves as signs they were chasing a big signing. During the draft, Sacramento sent Richaun Holmes and 24th overall draft pick Olivier Maxence-Prosper for a return to be announced later. The move allowed the Kings to create some much-needed cap space for a major signing.

“The Kings can now go hunting for Draymond Green if they wish,” Windhorst said on ESPN’s draft coverage show.“And that would be extraordinarily interesting because it is the exact, the exact, type of player they need…” As mentioned, Green is an elite defender, one of the best in the NBA.

However, catching himself, Windhorst went on to explain why the trade would be interesting. “You know, it would be interesting with Sabonis. That would be an interesting first practice.” Famously, Green earned himself a suspension during the Warriors’ playoff series against the Kings for stomping on Domantas Sabonis. Those would definitely be negotiations you would pay to be in the room for.

Brian Windhorst Is Having A Wild Take Week

However, Green to the Kings isn’t the only wild thing Windhorst has said this week. Speaking before the draft on First Take, Windhorst said that Victor Wembanyama’s skill set is ahead of LeBron’s at the same age. Wembanyama went first overall to the Spurs, as expected.

However, just how wild of a take is it? On the one hand, Wembanyama is a lean 7″2 who is going to struggle against more physical defenders. Furthermore, he’s never played in the American system of basketball, be it the NBA, G League, or another development league. While he’s been playing professionally since 2019, it’s on a much more relaxed schedule against “inferior” competition to what he will face in the NBA.

Despite this, Wembanyana is unlike any prospect the NBA has ever seen. His skill set is so unique that LeBron went as far as to call him an “alien”. Furthermore, he has spent the last four years focused purely on basketball, playing professionally in a well-regarded European league. Regardless, the debate also to whether he is worth the hype will be answered when he debuts in the summer league in a few months.

Brian Windhorst is someone who has been around NBA prospects for a very long time. Back in the day, he was the man in charge of following LeBron James. Subsequently, when James got to the league, Windy continued to follow James around. Although some people would roast Windhorst for this, a lot of people have grown to love him. Overall, he has some very solid insights, and there are times when he has a scoop that other reporters just don’t get.

On the night of the draft lottery, Brian Windhorst was in France where he was with Victor Wembanyama. Wembanyama is by far one of the most hyped prospects since LeBron James. For many, this was the Wembanyama draft. He is a tall player who is incredibly versatile. It is hard to imagine him not doing well in the NBA, especially when you consider everything that he can do out on the basketball court.

For instance, Brian Windhorst was on First Take today where he got to talk about the similarities between LeBron James and Victor Wembanyama. As you will see above, Windhorst is so high on Wemby that he believes the young man is actually better at his current age than LeBron was at that same age. “I think [Wembanyama’s] skill set … is ahead of where LeBron was at the same age,” Windhorst said with no sarcasm in his voice.

For a lot of fans, this is going to be a wild statement to make. After all, Wembanyama has yet to prove anything in the NBA. He hasn’t even played a preseason game yet. LeBron James Injury Gets Sobering Update

LeBron James has been dealing with some injury issues as of late. Against the Dallas Mavericks a few weeks ago, James injured his foot. Overall, it was seen as a pretty bad injury considering he heard something pop. Subsequently, James was told that he would be reevaluated in just three weeks’ time. This came at a bad time for the Lakers as they are trying to make the playoffs. They want to avoid the play-in, although that might not be possible now.

On social media, LeBron has been teasing a return to the game. That said, there is some skepticism in regard to this. The team has yet to make any statements on James, and reporters haven’t exactly heard anything positive. Moreover, a new report from Briand Windhorst is showing how this could be a sobering situation for the Lakers. Essentially, Windhorst has been told that James is not close to returning. Furthermore, this is not an injury that you can really play through. Having said that, the Lakers may be without James in the playoffs, if they even get there.

LeBron Continues To Heal

“LeBron is not close to returning, from what I am told,” Windhorst said. “I know that everybody said the three weeks but I think it was very clear three weeks is when he’s going to get an official re-evaluation. It didn’t mean he’s coming back in three weeks. I know that LeBron has played through injuries in the past, I’m not 100 percent sure this is an injury you can play through.” Overall, this is bad news for the Lakers. They need all the help they can get, although for now, they must get by with what they have.

If you are a Los Angeles Lakers fan, it is hard to not be discouraged right now. The team only has 12 games left, and they must win over half of them in order to ensure a play-in spot.
