Ice Spice Admits She Had A Crush On SpongeBob

Ice Spice says that SpongeBob SquarePants is the only animated character that she’s ever had a crush on. In a clip on social media shared by DJ Akademiks on Wednesday, the New York rapper explained her reasoning.

“The only animated character I ever had a crush on was like, SpongeBob,” she admitted. “He’s very integrated in my life.” Plenty of users used the comment as a chance to compare themselves to the Nickelodeon character. “ngl these days i be feelin like a sponge yk,” one said. It’s not the first time that Ice Spice has revealed her fandom for SpongeBob SquarePants. On her debut EP, Like..?, Spice named a track in reference to the show, “Bikini Bottom,” while the production is similar in style to the series’ background music.

As for other music, Spice recently featured on PinkPantheress’ “Boy’s a liar Pt. 2,” which has blown up into one of the biggest singles in the country. During a recent interview with Dazed, Ice Spice reflected on collaborating with the English singer. “I’m so excited to be collaborating with her, because I’m really a huge fan, ever since I first heard of her I’ve been a fan,” Spice told the outlet. “So for her to ask me to hop on ‘Boy’s a Liar,’ I’m really excited. And the video is fire too. It’s unexpected, but we still have a correlation to each other somehow. Even before the record, fans really wanted it. There was already requests for that.” She added: “We definitely spoke about being new artists and just how crazy it is, having to develop and stuff so fast. But we both was just so happy to be there on set, and happy to be getting this collab done. Like, ‘Boys a Liar,’ it’s fire, ‘Boys a Liar Pt 2’ is fire. Obsessed.”

Ice Spice Releases “Like…?” EP

No matter your opinion of her, Ice Spice’s only getting started. Following an incredible breakout year, the Bronx rapper emerged this week with the release of her debut EP, Like…?. The six-song effort includes previously released singles such as “Bikini Bottom,” “In Ha Mood,” and her 2022 breakout hit, “Munch (Feelin U).”

Released through 10K Projects/Capitol Records, Spice capitalizes on her ability to craft infectious hits and quotable bars. Being that she is the Bronx Baddie, she emphasizes her homegrown vernacular in songs like “Actin A Smoochie,” just like she did “Munch.”

However, it also showcases her versatility, as well. During a recent interview with New York Times, the Bronx rapper explained how she aspired to reach beyond Internet fandom and memes.

“For me personally, I think I have passed that,” she said. “I do want to be a mainstream artist. I want diamond records and plaques and Grammys. So I think in order to get that, you do have to surpass just one subgenre.”

With RIOTUSA handling the production, Ice Spice drops three unreleased records on the project, such as the highly-anticipated collab with Lil Tjay, “Gangsta Boo.” Unlike her other hits, the collaboration with Lil Tjay locks into the sample-drill sound with an interpolation of Diddy’s “I Need A Girl Part 2.” The two intended to shoot a video for the single this week but Tjay ended up arrested and Spice filmed a visual for “In Ha Mood” instead.

Above all, Ice Spice combats the criticism and continues to feed her hungry fanbase with even more hit records. Check out Ice Spice’s new project, Like..? below and sound off with your thoughts in the comments.
