What Is Harry Styles’s Best-Selling Album?

As a member of the ultra-famous boy band One Direction, Harry Styles was already used to releasing commercially successful albums. However, solo success is rarely ever assured once a popular musical group splits up. Nonetheless, Styles maintained his universal appeal as a solo act and has so far released three commercially acclaimed LPs. His sophomore album, Fine Line, released in 2019, became a global smash hit and has remained the best-selling album of his solo career.

Regarding critical reception, his third album, Harry’s House, takes the crown. However, in terms of sales, there’s still quite a ways to go before Fine Line is trumped. Embracing a more mature, sexy pop-rock style, Fine Line showcased his musical evolution perfectly. The album also arrived when he started to be taken seriously as a fashion star on the rise. As a result, of all his albums, Harry Styles brewed up significant buzz before his second LP dropped.

Harry’s Sales

With Fine Line, Styles became a certified record-breaker. The album became the biggest debut from a British male artist since the emergence of the Nielsen Soundscan era. It sold a mouthwatering 478,000 units in its first week, of which 393,000 were pure sales. As a result, Fine Line debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, making Harry Styles the first British male artist to debut at No. 1 with his first two albums. Naturally, with such a strong debut, the album sold millions of copies overall.

In the United States, Fine Line has been certified 3x Platinum for sales of over three million units. In the UK, it has achieved a 2x Platinum, selling over 600,000 copies. Regarding numbers, Brazil and Canada boast over 320,000 units sold, resulting in a 2x Diamond certification in the former and a 4x Platinum certification in the latter. Right behind is Mexico, where Fine Line has been certified Diamond for selling over 300,000 units. In Australia, the LP achieved a 3x Platinum, with over 210,000 copies sold. Pop Rock At Its Finest

Styles’ eponymous debut album had begun to shed off his boy band persona. However, it was Fine Line that signified an even more musically confident artist. Harry Styles also re-enlisted Tyler Johnson, Jeff Bhasker, and Kid Harpoon to work on his sophomore LP, which is why his first two albums have a similar feel. Nonetheless, the growth was evident.

The singles released were also successful. However, it was the funk-pop track “Watermelon Sugar” that propelled Styles to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Overall, Fine Line was a sultry project filled with memoir-esque tracks about joy, tears, and sex. It was also the project that made Styles a musical force to be reckoned with. Perfectly balancing his newfound fashionista persona with his eclectic music style, the former One Direction member had become a fully-fledged pop star.

What Is Bruno Mars’ Best-Selling Album?

Bruno Mars is often considered a well-rounded artist- his singles, albums, and concert sales are often through the roof. Ever since his official debut as a solo artist in 2010, he’s been unstoppable. With a piercing vocal tone and a vibrant stage persona, Bruno Mars is one of the most prolific musicians of the modern age. While he’s come into his own as a musician, his debut showcased a softer side to his artistry.

While his most recent albums have shown him in a funkier, groovier light, Bruno Mars kicked off his solo career as a pop and R&B crooner. In particular, he became quite famous for his endearing and timeless love songs. In hindsight, perhaps that’s why his debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans has remained the best-selling album of his career. Bruno Mars has since released more critically adored albums, but Doo-Wops still reigns supreme when it comes to commercial success.

A “Grenade” Of An Album

Bruno Mars’ debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, understandably didn’t make it to the top of the Billboard 200 charts. As a rising solo act, his fame wasn’t quite at its apex yet. Specifically, the album achieved first-week sales of 55,000. However, these moderate numbers would pale in comparison to the heights the album would eventually reach.

Doo-Wops & Hooligans has since been certified 7x Platinum in the US, selling over seven million units. Likewise, it also achieved a septuple-platinum certification in the UK for sales of over 2.1 million units. In the Philippines, Bruno Mars achieved an outstanding double-Diamond certification, and Doo-Wops is one of the best-selling albums in the country. This is as a result of over 300,000 units sold. Additionally, in Singapore, it achieved a 4x Platinum, selling over 40,000 copies.

In Europe, the album also enjoyed great success. For example, Denmark, Ireland, France, and Switzerland boasted 6x, 4x, 2x, and 2x Platinum certifications. In detail, the numbers of units sold were: 120,000, 60,000, 200,000, and 60,000 respectively. In Australia, the album sold over 280,000 copies, achieving a 4x Platinum, while in New Zealand, it sold over 150,000, scoring a 10x Platinum certification. Overall, of all the albums in his repertoire, Bruno Mars enjoyed a greater, widespread, global success with his first solo LP.

Everybody Loves A Good Love Song

As the 2010s ushered in a new wave of dance-pop tracks, Doo-Wops & Hooligans stuck to a winning formula- the classic serenade. While many albums began to house just one or two ballads, Bruno Mars opted for many, many more. His debut solo single, “Just the Way You Are,” became a chart-topping smash hit. Furthermore, it finished the 2011 calendar year as the best-selling digital single, with over 12.5 million units sold. It also won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

Likewise, his next single, “Grenade,” achieved a similar feat, becoming the second best-selling digital single of 2011, with over 10.2 million units sold. Evidently, the world could not get enough of Bruno Mars’ swoon-worthy love songs. Altogether, the album was a masterclass in romantic progressions, vocal strength, and relatable lyrics.

The production behind Doo-Wops & Hooligans was also one of the album’s highlights. It was produced by Mars’ group, The Smeezingtons, alongside Needlz, and Supa Dups. Overall, his debut project propelled him to great fame, achieving milestone sales that he’s yet to replicate.

What Is Taylor Swift’s Best-Selling Album?

In the music industry, artist reinventions can be a hit-or-miss affair. So when Taylor Swift announced she was transitioning from a country-pop darling to a full-blown pop star, critics and fans were understandably divided. After all, she had already established herself as America’s country sweetheart by the late 2000s. Nonetheless, after teasing her hybrid sounds on the albums Speak Now and Red, Taylor Swift did the unthinkable with her fifth project, 1989.

On 1989, Taylor Swift became a definitive pop artist. To put it plainly, she shed all traces of her country music roots and did so rather authentically. A breakaway from her previous sounds, she ushered in a new era of synth-pop greatness, solidifying her name in the pop history books. As the world got a taste of her pop star power, Taylor Swift crushed the sales of her first four albums. Overall, 1989 has since remained the best-selling album of her career.

Groundbreaking Numbers From America’s Sweetheart

Taylor Swift was no stranger to gargantuan sales before 1989 was released. In detail, her self-titled debut album has sold over seven million copies worldwide. In the same vein, her sophomore album, Fearless, has achieved over 11 million sales. However, by her fifth album, she completely disintegrated the glass ceiling sales-wise.

1989 has since sold over 14 million copies around the world and is the best album of her career commercially. Also, of all the albums released in 2014, Taylor Swift took the crown as the best-selling artist. As far as first-week sales, the album scored a colossal 1.287 million copies, shattering all publications’ predictions. Specifically, the album has received a 9x Platinum certification from the RIAA, with over nine million units sold. The most recent certification for the album was on December 11, 2017. Therefore, and especially following her earth-shattering Eras Tour, 1989 should very much be on the cusp of a Diamond certification in the US.

Furthermore, in the UK, the album has achieved a 5x Platinum certification, for sales of over three million units. In Canada, 1989 sold over 540,000 units, earning a 6x Platinum. The album also performed very well in Australia and New Zealand. It was certified 11x and 9x Platinum respectively, for sales of over 770,000 and 135,000. Moreover, Brazil, Italy, France, Germany, and Japan earned platinum certifications, with sales of 40,000, 50,000, 100,000, 200,000, and 250,000 respectively.

1989: A Showcase In Artist Reinvention

Taylor Swift brought something unlike ever seen or heard before in her previous albums. By taking the risk of reinventing herself and her musical artistry, she successfully shocked the world. As a result, she gained a much larger fanbase, and in return, greater sales. While her third and fourth albums simply toed the line between country and pop, Taylor Swift left little to the imagination in terms of her new sound. In summary, she was unmistakably and unabashedly pop. 1989 would later go on to win the Album Of The Year award at the 2016 Grammys.

A Plethora Of Hit Singles

Taylor Swift previously worked with producer Max Martin on Red, and he stayed on for her subsequent albums, 1989 and Reputation. Other producers on 1989 include Jack Antonoff, Ryan Tedder, and Imogen Heap, among others. Altogether, the songs on the album were a unification of the impeccable sounds of several pop-centric producers. Out of seven singles released, three topped the Billboard Hot 100.

Moreover, while all the songs in 1989 achieved varying levels of success, the lead single, “Shake It Off” became a massive hit. It has also received a Diamond certification, for over 10 million units sold. The singles “Blank Space” and “Bad Blood (feat. Kendrick Lamar)” sold exceptionally well too, achieving 8x and 6x Platinum certifications, selling over eight and six million units respectively. Altogether, the smash successes of the tracks on her fifth album made 1989 a worldwide phenomenon. However, it was her determination to excel in pop that kept the singer and songwriter on the lips of many. Indeed, Taylor Swift is still churning out record-breaking albums today, but it’ll take a while before anything tops 1989… at least commercially.

What Is Miley Cyrus’ Best-Selling Album?

Oftentimes, when artists reinvent themselves, there’s a slow buildup. Miley Cyrus followed a similar route but, in a shocking turn of events, became a fully-fledged controversy stirrer in 2013. After adopting a more mature image by her third album, Can’t Be Tamed, it was her fourth album, Bangerz, that shattered any ties to her teen-pop roots. With multiple albums under her belt, Miley Cyrus is one of the most recognizable musicians of her generation, but none of her projects have matched the commercial success of Bangerz

The lead-up to Cyrus’ fourth album was a defining moment in pop culture. After some time off to focus on acting, she quickly returned to music and signed with RCA Records. While her previous albums were predominantly pop, Miley Cyrus began to lean into R&B territory. It was this genre merger that resulted in Bangerz. Following two polarizing music videos and a raunchy MTV Video Music Awards performance, interest in the album was at an all-time high. It’s no wonder why Bangerz is the best-selling album in her repertoire.

Bangerz: A Miley Cyrus Event

Miley Cyrus was no stranger to releasing successful albums by the time Bangerz was released. Whether through her teen pop persona, Hannah Montana, or as herself, she was already a commercial titan. However, Bangerz ushered in an even greater success for her. The album achieved first-week sales of 270,000 copies, which was an impressive feat.

Since then, the album has sold over three million units in the U.S. This has led to a 3x Platinum certification by the RIAA. However, it’s important to note that this certification happened as far back as June 2018. Furthermore, the album was a moderate success in the U.K., where it’s been certified Gold for unit sales of over 100,000. Likewise, it’s most likely that the album has achieved higher sales, as its last certification date was in December 2013. This means that, in just two and a half months of its release in the UK, Bangerz sold over 100,000 copies.

Bangerz also performed very well in Norway, selling 80,000 copies and achieving a 4x Platinum. It has earned 2x and 3x Platinum certifications in Canada and Brazil, for sales of over 160,000 and 120,000 units, respectively. Moreover, in Australia, Denmark, Poland, and Sweden, Bangerz accumulated Platinum certifications. The respective units sold in these countries are: 70,000, 20,000, 20,000, and 40,000. In summary, of all her albums, this one awarded Miley Cyrus the most certifications around the globe.

A Controversial Pivot

While Miley Cyrus had already begun to adopt a sexier, more mature image, Bangerz took things even further, becoming one of the most discussed albums of 2013. With the release of the LP’s lead single, “We Can’t Stop,” the former teen idol effectively shed her former skin. Particularly, the track’s music video depicted a highly provocative side to Cyrus. The video took place at a house party, where Cyrus twerked with friends and behaved rather suggestively. Unsurprisingly, the polarizing video has almost raked up a billion views on YouTube.

At the 2013 VMAs, Miley Cyrus became one of the most searched names on Google. Her raunchy and suggestive dancing and behavior, which included twerking on Robin Thicke, became media gold. Furthermore, following the release of the music video for “Wrecking Ball,” which depicted a naked Miley Cyrus, her good-girl image was completely gone. In essence, a newer, more adult pop star had replaced the former teen sensation.

Overall, Bangerz was a pop-R&B hybrid that successfully reinvented Cyrus’ artistry. The album was primarily produced by Mike Will Made It and debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart. The music was also met with positive reviews, who praised the singer’s more evolved sound. However, the controversies around Bangerz made it one of the most memorable albums of the 2010s and the best-selling album in Miley Cyrus’s career.

What Is SZA’s Best-Selling Album?

So far, SZA only has two full-length studio albums to her name. However, they have both been critical and commercial successes, earning her much-deserved accolades. Over a decade into her career, she is now widely recognized as a luminary in the realm of contemporary R&B. Additionally, she has broken and set new records in the industry, especially within the last year.

While Ctrl (2017), her debut album, was a huge success, it was SOS that catapulted her into a new echelon. Evidently, the singer is part of the crop of acts known as album artists, and she is certainly very skilled at putting together musical bodies of work. Nevertheless, the success of SOS has been astounding, and it only continues to rise. It’s no surprise that it earned SZA an outstanding nine nominations at the 2024 Grammys

SOS: A Worldwide Event

SOS was released on December 9, 2023, which was less than a year ago. Surprisingly, it’s already surpassed Ctrl’s overall sales and is now SZA’s best-selling album worldwide, moving over 3 million units alone in the United States. Considering the immense impact SOS has had since its release, this makes sense. However, an album selling over three million units in the US, in less than a year, is no ordinary feat. While Ctrl is also certified 3x Platinum in the US, it took the album about five years to achieve that status.

They are also evenly matched in Australia and the United Kingdom in album sales, moving 70,000 and 100,000 units, respectively. However, SOS obliterates Ctrl in Brazil, Canada, and Denmark. So far, SOS has sold 80,000 units in Brazil, 240,000 units in Canada, and 20,000 units in Denmark. Additionally, it is certified Gold (20,000 units) in the Netherlands, whereas Ctrl is yet to have any certifications in that country. Finally, SOS has sold 30,000 units in New Zealand and is currently 2x Platinum in the country. Certainly, Ctrl is in no way a commercial failure. Altogether, SOS has had a truly insane run this year. Nevertheless, both albums are individually brilliant, and SZA has earned her wins.

A Record-Breaking R&B Masterpiece

With two stellar albums in her catalog, SZA has become an untouchable force in the evolving world of R&B. Before SOS was finally released, it was also highly anticipated, as fans had begged and clamored for a new body of work. In fact, the album’s lead single, “Good Days,” was released on December 25, 2020, and peaked at number 9 on the Hot 100 chart. It was her first solo song to chart within the top 10 of the Hot 100. Afterward, it was almost exactly a year later that SZA dropped the second single, “I Hate U.” At the end of the music video for “Good Days,” she teased “Shirt,” the third single that didn’t drop until October 2022.

Finally, almost two years after its lead single dropped, SOS was released. It was an immediate hit, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Subsequently, it stayed in that position for 10 non-consecutive weeks. This made it the first R&B album to spend its first seven weeks at number one since Whitney Houston’s 1987 eponymous album.

Additionally, it broke the record for the largest streaming week for an R&B album in the US. Following the album’s release, SZA dropped videos for “Nobody Gets Me,” and the Grammy-nominated hits, “Kill Bill,” and “Snooze.” Impressively, all six singles managed to peak within the top 20 on the Hot 100 chart. As a matter of fact, only “Shirt” failed to break into the top 10, peaking at number 11.

An R&B Titan Emerges

SOS is a follow-up album that has far exceeded expectations. Only featuring Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers, Travis Scott, and Ol’ Dirty Bastard, the 23-track album sees SZA bloom into an R&B heroine. It received Grammy nods in the Album of the Year and Best Progressive Album categories at the 2024 ceremony. In addition, it earned SZA seven more nominations for songs like “Kill Bill,” “Snooze,” and “Ghost in the Machine.” Overall, SOS is a monumental album, and will not be forgotten by either listeners or the artist anytime soon.

What Is Pitbull’s Best-Selling Album?

Since Pitbull emerged in the early 2000s, he has released twelve albums, with his latest project, Trackhouse in October 2023. His early exposure to an eclectic mix of musical genres laid the foundation for what would later become his distinctive sound. Subsequently, his breakthrough came with the 2009 smash hit single, “I Know You Want Me.” The chart-topping song contributed to establishing Pitbull as a global force. As a matter of fact, Pitbull was ranked by Billboard among the 50 Top Artists of the 2010s.

Admittedly, his domination can be said to have started in the late 2000s. However, he had an even more impressive commercial performance in the 2010s. After all, his best-selling albums were released within the decade. While Global Warming (2012) and Globalization (2014) sold impressive numbers, however, Planet Pit (2011) remains in the topmost position.

Read More: 15 Rappers With Stars On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

A Multi-Platinum Showpiece

Planet Pit is a monumental work in Pitbull’s discography, and the numbers display its impact. Since its release, the album has sold over 2 million units in the US, according to RIAA. Therefore, it is a 2x Platinum album, which ranks it above all other albums Pitbull has released. Certainly, each of these albums sees Pitbull tapping into his immense well of talent. However, Planet Pit is the rapper at his most commercially appealing. While Global Warming achieved similar numbers, Planet Pit slightly edges it out, claiming that top spot. Despite never reaching the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 Chart, Planet Pit was a very successful album.

The Wonderful World Of Planet Pit

Released on June 17, 2011, Planet Pit is Pitbull’s sixth studio album. It stands as a pivotal chapter in his musical journey, marking a dynamic convergence of genres and cultures. In fact, the title itself serves as a metaphor for a global soundscape where diverse musical influences conjoin under Pitbull’s command. Over the years, Pitbull has come to be known for his genre-blending albums. Likewise, throughout Planet Pit, he showcased his adeptness at genre fusion. He seamlessly blended Hip Hop, dance-pop, and Latin rhythms. As a result, an electrifying collection of tracks that transcended traditional genre boundaries was created. This, in turn, created an immersive experience that resonated with a broad audience. With this in mind, it’s not very surprising that Planet Pit performed as well as it did commercially. It was an album that was made to take Pitbull’s sound around the world, and it did exactly that.

Planet Pit: A Study In Collaboration

One of the defining features of Planet Pit is its roster of guest features. Without a doubt, the album would not be the same without these appearances complementing Pitbull’s verses. These successful collaborations subsequently resulted in a number of hit singles. Evidently, these singles contributed to the eventual success of the album as a whole.

“Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor)” feat. T-Pain was the lead single from Planet Pit. The high-octane dance-pop anthem set the tone for the album’s infectious energy and enjoyed moderate commercial success. However, the single that followed it became a global sensation and earned the rapper his first Hot 100 chart-topper. “Give Me Everything,” feat. Ne-Yo, Afrojack, and Nayer, emphatically underscored Pitbull’s crossover appeal. Additionally, it was one of the biggest songs of 2011. In fact, it appeared at #5 on Billboard Hot 100’s year-end chart.

What Is Beyoncé’s Best-Selling Album?

First things first, Beyoncé is an album artist and always has been. Ever since her smash debut, Dangerously In Love, she’s been molding together seamless bodies of work. Fast forward to her acclaimed album Renaissance, and her musical evolution is currently at its apex. However, as she has since found comfortability in experimentation, there’s no telling what kind of albums Beyoncé has in store for us next.

Notably, all of Beyoncé’s albums have achieved great commercial success, albeit to varying degrees. Additionally, Beyoncé is the first solo artist to debut atop the Billboard 200 chart with each of her seven studio albums. However, since her surprise self-titled drop in 2013, Queen Bey has refrained from following standard rollout procedures. Nonetheless, back in the day, the promotion for a Beyoncé album was enormous. This all kicked off with Dangerously In Love in 2003. In fact, of all the long-form projects in her catalog, she has still yet to surpass the commercial triumph of her debut.

Dangerously In Love: A Commercial Juggernaut

According to the RIAA, Dangerously In Love has sold an impressive six million copies in the U.S. with a 6x platinum certification. Worldwide, the album has sold over 11 million copies, although this figure has yet to be altered since 2011. Nonetheless, of all her seven solo projects, her debut is still her best-selling.

The first of her many lauded albums, Beyoncé came out swinging with Dangerously In Love. The project became a huge commercial success, debuting atop the Billboard 200 chart. Beyoncé also topped the UK Albums chart, as well as the Canadian Albums chart. However, beyond the chart-topping, she also garnered numerous accolades and certifications, including a whopping five Grammys in one night.

Creating A Timeless Debut

After a series of delays, especially to capitalize on the success of Kelly Rowland and Nelly’s hit, “Dilemma,” the rollout for Beyoncé’s first album was finally here. Titled Dangerously in Love, the project was laced with both emotionally driven ballads, as well as sultry, dance-pop songs. The first single released was the timeless classic, “Crazy in Love,” which featured Jay-Z. With that monstrous hit, Beyoncé became a certified solo star!

“Crazy in Love” dominated the charts worldwide, building an even greater anticipation for her solo debut album. Subsequently, Dangerously In Love was released on June 23, 2003. Furthermore, the second single, “Baby Boy,” which featured Sean Paul, enjoyed very similar success to “Crazy in Love,” and topped multiple charts. Overall, with her first two singles, Beyoncé had stretched out her fame past Destiny’s Child and kicked off a series of storytelling albums.

A Solo Star Is Born

Beyoncé’s star power has been evident since childhood. However, by the late 90s, she rose to great fame as the lead singer of Destiny’s Child, one of the most famous girl groups in music history. With the final lineup of Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams, the group achieved superstardom. Nonetheless, plans for Beyoncé to venture into solo territory kicked off during the 2000s decade.

Anticipation for Beyoncé’s solo career continued to rise as the decade began. Interestingly enough, the three members of Destiny’s Child were given the solo treatment. However, Williams and Rowland released their debut albums before Beyoncé. While both acts enjoyed moderate success, Beyoncé ventured into film, appearing in Austin Powers In Goldmember. Furthermore, during this time, she released her debut single, “Work It Out” as part of the movie’s soundtrack.

On Dangerously in Love, Beyoncé was awarded a lot more creative liberties. She also worked with a number of producers, including Scott Storch, The Neptunes, Kanye West, and Missy Elliott, among others. Additionally, the artists she featured on the project greatly rejuvenated the tracks they were on. These include Missy Elliott, Big Boi, Luther Vandross, Sleepy Brown, as well as the aforementioned Sean Paul and Jay-Z.
