Tinashe Announced Her Second ‘BB/ANG3L’ EP, ‘Quantum Baby,’ Is ‘Coming Soon’

Last year, Tinashe garnered positive reviews with her September EP, BB/ANG3L, as she joined the wave of US artists reviving the UK garage and drum-and-bass styles. Supported by an immersive video project, The BB/ANG3L Experience, a Tiny Desk Concert, and a co-headlining tour with Shygirl (which was unfortunately canceled for medical reasons), BB/ANG3L debuted a thrilling new direction for Tinashe, whose penchant for blending pop and R&B found its most effective outlet yet in the dance music revival.

It looks like she’ll continue going in that direction as today, she announced BB/ANG3L PT. 2 — Quantum Baby is coming soon, sharing a pre-save link with a unique, Mad Max-ish trailer. In the video, a sports car tricked out to look like a real war machine is chased through the desert by drones, evoking a futuristic, somewhat dystopian world for the new project — which is right in line with much of the world-building Tinashe has done around her music since going independent some years ago. (Maybe she’s been playing the hell out of Cyberpunk 2077 and its anti-corporate ethos really resonated with her after her misadventures in the major label system.)

BB/ANG3L is “coming soon,” which means a release date will likely be announced shortly.

Tinashe Shows Off Her Seamless Moves And Stamina In Her New Immersive Visual, ‘The BB/ANG3L Experience’

Tinashe unveiled her new twenty-minute immersive video project, The BB/ANG3L Experience. Following her recent tour of the East Coast for her album, BB/ANG3L, the visual opens with the definition of “stamina.”

Tinashe then shows off seamless choreography across several different songs, including “Treason” and “Talk To Me Nice.” She served as a creative director on the visual, and Mike Ho was the director. Finally, choreographer Shay Latukolan helped the team pull the pieces and moves together.

“This was a piece of art that I’ve been wanting to create for a very long time,” Tinashe shared in a statement. “The BB/ANG3L Experience is an immersive visual, a live experience, a piece of art that documents the athleticism and creative depths I am constantly striving to deliver in my art whether it’s live or on film. Working alongside Shay Latukolan was amazing, we were really able to tell the story of my project BB/ANG3L through movement.”

“Filming it all with the mindset of delivering the energy of a one-shot one-take visual experience was both challenging and rewarding,” she added. “From curating the lighting, the specific camera movements with the choreography, to the energy it took for us to dance through each song as a whole over and over again perfectly and all in one day, it is an achievement I am very proud of. I hope you all enjoy watching it as much I loved creating it for you.”

Tinashe’s ‘BB/ANG3L’ Tracklist Keeps It Short And Sweet

Tinashe’s next project is short and sweet. It’s called BB/ANG3L, and it’s due on September 8 with distribution through Nice Life Recording Company. The seven-song EP will feature the previously released songs “Talk To Me” and “Needs” and will be supported via Tinashe’s upcoming joint tour with “Heaven” collaborator Shygirl. Tinashe shared the cover art, release date, and tracklist on social media earlier today.

BB/ANG3L is the 30-year-old singer’s sixth album and third project since leaving RCA in 2019. In a June interview with Rolling Stone Korea, Tinashe said of the upcoming project, “With this new music, I did a lot of genre-combining, and he really brought an electronic side that I loved in the production. Then I balanced that with a lot of R&B melodies and vocals. I hope everyone really likes it.” She later previewed the music at a party in Los Angeles, and since then, has been full steam ahead on the album’s promotion, cryptically tweeting lyrics.

Tinashe Breaks Down Her ‘Needs’ On Her New Single

Known to craft her art on her own terms, Tinashe is laying down the law with her new single. Tonight (August 18), Tinashe is kicking off a new music project of hers with “Needs.”

As the song’s title suggests, Tinashe makes her needs known on the track, delivering suggestive yet sexy lyrics over a pulsating beat.

“Don’t be a tease / Grab them keys / Afterparty in between the sheets / Top floor shawty in a penthouse suite / I make you say, ‘Please’ / Please / I’m not easy, but I’m feenin’ / I’m just human, we all got needs,” she sings on the song’s chorus.

In the song’s accompanying video, Tinashe and her crew dance their way through an empty supermarket. In one spicy scene, Tinashe is seen naked, covered by cold-cut meats.

The track comes from her upcoming album, BB/ANG3L, which she will release via producer Ricky Reed’s Nice Life Recordings.

“For BB/ANG3L I was very inspired by the concept of identity,” said Tinashe in a statement. “Exploring both how I self-identify and also challenging the perceptions of others. I believe how we identify in this world is ultimately our own personal choice; and I’ve enjoyed stripping back layers of aesthetic fluff, smoke, and mirrors, and white noise to get down to the core of myself. Who we are at a core level, when we are alone – raw and unfiltered, is what I want this album to reflect.”
